thats not right. i dont have 1000 1v1wins, but i was in masters since season1. a friend of mien (who doesnt play a lot, but is quite talented) is in masters since season1 too, but only has ~200 1v1 wins.

There was a thread like this a few months after WoL came out with the same question. Back then anyone with 750+ wins is guaranteed cheese, and Dark Voice / Predator you just roll your eyes. These threads pop up every few months and it's fun to see how reactions to the high win count portraits change over time. Then at some point people realized how pro Kachinsky is....
Personally I just pick what I think looks cool, and is attainable for me. I've used the SCV (he's freaking pro), Marine, Kate Lockwell, Nyon, Executor, and Stank, and now I have Lassara. I only have the 50 solo win achievement, hit Masters, then pretty much quit the game and never played 1v1 again. And when I did come back occasionally I'd just play team games.
Compare this thread (to people who never played the campaign and don't care) to the guys in the Campaign thread bitching about how easy Brutal is, and that there should be a difficulty tailored for diamond/masters players.

Guys I love you.for all these things you said. Just to say, i use the Cade portrait absolutely always. I got tons and tons of portraits but never changed the Cade one. I think it is the best and it is hilarious that it is free and you got it in the beginning.

initial portrait everyone starts with = badass (bonus points if barcode player)
initial black guy portrait = even more of a badass (bonus points if barcode player)

I don't make assumptions based on what portrait someone is using, because honestly, 2.5 years after release, you don't need to be a portrait farmer who only worker rushes or something to have dark voice.
I use whatever I feel like though, typically hydralisk or reaper, though I'm using primal queen right now

I've always thought Huk and Scarlett belong together. They'de be a great couple. And I too have noticed they both use the same portrait

You didn't get much of this thread did you? It's called "stereotypes" for a reason, we're not trying to seriously reverse someone's skill by his portrait, much of it is a joke.
As you said, if you like a portrait, put it on. I personally have grinded 25 random wins just to have the sentry portrait, although I play purely Terran. Someone said in this thread that random portraits are cheesers, and I found it funny, I was not offended by it :/

I used the default Kachinsky for the first few weeks. My friends from Broodwar already had 4000+ SC2 games played. Initially I didn't bother to change my portrait since I hadn't really unlocked any of them. After awhile, it became a point of pride to me among my friends, that I could compete with them despite the lack of experience. The Kachinsky portrait became a symbol of that.
However, I hit a slump where I was losing games and struggling to adapt to SC2 and find my identity as a player. I switched to Thatcher then and believe it or not this kind of lightened my mood since I couldn't take it as seriously, seeing my name next to that chick with the hat pre-game, it would always make me laugh and then I would enjoy the game more. Plus, there are so many Kachinsky portraits out there.
I have yet to encounter 1 Thatcher as an opponent, so the fact that it is rare also makes it a novelty of sorts.
It makes me feel unique :D
I really did like Kachinsky a lot but too many people use it.
