I wonder when you're going to blame the person that decided to forfeit. In most sports professional players don’t control their schedule or decide where they get to play. They work for the team and the team makes decisions on what the best use of their time would be. There is NO reason for EG to play in an U&D match over the IEM world championship. IEM will have more viewers, more exposure to a larger market and better coverage. It’s a no brainer from a business standpoint, which is what drives all these events and teams. If it's actually EG's fault then I'll happily point the finger at them. Considering Stephano has a history of forfeiture and money-grubbing, I'm inclined to say it's his fault though. From any standpoint beyond wallet stuffing, it was a terrible thing to do. Now his team gets a free loss, his U/D group has less integrity, and he's shit on the Code S seed that was granted to him. Guess what happens next time an international player or team wants to play in the GSL or PL? The managers are going to remember Stephano. He's hurting more people than himself here. Only on TL could a simple scheduling conflict be taken to this level of drama. There is a section of this community that treats a play forfeiting a GSL match the same way middle school girls each other when they cancel a shopping session. Great to hear that after having all of your reasons refuted you've fallen back on simple smearing. It is a pretty stupid issue. Do you really think GOM is so irrational to bar Stephano from playing or hate all other non-korean players cause of this? That he had another event and he didn’t cancel when they gave him less than 5 days notice of his match. Do you really think that this tiny little thing is going to create a massive rift between GOM and the western teams? Is that what is going to happen because of this? Because it has happened before and there were no issues. The community loves drama. And when there is no drama, they will make their own, regardless of logic, history or rational thinking. It was only announced within five days of the match, but the coaches know about them beforehand. But let's ignore "logic, history or rational thinking" to defend the player that has several times in the past forfeited because he felt like it. First off, there is no reason to believe that anyone knew the dates of the U&D matches any time before this. Also, its pretty clear you don’t like Stephano, which is fine. But don’t act like he did something morally incorrect by forfeiting a qualifying match to play an a World Championship he qualified for a long time ago and was announced months ago. He is a member of a team and played for him to go to that event and that event will provide more exposure for their sponsors. Money or not, the U&D matches are just less important than IEM.
There is reason, because that's how it's always been for GSL matches. And yes, he did do something morally incorrect by fucking his PL team over for the big bucks.

Basically, the highest profile foreign player is trading a whole lot of respect to likely bomb out of IEM (full of top players) and collect ~ $1400. Really?
If he played U&D and made it back to code S, I wouldnt give him anymore respect than I already do. If he wins IEM, Ill respect him that much more.
By your logic, he's doing the most respectable thing possible here. Directly fighting for another championship title.

Very disappointing in stephano. Playing at IEM is way more interesting for Stephano than GSL. by interesting you mean $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

thanks, i needed a good laugh tonight.
sad that stephano won't be playing, but at least this increases MKP's chances of advancing. he only has to practice TvP, and in a four player group the statistical chance to improve increases to 25%.
i feel like the people in the 6 player groups might be a little pissed off about this though.

So he's still on the lineup for proleague(which takes place on the same day as U&D), or is that matchup going to be an auto-forfeit?

Yeah man, screw Rain too! Bastard forfeited his code S seed to go to MLG! Who does he think he is?! Mr.Fancy Pants OSL champ myahhhh!
<_>
Also, do we really have an accurate gauge on Stephano in HotS? I'm actually curious since I haven't followed his stream much. I know if IEM was still WoL Stephano would've stood a great chance top players or not.

Unfortunate, but not really surprising imo.

Well he just lost whatever respect I had left for him.

He chooses a much easier tournament with a much greater chance of making money over the top competition in the world........and now he is a bad player? He was in arguably the hardest round of 32 group and went 1 game away from advancing. Name me one other non-korean that would make it out of that group........ Exactly. Who the fuck cares that he's non-Korean. I'm not giving anybody a pat on the head for their failures just because they happen to not be white; I mean, if anybody on a ESF/KEPSA team did half the shit that Stephano's done, they would be anathema. And you know what? Nobody would care. He's not a quirky genius that wins OSLs. Flash he is not. Held up to the same standards as Koreans, he's not that great, and his antics are really getting annoying. (But not quite as annoying as the constant excuses from his fanboys.) These double standards are stupid. Hes not that great? What the fuck are you smoking! He has demonstrated again and again that he is the best non-korean in sc2! Andbeing the best non korean is not bad. Take the most recent korea vs. world: Stephano beat Life,MC, Seed, and DRG! Explain to me how that is "not that great". Also, you don't know the full situation on his decision (team influence ect) so don't go all freak out about how you are "tired of his antics". Another thing, i can only assume from your quote (Mionix_Naniwa, King in the North!) that you are a Naniwa fan. Did you freak out this much when Naniwa probe rushed in the GSL because he was mad? If you didnt, then dont talk to me about a fucking double standard!

Stephano is good but he does not research the people he is playing that much that is his downfall in GSL, Its not MLG or IEM you have to prepare for the games and research the people he is playing.

And the main issue I have is that he could easily go to both because there's over 2 whole days between U/D and when his IEM matches start.

Stephano doesn’t control the team line up for PL for specific days. That is the coaches job, not his. If anything, it is the coaches fault for not knowing that Stephano was going to the IEM World Championship, that he qualifed for months ago.

Is it too indecorous to label Stephano either a dodger or money over fame guy?
Clearly he either wants to be the big fish in the little pond or grab the easy money rather than potentially become the best Zerg.
I feel like this will become a broken record.
