Are those devourers somewhere in the campaign? I don't really remember seeing them.

This is geared mainly toward 1v1 (since I don't play many team games) but 2v2, 3v3, etc. options are welcome as well.
Some personal examples of thoughts that pop into my head:
Spectre - not a very good player, but tries to come off as a bad-ass. often focused on trying to look gosu without a willingness to put in the time, effort, and practice necessary to become gosu
Nova - encountering these, as a lower league player, I know these players have plenty of games under their belt but the lack of progression through the ranks indicates an inability to adapt to the changing metagame. I tend to correlate these portraits to play resembling standard builds but hastily or sloppily executed. Obviously some of these associations change depending on league. I tend to play more patiently and rely on them making a mistake or becoming impatient (example: running into my tank line in TvT).
Hybrid/Dark Voice - portrait farmer! likely using 3rd party "software". I'm less likely to cheese for fear of maphacking. Also more on alert to getting cheesed myself.
Kachinsky - possible smurf? or serious 1v1 player does not care about game peripherals is purely focused on becoming a better player. very common portrait but ranges from complete noob to trolling lower leagues to seriously skilled player. This portrait definitely gives rise to the most personal uncertainty - am I playing a well-known user who is going to post this on youtube, or someone too lazy to go and look at their settings?
Also, I tend to worry when a player is using an off-race portrait. More often than not these turn into one-sided games where I get whooped.
I can't really comment on any of the HOTS portraits since it is so new, I haven't really had time to draw any inferences on them based on old games and personal experience.
I'd love to hear what you associate with certain portraits!
I have very similar thoughts when being stoned. I always feel very smart at such moments. When being sober again, I recognize that I have over rationalized.

Everything said on Katchinsky is true, completely random between pro and noob. The only other thing I keep running into (mostly in WoL) are zerg with toss portrait. Whenever I see that, I blindly assume they will go roach infestor and never muta ling against me (I'm terran).

Nah, sadly they weren't used. Though Phill Gonzo said that they'll try to get Blizzard to add them (as enemies or something) in LotV campaign if possible.
They're in the editor though (use the two dependencies that has to do with "swarm" story mode and swarm campaign).
The devourer is already set up (units, actors, weapons, etc), and you can see the animations, and attack, etc if you load those dependencies and place a few devourers (just search "Devourer" on the unit tab). (Also I prefer detailed view, list tree for the editor rather than the default table view.)
The Devourer animations and everything were done really well IMO.

Kachinsky - usually somewhere in between noob and pro, always think they're better than they are Cade - guaranteed cheese Thatcher - some ridiculous strat you've never seen before Hall - usually quite bad
Bad player portraits - Marine, Roach, Void Ray Good player portraits - Medivac, Hydra, Carrier
I think about this alot

Cade means they're really good 100% of the time, and not just because I use him. :D

The OPs portrait stereotypes are awesome! Never thought of that :D I think the 1000 wins portraits unusually put a bit of fear in me actually...

Kind of like how the initial reaction to encountering someone on the street wearing tattered, smelly clothing is quite a bit different than somebody in a 3-piece suit and shiny Oxfords.
I'm sure some people are more focused on the race and map during those few seconds of loading but screenname and portrait can also have an impact. As previously stated, league is another important variable that also changes the distribution of the portraits.
I agree with what youre saying.
Common ones for me, are high end portraits (although as the game goes on now, more people have access to them)
When I used to see Ultralisk/Queen of Blades I used to think "ffs... here we go" - especially because I play Zerg and DETEST Z v Z... but now I've got the Ultra and almost Queen of Blades... I think "hmmm well they could be my level, or worse" (Plat Zerg)
But yeh Cade/Kachinsky I think they know their shit and dont care for portraits. Never assume "hehe he hasnt unlocked anything cause hes noob"
P.S - to this day, I still call the Predator Portrait the Terratron... it looks identical (the head of the Terratron)

(Bears = American slang for large, gay, hairy men often with a smaller, more effeminate partner) That might just have been me and my friends :D I used it just for fun and because ppl were so annoyed by it, and then my friends also used it when we played teamgames ^^

that bear one looks stylish

Isn't that one based off of Dustin Browder?

I love my FFA Insane AI Portrait and the Wraith portrait - both from WoL.
I have a soft spot for the overmind WoL portrait as well as the Hydrid one from 1000 team random WoL.
WoL Ghost and Spectre portraits are also pretty cool.
HotS portraits are too artsy-fartsy for my liking.
I'm not sure if you can tell very much about a person from the portrait that they use. I've pretty much used all of the WoL portraits I unlocked at some point (except for the "Exploration" ones). It would be nice to have some of the collector's edition portraits, but I really don't care about paying more for that kind of content.
That goliath portrait cracks me up, too. I had that one for a while, but I didn't want people thinking I was a chubby, middle-aged, bald man with a goatee.
