I can't believe a poll even had to be made. That anyone would think Dreamhack is more prestigious then GSL just warps my mind.

I wouldn't agree. It's certainly the hardest but I wouldn't say it's the most prestigious. I'd give that honour to Dreamhack which continually puts on an amazing show with epic games and makes an effort to be truly worldwide.

Code S simply is not worth it for foreigners. There are a number who could compete (Stephano, Thorzain, Naniwa, Grubby and so on) and will likely continue to compete periodically but they won't work at it for weeks and weeks in order to win one Code S. Seriously. Why would you? There's no money in it, you're in a foreign country far from home and the only reason you're doing it is to satisfy a few stupid fans on a forum who will eviscerate you if you don't win in exactly the fashion they want you to win.

It's not the kind of deal I'd ever do. Especially not if I were as good at the game as Stephano is. I'd be more than happy to make a killing sniping those Koreans brave enough to fight on foreign soil.

Dreamhack more prestigious than GSL? I don't think you know what prestigious means. Nobody is going to weigh a Dreamhack win, even Dreamhack Winter to any GSL. Liquid`HerO is a two time champion of the toughest Dreamhack tournament but no one uses that to say he's better than players who have won even a single GSL.

Oh give it over. Code S is hard, yes, but for much of its life it was also massively weighted towards players that were already in it. It is also a massive financial commitment for foreigners in a completely different country and has made no efforts to allow itself to be more global other than extraordinarily weighted transfer schemes with MLG and occasionally allowing foreigner high level players that beat Koreans the chance to compete.

On the other hand Dreamhack has had universally open qualifiers and has hosted dozens of tournaments worldwide in dozens of games. Dreamhack Summer is THE highlight of the esports year, full stop, the largest convocation of geeks and nerds worldwide collecting into an arena to celebrate their love of gaming. It has the best production values, the best hosts, the best games.

Don't get me wrong. I love Code S as much as anyone but it is ultimately gated because it is so Korean centric. It is designed for a Korean to win. People say "Oh Stephano was never any good he got knocked out of Code S straight away." Well exactly how many times have we seen a great player slammed out of Code S in even more one sided games than Stephano? I watched Mvp get roach rushed two games in a row in a Code S game. I saw Gumiho get utterly destroyed by Thorzain - systematically taken apart. Are Gumiho and Mvp no longer greats?

In order to compete in Code S you have to be there, all the time. Yes, the competition is intense but it is also very heavily weighted against anyone competing from outside Korea. It is a huge commitment and until it is no longer as big a commitment, it lacks the prestige people assign it.

Well that's sort of the definition of prestige isnt it.
Besides, dreamhack, it's a poor example. Great tournament, no doubt, but if you want to look at the money and global competition - it's WCS. If you want to look at fast paced events that allow anyone to join - MLG takes the cake.

Yea I would put MLG and IPL way ahead of dreamhack.
GSL>OSL>MLG>IPL>DH imo

I bet the two trolls on that poll think theyre funny though

I don't even think Dreamhack is the most prestigious foreign tournament. The lineups they produce just aren't that great anymore to really make it as competitive as MLG, Iron Squid, and certainly not IPL.

OSL >= GSL > WCS > IPL > Iron Squid > MLG > Dreamhack

in my book

oops.

Regular IEM is less than a standard Dreamhack, the World Championship is greater than or equal to MLG though imo.

I fail to see how this is in any way Stephano's fault, of course playing in the first big Hots tournament is worth a lot more then up and downs playing WOL which as we all know he doesn't even play anymore. Personally I think the bigger problem here is that GSL didn't consider this in their scheduling and that up and downs for whatever reason is WOL.

Tournament prestige is determined by the fans, their opinions is what makes a tournament prestigious. If everyone believed Dreamhack was the more prestigious tournament then it would be true, if no one cared about GSL then it wouldn't be the most prestigious tournament, pretty simple.

Don't bite, he's a troll and he'll probably get banned again soon.

Also, how on earth did we get to arguing whether DreamHack is the most prestigious foreign tournament from EG/Stephano forfeiting his Up&Down seed.
