Does does this mean stephano will also not be playing in PL on that day? Aren't the matches and orders also determined by the team?

How can EG fuck up big time when GOM is releasing the U&D so late ?
I am a "stephano hater" but the hate here is just out of control and full of nonsense.
They should have this kind of schedules months prior the events taking into consideration other events, if not, there will be forfeits.

That is the real problem, it is an embarrassment that the GSL cannot find a calendar or go to TL and click on the “Upcoming Events” tab. Artosis knows how to use TL, he could show them how and then they could avoid this problem in the future.
"Now see these dates? Don't set the matchs for the white guy on these dates and he can attend. Got it?" too bad stephano could have played in both if he moved his flight a few hours lol you wanna pay a couple grand to do that? considering he has PL too, eg probably would be able to That sounds like a terrible plan and a waste of money. And PL is a team league, so some other memeber of the team can fill in. has never happened before and i don't see kespa accomodating. Well then its the coaches fault for not being aware of the Stephano's upcoming events. Who is the coach of EGTL again? Didn't they team up with some ex-Kespa coach, who should know better than to set his players up for a match when they are not going to be in Korea? GOM's fault! EG's fault! Airlines' fault! I wonder when you're going to blame the person that decided to forfeit. In most sports professional players don’t control their schedule or decide where they get to play. They work for the team and the team makes decisions on what the best use of their time would be. There is NO reason for EG to play in an U&D match over the IEM world championship. IEM will have more viewers, more exposure to a larger market and better coverage. It’s a no brainer from a business standpoint, which is what drives all these events and teams. If it's actually EG's fault then I'll happily point the finger at them. Considering Stephano has a history of forfeiture and money-grubbing, I'm inclined to say it's his fault though. From any standpoint beyond wallet stuffing, it was a terrible thing to do. Now his team gets a free loss, his U/D group has less integrity, and he's shit on the Code S seed that was granted to him. Guess what happens next time an international player or team wants to play in the GSL or PL? The managers are going to remember Stephano. He's hurting more people than himself here.
Only on TL could a simple scheduling conflict be taken to this level of drama. There is a section of this community that treats a play forfeiting a GSL match the same way middle school girls each other when they cancel a shopping session.

Anyone who is surprised by this doesn't know the routine that Stephano has gotten into. Oh and the fact he knows he won't be able to make nearly as much MONEY doing GSL as the umpteen foreign tournaments.

Well they only gave Stephano 5 days notice, its close, but not exactly on point. Still, no one cared that Grubby forfited, because he isn't on EG.

Sorry the title of the thread (and atleast the first 3 pages) must have confused me about this thread being about U&D matches.

He hasn't achieved anything in SC2 and most likely never will. As a result, no one (hyperbolic!) cares whether he plays or not. Just as no one will care if Yonghwa forfeits either GSL or IEM or about the many, many times where Korean players have simply not shown up to foreign tournaments they've been signed up for or invited to.
Stephano is the most popular player in the world. People care about what he does no matter what it is. The topic on reddit about him forfeiting has more comments than the GSL semi-final. Very few actually care about SC2 content at this point, it seems. But everyone has an opinion on how Stephano should act, regardless of their own ignorance of the situation.
The moment Stephano's name is mentioned, there will be people cheering for him, and there will be people celebrating his downfall. It's the pleasure and pain of being SC2's biggest name.

Stephano o _ o why are u pulling a Rain on us? Rain has said he always regretted going to that MLG :'(

Well thats the coach's problem, not Stephanos. Stephano does not set up the team roster for each match.

I am a "stephano hater" but the hate here is just out of control and full of nonsense. They fucked up big time if they submitted him as a player in proleague when he's actually on a plane. That'd be a case of bad communication between evoli and Hwanni.
They didn't fuck up in case of GOM, that's either way unlucky that GOM decided to play Up&Downs in WoL and at this date, but EG either didn't want to spend quite a bit on money on booking a new flight for him or Stephano expressed the wish not to play in GSL anymore.
Stephano actually didn't fuck up like some people here say unless he specifically told EG that he doesn't want to play Up&Downs or that he refuses to fly at a later date and have less time to get rid of jetlag.

Not if a foreigner was able to win. The first prize in GSL is very high

The reason people say EG fucked up is because of Proleague man. They scheduled Stephano to play LATER THAT SAME DAY as his UnD. Hell, notice UnD is scheduled on 11:10 KST which is earlier than usual so Stephano can play Proleague.
That implies that EG fucked up here.

Also, Yonghwa has the same problem. He is playing in IEM as well but the days he is playing is only one day apart compared to Stephano's four. I wonder what Yonghwa is going to do?

Great to hear that after having all of your reasons refuted you've fallen back on simple smearing.

@mock, by that logic, every foreigner except Stephano is a mediocre player with mediocre following.

whatever i have more fun watching him dominate a lot of foreign tournaments then having to stay up super late (east coast USA) only to be sad before going to bed if he loses lol

Nobody cared about Grubby because (a) he doesn't have a history of forfeiture, (b) he doesn't have legions of deluded fanboys, and (c) he's not screwing over his team in order to get the big bucks.

Rather assuming that the coach knew this was going to happen, aren't we? No evidence of that. Stephano has a history of quitting when he doesn't feel like playing, this smells more like his odor than EG's.
