At least with blizzard getting more evolved than ever in esports, it's safe to say that random patches like "let's try a queen with +2 range" won't happen ... I guess ?

probably a Code S group format thing or something.

Its not that top 5 of one GSL gets spots. They get points through the whole season, and then top 5 point places get spots.

the whole season is just that... one season. the top 5 point places will be the top 5... places

Not really. Like if somebody ends up in 5-8 place in GSL and also wins Dreamhack, he can have more points (assuming Dreamhack awards points) then somebody in Top3 GSL. imo.

no. you can only participate in one region, which means you only get points from one region.

true enough, but i sort of expect peripheral tournaments to be worth significantly less than the major WCS leagues

dreamhack is not a WCS league though so players can play in WCSKR and dreamhack easily enough. same with the weekend MLGs etc

If only Europeans get extra points from Dreamhack, that would be silly.

oh yeah, forgot about that. i wonder if players will get those points even if they're not playing in the region the event is at, and also how many points those actually end up giving. i guess we'll have to wait for that info to comeo ut.

I was kinda hoping for an announcement that would make the foreign teams get off their lazy asses and start buying affordable practice houses and start running them properly and develop new talent like the ESF teams did with the little money they had.
I honestly think WCS Korea should get a much bigger prize pool because winning that actually means something. Obviously that wont happen.

I would imagine both OGN and GOM would keep their respective price for VODs as they need to get some benefit out of this deal.

Now, Blizzard just needs to fix their game. Only then can SC2 take over the world.

OGN has the VoDs for their channel (so basically LoL The Champions + WCS) set to 6 USD per month. Of course you will have their casters = Doa and Montecristo casting, not Tastosis/Woldor.

I guess we don't know about GOM, but I am personally paying the 20 USD/month for full access to everything SC2 GOM and I guess I will keep doing that (and I will probably also buy the OGN for LoL tbh :D)

Creating team houses are a HUGE investment. You need sufficient sponsors and dedicated team members, and they HAVE to produce results in order for the investment to pay back itself. Foreign teams also have their money elsewhere, it's not like they only partake in starcraft 2 ventures. They typically have LoL, Dota, CS, etc. teams.

For season finals yes. It's entirely possible the ultimate Grand Finals at the end will be 16 Koreans

Well honestly if playing in GSL excludes you from WCS EU/NA, then i belive that there wont be so many koreans at the Grand Finals. I cant imagine any of MVP, MC, Life, Flash, DRG, Leenock, Parting, Rain etc. to NOT play in GSL and only 5 of those will be able to play in WCS GF. So it will be either only 5/6 koreans (host country maybe) or it will be 5 top koreans and 10 koreans who nobody ever heard about that was suddenly better that top EU/NA players.
This rules may actually make LESS koreans in the main event.

No no no... The Grand Finals is dependent solely on points which is controlled not only by WCS but potentially from points awarded at non-WCS events.
PartinG fanboy to the max, Rain/Squirtle/Dear/Scarlett/Bbyong are cool too. I don't always watch Dota2 but when I do I have no clue what's going on. GOGO POWER RANGERS

Of course its a huge investment but its also the reason why Koreans shit on every other region. ESF teams rents apartments in Seoul (which probably cost waaaay more than buying houses in the US). Dont forget that most ESF teams had very small sponsorships in the beginning of SC2. They sacrificed a lot (salary, travel and probably even basic stuff like food) but they persevered and now they are reaping the benefits.

Uh, this was that announcement. Foreign teams placing high in tournaments means more sponsor money. Foreign teams placing high in tournaments means more tournament winnings. Given the prestige and amount of money on the line at WCS, foreign teams should see a large windfall from this, which should allow them to become more competitive.

After sleeping on it, the only thing I dislike about this announcement is that GSL and OSL are the korean qualifiers. These are top events and should not be exclusive to a certain region. The korean qualifiers should just be another tournament on top of them, IMO.

The last WCS was sort of like the WSOP main event. Huge prize pool but filled with low talent and nobody really thinks the first place finisher is the best in the world. To potentially undermine the GSL and OSL in order to make the WCS even bigger.. I feel it is a huge mistake.
