Quite frankly, that's the view of a tremendously large number of companies and institutions in the US. I don't like it either, but there's no pizza chain that won't make most of its employees work part time to avoid healthcare coverage. Heck, you can't go to college in the United States if you want to punish an institution for not providing healthcare - most colleges are dependent on part-time lecturers that are paid crap and get no benefits.
Papa John's is considering supporting e-sports. That's good enough for me. It's not like any other pizza company is going to be better, except perhaps a local independent.
And while I hadn't ordered a delivered pizza in years - my Papa Johns pepperoni-mushroom-olive pizza was excellent.
Edit: As for the 14c for healthcare thing - heck, sure the CEO is an idiot. But he's a useful idiot. That statement totally backfired and pointed out to everyone how CHEAP it is for these companies to provide healthcare for their employees if they wanted to.
I am in the belief that all evil men are capable of doing some good and must be praised for their rare acts of esports kindness in the hope they they will, at some point, begin to see what joy being giving brings to them.
I don't believe in chastizing someone for all eternity for something he said a year or more ago.
He's still a dick--but it is possible for douchebags to do nice things.
And the CEO also stated he was wrong and raised his employee's hours so they would qualify for the healthcare he was previously against. That part doesn't make it into the thread though, because you can't be "internet outraged" about that.
Source? All I find from about 6 months ago is that he expects they are going to cut hours, albeit profits being up 25%....
i don't think that is true. although it is typical of CEOs to throw out an apology and offer no solution *cough* sundance digiovanni.
"Tier 8 - iNcontroL and TLO will switch teams for a week and act as head coaches in an EG vs. Liquid off-race showmatch"
Haha this could become so awesome. They should definitely do some awesome wish TLO and Incontrol standing there and trash talking the other (their own) team before each game!

That particular trait is unique only to CEOs I agree.
So uh not really wanting to bump the fuck out of this thread, but did the cross game matches happen already?? I was kinda looking forward to those.. but have not seen anything about them. Any intel?

A lot of half off pizza?
I think the last I saw incontrol said something about scheduling issues. I could be wrong though

This stuff takes time and these sorts of deals don't happen over night. Just because a crap ton of pizza got sold does not mean that in two month unlimit Papa Johns money will come flowing into the scene.
Having bought quite a bit of pizza from Papa Johns, specifically for this challenge, I would be sad if nothing came of it and especially upset if we never got the showmatch we were promised. Reaching that particular tier was a big reason why I was so enthusiastic about supporting this. I feel like the community at least deserves an explanation or a response regarding the match, even if all it is an acknowledgment that the teams still owe the community the match and that there have been scheduling issues.

there was already a response on Reddit by Catz, don t remember what he said, but just wait plea se
Honestly, I hope this thing proved to papa johns it is worth while to sponsor a team or even an event. Like if they decided to sponsor root gaming, if a root player wins WCS or something, "half off pizza using code ROOT4Root." That would be pretty awesome.
did anyone ever get outraged by eSpoRTs being supported by papa johns? iirc there was some political stuff but i dont remember if anyone made a big deal about it

I would rather they sponsored an entire tournament like WCS NA(Yes, WCS can get sponsors along with Blizzard, it is part of the master plan), since it helps everyone. The league gets more money coming in and that would work its way down to the teams through better support. Team sponsors are great, but money going directly to the leagues is what will keep the show running.

There was certainly some opposition to the concept of PapaJohns' sponsorship, but there was largely positive support.

tbh, I was happy with the half-off pizza. It was a good deal.
