I did not enjoy this episode as much as many others I have watched. The topic (discussion regarding the new maps) was a great idea, however it was very anticlimatic when Dayshi seemed to hardly had played them on ladder. Me myself is not a pro-gamer but have played around 100 ladder games already this season just to enjoy the new maps and have som fun. When Dayishi as a professional then hardly seemed to have played s single game on the new maps the discussion lacks depths. Babyknight was suffering a bit from the same problem.
Example: Artosis asked Babyknight what he thinks about Merry Go Round and how P will take a third. This was really interesting because me as a Terran player considers this map to på T-favoured and I wanted to hear a Protoss-opinion on how to play the map. Babyknight had only played two games on it. PvPs. Dayshi had vetoed it after playing three games. Not even knowing about the air-blocking-lasers. Well that discussion died out quickly.
Personally I feel if the topic for Meta episode is do discuss the new maps - then either pick players that have tested them - or as a player being on the show, please atleast try to play them a few times to bring some content to the show.
Also I feel as we got stuck on the maps a bit to long. I would had loved some discussion regarding GSL, Pro League.
Artosis, if you read this I want to thank your for a great show otherwise. You are a lovely host and your passion is incredible. Thanks.

Game balance and the downfall of Terran!? That's THE prime example of what meta used to be about.

I agree with your summation. It was not the best Meta. But, you can't expect a great show every time. :-)
I'd have loved to have comments on GSL and PL too.

I do not have blocked new maps on ladder(I play unranked, I quit certain MU on some maps(e.g. PvZ on Daedalus), so I don't care about mappool that much) though I am playing mainly old maps and overgrowth. You cannot blame these players to not play new maps on ladder when, as it looks, lot of people are banning new maps.

Indeed. I really liked Snute's response in vetoing the old maps and just putting his focus into the new maps.

It was a boring episode indeed. I think Meta was a lot more fun when Artosis played the game actively, and would ask players into certain strategies, viabilities and balance implications. I actually felt like I learned a lot of new interesting things back then. However, in order to get that type of discussions, Artosis needs to play the game actively, and thus understand the more underlying new Meta trends. I think its easy to see he isn't capable of that today, and was therefore just asking these very broad questions.
Like, some of the new metatrends as a terran player could be this;
- Flash's quick Ebay vs protoss (Whereh you have +1 in time for 2base blink stalker)
- Hellbats replacing Spider Mines in TvZ, but neither unit really seem to do very well. Is there a balanceissue and if so, how did it arise? Artosis could then also easily ask whether they think the Siege Tank could be introduced to bio-play in a future meta (something Innovation has experiemented with on his stream).
- Widow Mine shield buff implications vs Toss. Good/bad? How has it forced protoss to adapt in their builds and how can protoss beat scv pulls if they are "forced" into Colossus tech? For Dayshi, Artosis could have asked when you start getting Widow Mines against various types of openings. As a terran player, I feel like I could have learned a lot there.

A bit of a bad episode tbh. Artosis is a great commentator and has great knowledge but hosting a show is just not his thing. Bunny BabyK and Snute are cool dudes for sure but none of them adds really something that makes a "boring" episode better. In the old SotG ages there were always some guests that were able to carry the show if the topics were bad.
Also i think Hots is pretty much figured out at the moment so just not really good topics. And drama is not Metas thing.

I guess if we compare Artosis to other hosts, I think he actually does his job quite well (at least in the first 15 Meta's or so).
JP obviously didn't really follow the scene very much (basically he just spent 5 minutes reading up on most recent reddit threads), and didn't really ask that cool questions anyway. As you point out, it instead had hosts he could carry the show. DJwheat, I like his passion, but not that big of a fan of him content-wise. Unfiltered, I feel like Destiny carries the show in the sense that he has many interesting opinions about a lot of stuff. Something very few Sc2 pro's have.
But yeh, these SC2pro's, they can't carry the show them selves. They need to have a host ready to ask questions about newest trends in the meta, potential new strats and stuff like that. But that simply requires Artosis playing actively at high master league. It really wouldn't surprise me if Artosis hasn't played Sc2 for 6+ months (or something like that), and thus simply isn't capable of delievering a quality show.
I guess at this point, I wouldn't mind no new meta's (even though it used to my fav. show). If Artosis enjoys Hearthstone more and can earn more money producing content there, I think he should stick to that.
Too some extent, I guess agree that there is less stuff to talk about in the Meta show as HOTS is getting figured more out, but I still feel like they could have 2h+ discussions with like a monthly Meta or so.

Morrow still completely misquoting what David Kim said. Reddit even corrected him and apparently he still didn't get the meme.
No Morrow, David Kim didn't nerf Widow Mines because he thought they were too strong vs zerg. Seriously, I don't understand how anyone can be on this show without being aware of that.
