Greetings,
I'm the developer responsible for the overlay being used for WCS Europe. The design is based off of the ReSkin design that was provided by Blizzard all bug fixing and modifications are my own.
With permission from my company I have provided the Interface as an OpenSource project on GitHub I only ask you treat her gently . Please read the Change Log for questions, and if you use a monitor aside from 1920x1080 with an aspect ratio of 16 : 9 there will be some visual problems and cutoffs as a result. Something to fix in the future.
Enjoy.

nice. can you integrate that gameheart zoom out somehow? im really missing it :/
|
Zoomout would be nice, but its a nice little overlay!
|
You can't do zoomout with the interface hooks that Blizzard provides. You have to hack it into a custom map to have zoomout.
|
Sick, thanks for sharing! I don't need it, but I know a lot of people are really grateful for this, and will use it a lot, plus it looks amazing.

Zoomout would be nice. I agree.

Some Screenshots would be nice ! Otherwise good job

Blizzard doesn't let you tweak a lot to the interface except changing pictures and the position of elements. You can't have a map score or add infos to the victory screen for example.
|
cool stuff, thanks for sharing too!

I have no idea why people like the gameheart zoom-out. It's such a bad feature for SC2. In SC2 units have long been clumped together and all the units in a 200/200 max army can already be seen in one single screen. It's not BW where a maxed army spread across 3 screens, so zoom-out may be good for BW. But certainlly not SC2, it makes the already smaller army look even more smaller. Default is fine.
|
The one thing keeping me from using this (or anything based on the reskin) is that you don't see queued units.
edit: fwiw, these do look much better than the reskin (size of leaderboards etc) so GJ :D (and thanks for sharing)

I really like the zoomout for when there is a multi-pronged attack to be able to see the entire battle happening.

Hi! I love the overlay! What about showing the Production at the bottom next to the Map instead of the Upper right

Actually I did include a map score feature. It's not able to detect or transfer any information game to game, but through some hotkeys you can show a nice little map score. Kind of like a fighting game.
Bo3 -> Shift+S Bo5-> Ctrl+Shift+5 Bo7-> Ctrl+Shift+7 (Add Score based on how many games won) Ctrl +1/2/3/4 and Shift+1/2/3/4

Glad you are liking it. showing queued units is something that bothers me a little to seeing 4 or 5 probes queued early game can be indicative of a fast nexus expansion, but you'd never know that with this UI (until you see no gateway at 10 or 13)
Not sure how to incorporate it nicely now though, trying to change the info panel a bit.

Upper Left you mean? ^^?
The next iteration 'should' include some design changes. I'd like to play with the info box a little bit and try and align the elements around the screen a little better. Everything feels really disjointed, but convincing people to look at it differently is always a challenge. To give a real world example hipmunk.com is one of the greatest examples of how rearranging elements in a page creates a monumentally better experience (in this case) of buying plane tickets. Cut down on cutter and show what matters. That is my goal .

good job man! we met last week at eps finals. keep up the good work!

First of all thank you very much for sharing this! I've just started work on a custom UI for a tourney we'll be holding this summer, and your version made for a great starting point. One thing I was wondering: Did you tweak the player name panel as well, or is the WCS overlay added during production?
Looking though the code, I found that the player stats panel basically consists of a SWF file for the background and several frames to display player info, races, stats, etc. I was just wondering if you ever got around to fiddle with this?
Thanks again!

Can we have a look at what the overlay looks like now? I could not see an example photo thanks,

More views for this awesome post really neat for all the casters out there

Hey man, I know how hard it is to work on this sort of thing especially when you have to dissect it apart to get anything out of it and change it. Love the changes! Its looking pretty sweet!

The WCS overlay is added during production.
When WCS runs they use an overlay tool that is included in our streaming platform. I currently have a new graphic to replace the current frame so I can 'hopefully' edit it in the future, but since we can do it already, fiddling with it isn't a high priority. (But still one I want to work on).

Will try and include some graphics in my next post. It's something I've been meaning to do, but just haven't gotten to it.

Great overlay thanks for sharing. I have one problem though. Since I installed the overlay I sometimes have a changed font when normally playing, not observing. Where it says the name if you select one unit or building in some games it is in the font of the overlay text while in most games it is the usual font. I have not been able to reproduce this, it just happens randomely. I also saw this on Nathanias stream and since he also uses this overlay I figured it must be caused by this. I hope this is the only way the observer overlay can interfere with the ingame one because this can get a greater issue quite fast if there are more things this can change. Just a headsup, propably a bug on Blizzards end.

