Or MLG heard that Red Bull was having a tournament that weekend and decided not to compete.
I'm not stupid, a marauder just shot my brain.

all this drama for nothing. It's hilarious, isn't it?

Yes. Blizzard gave it to them because they asked first.

The plot thickens!

Indeed, the Plott thickens. This explains day9's tweet better now. Both him and sunny know the real reason but both don't want to announce red bull's tourney before an official announcement. Call off the funeral folks. A heartbeat was found and sc2 lives!

Looks like Destiny is smater than DJ Wheat, Idra, and Incontrol who trashed on him on SOTG a while back for saying sc2 is dying. They should of respected his opinion, because he clearly explained how blizzard was killing sc2 yet most of the community flamed him for no reason.

It's so much more worthwhile to run a stream of LoL than sc2 for two reasons 1. LoL has 10x the viewers 2. Majority of the LoL viewers are either stupid or kids and don't know what adblock is so most of those viewers actually are generating revenue. In sc2 you could have 10k viewers but 9 900 of them are using adblock so you're fucked anyway. This same thing applies to dota2 as well though, they may get a lot of viewers but they all use adblock, but they still get sponsor support similar to sc2 and slightly more ad revenue. SC2 has survived because of sponsor support for the most part and what little ad revenue can be generated. It's time to realize we got fucked by adblock.

I think it's worthwhile to note that this website and original community was dedicated to bw during a time when there was NOTHING except wcg for foreigners to look forward to, there was NO incentive to be a pro player unless you were one of the top koreans. The only thing keeping people here was the game itself, not how many viewers it got or how much money the pro players made. So everytime you get the sc2 is dieing feeling and you start to freak out in threads like this, it's useful to realize it's impossible for sc2 to fall as low as bw was. Everything will be fine. Sundance still needs to die though.

Sigh, and where did you get all this data? Let me guess, nowhere.
Truth is, a major LoL event gets at worse 2x Sc2 viewers, and that's more because the major sc2 event is having a bad day than the other way around, and usually it gets some 1,3x (90-100k vs 120-140k) these are the usual numbers, while on very good Sc2 days (and yes, they do NOT happen every month, especially not in summer) we get this.
+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

and i'm not even gonna comment the 99% adblock elitist nonsense, you're saying that you are using an adblock, and that "Sc2 viewer is hip and smart, LoL viewer is retarded",which also ignores the fact that even a ton of IT students/workers don't use adblock for a reason....
perhaps you should stop adblocking sc2 pages if you're worried about that. Probably Sc2 has a somewhat bigger adblock % on the population, but that's surely not a factor on the viability of a tournament.

Please, if you gotta cry about the end of the world(Sc2), use numbers that are less likely to make people facepalm, thanks.

Sigh, standard ESL not understanding exaggeration. All of my points were correct and because I don't feel like finding the actual numbers and chose to use CLEARLY exaggerated ones doesn't take away from any of the points. LoL DOES have more viewers, sc2 viewers DO use adblock more than LoL viewers. Try and argue with either point, it's not possible. And next time before saying an idiotic comment like "Please, if you gotta cry about the end of the world(Sc2), use numbers that are less likely to make people facepalm, thanks." try reading my entire post where I said "So everytime you get the sc2 is dieing feeling and you start to freak out in threads like this, it's useful to realize it's impossible for sc2 to fall as low as bw was. Everything will be fine."

You need to be far less aggressive in your attacks against other forumgoers if you are going to be this stupid.

So you're saying that in order to state the obvious, that LoL does have more viewers, and what is somewhat arguable although a clearly believable thing in "LoL has less adblock" (due to the demographics being slightly different/older?), you're warranted to use numbers that are wrong by an order of magnitude?
I'm clearly going to call you out on that.

And about the "we cannot fall as low as bw anyways, all will be fine?"
Well if you look at the worst doomsayers we clearly could, and i'm not saying that i believe that(besides reliving Bw's life on a more modern, bigger scale wouldn't that be that big of a failure)... but you're supporting your point how exactly?

How can you possibly talk about tournament financial stuff? Did you even read TotalBiscuits report about ShoutCraft's financial breakdown for istance (citing one of the few organizers that posts a breakdown) before writing that thing?

There are no "English Second Language" problems here, your post is such a mass of baseless guess and absurd numbers that i felt the need to debunk it, and thanks for calling me stupid.

Whoops, you posted that a few minutes to late. Now you just look dumb and like you didn't read the thread. This has nothing to do with Blizzard and SC2 is fine. And Destiny is still wrong. Redbull will be running an event that weekend and I bet it will be just as much fun as the one that MLG is putting on.

Also, it was ITG, not SOTG. Get your facts straight.

Someone simply isn't paying attention. MLG lost the time slot to Red Bull it appears. Not some ridiculous SC2 is dying garbage. And no I'm sorry, no one should respect that buffoon. He might play off that he has book smarts, but in common sense and street smarts he sorely lacks.
PartinG fanboy to the max, Rain/Squirtle/Dear/Scarlett/Bbyong are cool too. I don't always watch Dota2 but when I do I have no clue what's going on. GOGO POWER RANGERS

There are many more nuances to this MLG/RB story and perhaps now the real reporters in the scene can dig deeper. #SSNN

What I don't get is how this is a problem, but DreamHack Winter/WCG being the same weekend is not

WCG doesnt need to get a license because no one watches it.

They are also no where near in the same time zone, so there is little overlap. I think Blizzard is doing region control to stop events from eating away at eachother.

At least we know why now. SC2 isn't unwanted, its that two groups wanted it. Personally, I like Redbull a little more than MLG, with their studio feel. I am betting they will do some open bracket event or qualifers of some form. That would be the most fun.

Only question i still have, why did MLG announce so early that there wasn't sc2 at Columbus instead of laying low and wait for a Redbull announcement? INcontrol thought it was for damage control, but he didn't know about the Redbull thingy apparently...
Then why did they do that?

So this is just another case of "I don't care about PR" from Sundance?
I can't imagine this information (about Redbull) being secret. Just announce that you're unable to host SC2 because of this and everything is clear. Oh well, maybe there is more to it.
There is, didn't think of this:
Scott Smith ‏@SirScoots 9 Aug
@djtyrant @MLG If they say that, they kind of leak news of another unannounced event and that is not for them to do?
I Protoss winner, could it be?

They don't want people to book flights ahead of time and then cancel them, they want to let people know.

And instead of being excited about a new event, another drama thread has been posted being upset at Blizzard for not fixing the issue of Redbull and MLG running their events on the same day:
