Can we please just drop this? Its been made apparent that MLG had no intention of hosting another starcraft tournament and as far as we're concerned, MLG opted to remove starcraft from their lineup of games for the foreseeable future.

That said, I am stoked for the Red Bull lan, they always end up holding awesome games.

MLG literally said the opposite in this thread. You might have missed or ignored it.

just looked through the pages to find the post you were alluding to.

Regardless, what am I, and other starcraft fans suppose to expect without an official press release about their stance on starcraft? Last I checked it was up to the community to play investigator based on messages sent over twitter and any snide remarks that adam or other MLG employees would make on TL.

so not making an official statement means that dropping sc2 for one tournament = dropping sc2 forever from their circuit. gotcha.

If Blizzard couldn't give a fuck less about the NA scene, the makers of the game... then in no way, shape or form can Red Bull receive criticism for not trying to do what the makers of SC 2 should be concerned with... That's simply not their responsibility. If Red Bull joined forces with Blizzard, they would end up with a lower prize pool. To be a tier 1 tournament (give the most WCS points), you only have to have a prize pool of "x." There is absolutely no incentive to make the prize pool any bigger, whether the profit allows for it or not.

Nothing Blizzard is doing provides a positive outlook for foreigner players. Next WCS challenger season for NA, you will probably have to be on the A team of CJ Entus to have a shot... And the prize pool will be fixed because there is no competition. Anti compete rules left and right.

The more money Red Bull throws at tournaments with "only 8 players," the worse it makes Blizzard look. If anything, that's always a plus. Still, I don't even want them to help the NA scene because it would be too much of a slap in the face/pathetic to think you have to rely on some big companies like Red Bull instead of Blizzard... I mean, that's like a stranger playing your dad because your dad is MIA. Personally, I'd be bitter if that's really what it would take.

I am pretty sure they are going to invite Jeadong. The possibility of a Jaedong - Bomber rematch would be likely and JD could finally claim his first notable tournament win.

With all due respect and sincere support (great players, great them moneyzzzz) in my opinion it wouldn't be that notable, at least for JD in relation to his string of 2nds (2 DHs, AM S2, Global S2).

On the side note, making this tournament a bit more "Dreamhacky" could actually be very beneficial. I'm talking mainly about making it Open format, which would be a nice alternative for American players. Just toying with the idea

Its not killing NA scene but it isn't helping much either, especially given that it seems to be only an 8 man tournament. And unless 1 or 2 players from the NA scene somehow manage to qualify it isn't going to be giving the NA scene much exposure either.

The best thing that could happen to this is if the 4 players who qualify are both really good and fan favorites. Looking at you, HerO.

I think really good is a given, though its something that depends on the qualifier format. Fan favorites is harder though, I guess it would be sick good for them if JD and Polt qualify, at least Polt seems way more popular now then HerO.

That is true. But keep in mind that MLG barely contributed to the NA scene in terms of prize money. In 2012 and 2013 MLG has (according to Liquipedia) paid $11.100 to NA players in terms of prize pool earnings. $9.100 to HuK alone and $1.000 each to Killer and Sasquatch. With a total prize pool of $392.700 during 2012 and 2013 this means that NA players have taken home just shy of 3% of the total prize pool. In comparison Europeans have claimed $27.250, almost 7% of the total prize pool.

In terms of building the NA scene we need more events like Shoutcraft America where Koreans and Europeans are prohibited. The NA scene should not be built by major and premier tournaments, simply because next to no Americans can compete at that level.

EDIT:
Obviously i am not trying to bash MLG here, as i know that a lot of teams have enjoyed a great deal of exposure from MLG, namely teams like EG and Quantic gaming.

JD, Polt, HerO, Taeja. I'd like that.

Disagree with "way" more. Just more noticable with HerO being absent from big tournaments since IEM

Even there is a limited chance to make it to the final eight, more events with more things to fight over is always good for the NA scene. If we have learned anything from Dota 2, it is that the more people have to fight over, the more they play. Redbull could hold an online only qualifier tournament with a $5000 prize pool at the end just to see who qualifies and give everyone trying a little extra push and that would do as much good as have a 32 player event.

Its not about providing the NA scene with enough money through prize pools, its about having something to fight for at all times. If a player doesn’t qualify for WCS, it is easy to keep practicing and keep your head in the game if there is another qualifier or event in a couple of weeks. Rather than looking for huge events that have 64 players, it should be 64 smaller events that keep players fighting all the time, online or otherwise.

Also please stop with the redbull being the reason mlg dropped sc2.Mlg dropped sc2 because it was in conflict with blizzard and also because they picked up dota2,Sc2 will not be neither at fullsail nor at the next mlg in Orlando or god knows where it will be.There were enough threads about this.Redbull hosting this tournament had nothing to do with mlg decision.Although it seems a bit stupid that 2 major tournaments could not find a free date all year round so that they do not collide.

This event is the reasons MLG did not run SC2 that weekend. MLG Adam said it directly several times, including to me. It is fact. They schedule these venues in advance and you can’t just “switch the dates”. Don't tell people to stop saying things that are true.

No he didn't tell you anything. You have to provide a source for that. The only thing adam said on reddit was that somethings happened behind the scenes we do not know about. And mlg didn't drop sc2 just for fullsail where it collided with redbull but also for the next big event in Columbus where there is no redbull conflict.
And mlg adam didnt tell you personally anything. You are either lying or simply psychotic.Provide evidence that mlg adam said anything directly to you in the regards of sc2 being dropped because of a redbull conflict conflict and I willl personally do a video singing Lady Gaga-Alejandro and post it on youtube and tl.

Wow, you are incredibly angry, incredibly wrong, and probably incredibly embarrassed by now. Give it a rest, man. MLG's reasons make sense, and hopefully Red Bull will have four other great players to catch our attention. Red Bull's been pretty good so far. Let's see what the qualifiers will bring.

Hopefully one of them is Jaedong.