Any complete documentation available?

Sounds like a bug, when playing the game should not be loading the UI anyway, just to be safe you could make sure it is not selected in the menu, see if it comes up? Even if it is, I doubt its something that will really affect most players anyway (well fingers crossed >.<)

Is there any full functionality documentation available - or not?

Sorry for the delay. I'm afraid I haven't created a complete documentation overview just yet. There's quite a great deal to cover, and I feel like sometimes I only have enough time to breathe Will try and get some more documentation in the pipeline.

I made a report directly to the blizzard developers who work with the User Interface so they are now aware of this issue. Intermittent problems are always the worst for developers, coming up with the exact circumstances are impossible without screenshots really. If you can duplicate it, post a screenshot and we'll see where this goes.

I like the WCS Overlay, you did a great job! What i love in gameheart (and want to see in WCS in the future) is the permanent worker count and upgrade . Don't know if you can do that.
|
I wanted to say thanks for your great, clean leaderpanel code in your "ESLWCSv1.7b.SC2Interface". I used it as a start for the leaderpanel before I reverted your code to display SC2's default leaderpanel again. It was a great time saver.
In case you want my reverted code, check out the next update of the gameheart observer interface (version 1.5). It will include an easy way to alter the space between the unit/upgrade icons, too.
I'm not sure if you remember who I am, but I gave you a lot of links about interface modifications over at sc2mapster when you started.
|
Hey Ahli Of course I remember you!
I was not aware you were also the one who developed Gameheart though . It's a pleasure.

On July 19 2013 21:38 Icicle wrote:Hey Ahli Of course I remember you! I was not aware you were also the one who developed Gameheart though . It's a pleasure. I'm not the original creator. Before the map was released I helped that project via answering questions (without knowing it was for gameheart). So, the map was done by RTSchutter. I joined later and made some fixes like the reactor production icons on the screen. The interface was coded by me, but he was the artistic director focusing on offsets, etc, until it was great. So, I'm not project lead, more like technical lead.
v.1.5 got a new leaderpanel look, too. But I've still a version with the recreation of the original leaderpanel. I should upload and post it somewhere for others to use as a base.

I've been trying to get this to work, but for some reason the ui never wants to change to this. Other custom interfaces work, the interface name shows up in the list, but the default ui shows regardless when I choose it.

Really really great work icicle ♥
Is there also a version with the names, minerals, supply and workercount on the bottom as used in the redbull training grounds, which is basically based of your interface if i am not mistaken.
best regards, iSHOKZ

Good job! I will try it out and see how it looks.

Thank you very much for the kind words iSHOKZ.
I have a prototype of a version similar to the redbull training grounds, but that has been in private development and not released to the wild. I don't think the redbull one is based on mine? Maybe partially if I understood Ahli in his other post correctly .

On August 08 2013 21:56 Icicle wrote:I don't think the redbull one is based on mine? Maybe partially if I understood Ahli in his other post correctly . ? The code for the leaderpanel in gameheart's UI was based on your code for your leaderpanel which was based on Blizzard's code for their leaderpanels. Basically, you took it, simplified it and then I fully understood how it works looking at your code. Then I copy+pasted your code into my interface, copy pasted Blizzard's frame implementations into the existing frames to revert them back to SC2's default looks and deleted frames I didn't require. Then I've edited everything again for my needs. So, in the end you gave me the structure skeleton to alter the leaderpanel.
Anyway, go and fix the bars in the unit info panel. ^^ Yesterday I saw it at Barcraft Münster on the hallucinated Phoenixes. The bar was very out of place and overlapping with the ranks+kills label. It would fit below the name, if I remember the layout correctly. That's the only thing I could possibly criticize. ESL just realized a wonderful event.
|
Okay now that makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up Ahli. You've mentioned it before but I wasn't aware the RedBull was yours.
The Unit Info Panel is now fixed! The new Blizzard Info Panel in the Streamlined/1v1Split has the elements lined out really nicely so I'm borrowing on that. (They also kept my Equipment/Command Panel changes :D).
I've got another new secret feature in the works that I hope I can make it go live by Season 3 WCS. It's both small and yet a major change at the same time. And no I am not removing the minerals/gas/supply to those worried
