There are requirements. For the roster team is highly competitive contracted players. For the non-contracted players, there is still a high level of skill and good manners expected. If you are interested in joining and are a masters or GM level player, then feel free to hang around in the chat channel and get to know the team as this will increase your chances of potentially joining.

There is alot that goes into it. You have to be very good at the game(top gm player) as well as very mannered. The starter players are those who are contracted and need to fulfill their end of the contract requirements. It isn't easy.

Quite interesting way you put together the team, good luck!
Thanks Yip! Good to hear from ya. We wont be releasing the sponsor as its a private sponsor that only the players and managers know. Hope to see you around bud!

man I remember chilling in the sMi channels back in bw, I learned so much from them yet I never really saw the team in sc2
glad to learn about the team coming back into view

Our gear is from alienware and razer. This is all I can say. Our sponsor would like to be private. We agreed to these terms set out by the sponsor. The players and managers know the sponsor and the contracts further dismay any concerns any of us had!

If our private investor/s wish to not be known, why should I inform everyone of who they are? As stated by Nano, the players will be equipped with gear by Razer and Alienware. Any further information would be like biting the hand that feeds you...
I would also like to make it clear that the players that left us before either went inactive and stopped playing the game competitively or moved on to better opportunities that we couldn't offer. It was all on good terms. We've never promised any of our players anything and not followed through with it.

there was no mention of razer or alienware anywhere in the OP. this is relevant information that you neglected to mention that would further legitimize your team.

Okay, I apologize for not mentioning that earlier. I didn't think it relevant considering we are not officially sponsored by either organization. I have added a paragraph to the OP under the player roster stating this, "The players will be equipped with gear from Razer and Alienware as long as they are with us. We however are not "sponsored" by either company. We do have some behind the scenes investments coming in that I cannot discuss as the investor/s would like to remain anonymous. However, myself and the rest of the management team will do whatever we need to do to support our players even if it has to come out of our own pockets."
I hope this clears the air and we can move on from this discussion now. We look forward to you hopefully supporting the team in our endeavor to make a name for ourselves in the SC2 scene.

Ok seriously, I think you are taking this way too far. First off, they can announce their team without having to divulge every personal detail behind it. Why would you attack them for that? Since when do you need to know how a team operates to follow or enjoy them? They are not saying they can compete with A class teams, they are simply announcing the reformation of team smi. If you were involved with SC/BW you would of known who they were, instead of attacking them.
Lastly, are you seriously upset they didnt announce they use razer mice and alienware computers? You need a team to announce what computer their players play on in order for you to follow them? I think you are nitpicking to the absolute extreme, and your posts are just getting silly now.

I'm not attacking anyone, I am simply inquiring about what the community is being asked to support. We all remember Eclypsia and the damage they caused to the scene. If the players are being provided with gear, that is a gesture that I support, however no such mention of that fact was even made until we had to dig it up.

The big difference was that eclypsia was attempting to compete at the highest level, with top players who were previously salaried on teams before joining. Smi is simply announcing they made a team, and that they have a means to pay their currently not very known players. Players that I assume have not been paid in the past to play.
Whatever happened to people becoming friends, and forming a team with the notion of making it someday down the line? Why does every team have to announce sponsors and gear just to get started? If the players are happy, and they all agree with what smi is providing, then I don't feel the need for them to inform you or anyone outside the team of its inner workings.
Either watch them play, or don't.

You're taking this too far sir. Nobody is saying that they can't announce their team. The issue was, why should we follow a team without any security. As for the Alienware/Razer statement, I'm pretty sure that they are not sponsored by those organizations, thus they don't need to provide their information. I have a feeling that Terranist thought that they had a deal with them? Either way, having someone buy your team computers and peripherals doesn't legitimize anything in the slightest. They have systems to play on, which is great! but that's the most basic requirement needed to play a computer game.
Like I said, I'm not trying to bash sMi or anything. I hope all teams have their own level of success and contribute to eSports in their own way. I just don't see any reason to look at them any differently now than I did before. They now have a private sponsor who can do whatever he wants. There is no "real" sense of security that viewers can look at as fans. We don't have any outside reason to look at sMi and say "I hope this team succeeds over other teams", aside from supporting the individual players.
I look at this team introduction and I don't see anything but a few players who are on an amateur team trying to go pro. Kind of defeats the purpose of the post. The website also looks very amateur. Kind of like a "for fun" team website.
Any eSports sponsor who wants to keep hidden is shady anyways. I can't see any reason to look at this in a positive way.
Regardless, hope this venture is a beneficiary to eSports.

I only raise the question because of the history of players leaving and no clear financial support is a big red flag if they want lasting support of some fans, especially when the players above are represented as having contracts or gear benefits now. If they want that information to remain private, that's totally fine too.
