Erm, why? How do you know? How do you possibly know that in 10 years time e-sports wont be so big you can EASILY be a pro gamer forever? We already have people like grubby and Whitera who have been pro gamers for a long time and they seem fine, Is their some magical force stopping them from competing as time goes on? Stop being so "old fashioned", you are half the reason e-sports isnt doing as well as it is. You support it yet say "you cant be a pro gamer forever" thus also condemning it at the same time.

I don't know about you guys but I would love for e-sports to be as big as football, rugby, tennis or any of the other "real sports". That will only happen if people want it to, so the very fans of it condemning it by saying that you can't get a career as a pro gamer aren't helping.

I will bet you any amount of money you like that Esports won't ever be anywhere near as big as football.

I'd love e-sports to be as big as football too.

But Stephano can't make 100 grand a year forever in e-sports. Athletes naturally start to underperform after some time. Also, in 10 years Blizzard will probably have forgotten SC2 e-sports on behalf of more recent games. Just

However, if he becomes a doctor he'll easily make more than 100 grand a year. So it's easy math. Hard, unstable career that doesn't depend solely on your own efforts vs comfortable living standard saving lives.

He isn't becoming a Doctor. The whole thing about him becoming a Doctor is so hilarious to me, as if you can just decide one day to become a Doctor.

He isn't going to learn to become a doctor. When will people get this out of their head? He said months ago he wasn't going to be a doctor.

Also I think you underestimate what it is. Being a doctor is most certainly not an comfortable living standard saving lives. It's more like 6 years of intense study followed by 5 years of cleaning up for all the other doctors before you are fully trained, then you have the joy of one of the most stressful jobs ever, with the people you are working to save dying every day.
But its ok because when you go home you have lots of money so you can relax in your nice big expensive house with your expensive household objects. That is until you get called out at half 3 in the morning to another dying patient.

Really, are you really going down that road?

40 years ago a 1mb harddisk was over the top, no graphics nada. DOS mode.
30 years ago you barely had the NES.. 8-bit graphics and like 10mb harddisks.
after that came 100mb harddisk, people thought that would be the limit, then came 1gb harddisk, they said the same, then came 100gb harddisk, once again they said the same. Now we're up to 5-10TB harddisks.

Same goes for graphics, 8-bit -> 16 bit -> 32 bit > first 3d games > more advanced 3d games > games were Niche and would never really be profitable. And look at games now, in like 15-20 years time, they evolved from pixellated 2d games into beautiful 3D environments.

Gaming and e-sports, or IT in its whole, have evolved /FASTER/ in this short amount of time than anything else EVER has.

So your 'assumptions', will come around and haunt you. I will be coming in to cash in on your entire wealth, once e-sports becomes bigger.

15 years ago, gaming was for nerds and awkward people. Nowadays you're the awkward/outsider when you dónt have a gameconsole. Hell little kids, even parents have at least a wii or xbox or something, when you don't - you're weird.

I really don't like the cocky/immature tone of your posts. You can deicde you want to go into university and follow a long edicuation towards becoming a doctor. Stephano is by no means limited or dumb, he's a progamer. He knows what dedication is and he's obviously extremely intelligent. If he has the money (which he has) and the ability to attend a proper university, yes he can become a doctor.

100 years ago Football wasn't even a thing
Oh wait you meant Football

No but seriously, "ever" is a really, really, long time. Who knows what people will be watching in 100, 200, 300 years? Even 30 years ago the technology didn't exist to do what we're doing today. If "E-sports" becomes a big thing, there was never a chance that it would happen overnight. There are a lot of parallels between esports and the early days of certain sports. Look at Golf, Golf pros in the early 1900s went through a lot of the same things that pro gamers are going through today.

He can become a doctor, yes. Though these days it's easier said than done. Once you have the money, which seems to be in order for Stephano, it's all down to how hard he really wants to do it. And what I've seen from Stephano trough the years (not that I know him that well) it seems that he might not be as hard working as many others. (whole discussion about how much he practices compared to others) He seems to really rely on his brains, and go the easier way. Even if he is a genious, he has to change his attitude and focus if he really wants to become a doctor tbh. I have a feeling he will comeback to SC2. It's quite normal these days, when you want to become something and then once you start your studies you figure out that you really didn't know what you got yourself into, and that it was not what you wanted to do after all, and then you do what you master (e-sports), since its easier way and you can still earn a lot of money with it. But hey, then this is Stephano, let's hope I'm wrong. Though would be cool to have him in SC2 for another year

Well... sad to hear this.. we will miss you. Good luck in life Stephano... but if any time you reconsider you decision, the sc2 community will welcome you back. You are a legend already.
! before you leave... please win WCS EU and then WCS2 finals. Would be nice if these will be won by a European, since it is held in Europe.

this is the truth. even stephano admitted that zerg had a big advantage in every matchup and that he did not even care who his opponent was because he did the same thing every game.

Stephano confirmed for exploiting imba then quitting when its balanced.

lol'd

Z was never OP in WoL, but you T/P-players can keep telling yourselves that if it helps you sleep at night. Also, HotS is not balanced atm; e.g., Z are UP, Widow Mines and Photon Overcharge need further examining etc.

Anyway, gl in future endeavors Stephano.

Yeah, that's why all the last finals were ZvZ and even the zerg players themselves admitted there were balance issues with zerg.

That is an outright lie, Z has been underperforming in hots in the highest tiers of play, that is a statistical truth.
Just checking liquidpedia right now, the past 4 tournaments only 1 z was in the finals.

What is a statistical truth??? Please stop spewing such nonsense.

That's because you live in a crazy make believe world where people can decide to become doctors whenever they like even though they spent their teenage years playing games and not getting the straight A's and life experience you need just to even have a chance of getting on the course (that is if you can also do well at interview and pass the entrance exam). Never mind the difficulty in completing the five years at Uni.

You also live in a crazy make believe world where playing computer games (something still enjoyed only by a minority even in it's more core demographic of 18-25 years old males nevermind outside that demographic) is going to overrtake actual physical sport, which is something so ingrained in human history and behavior one could argue it is and has always been the defining past time of our entire species (after drinking and having sex, maybe you think Esports will be more popular than alcohol too one day?).

So yes, hard drives doubling in size does in fact have absolutely fuck all to do with watching people playing computer games becoming more popular than football.

I certainly think he was good for the game, but his big money and big wins came when zerg was IMBA as all get out. The winnings will not carry him anymore, so good call on the timing.

this is the truth. even stephano admitted that zerg had a big advantage in every matchup and that he did not even care who his opponent was because he did the same thing every game.

Stephano confirmed for exploiting imba then quitting when its balanced.

some people got it right , well he still a good player , all the other zerg back there did worst that him

still if he was ''that good'' he would still win this year , let face it he win almost nothing now , and then he ''retire''

but im sure he could have become a good player if he praticed , but he never did , he started dominate in the IMBA zerg era
he was the best at making mass infestor and drone more that anyone else , he played the style nicely .

He is retiring from professional gaming. That doesn't mean if he could not play at all. Finnish protoss Welmu is also studing at university and still is now WCS Pr Ro16. I think he gonna play once in while in some online cups if he feels that he can win.
Fusilero: "I still can't believe he did that, like dude what the fuck there's fandom and then there's what he did like holy shit. I still see it when I close my eyes." <- reaction to the original drunk santa post which later caught on

The problem with an esport career is that it relies on playing games that could become obsolete in 5-10 years. Some can make the transition from one game to another, but I think that will change. I predict that years from now the skill level required to compete in some games will have elevated to the point where you can't simply transition from one game to another just like that. It's easy now because of the general youth of esports.
