His time spent : money earned ratio will go way up by skipping the long tournaments.
You can win as much prestige as you want through your career, but last time I checked you can't buy a house with prestige. It won't pay for your education either.
And let's be honest, winning a GSL isn't exactly like a gold medal in the olympics, or winning the world cup now, is it? Well you could always ask MarineKing...

Can he win his Code S spot back if he places in top3 or whatever in MLG or is that partnership not there anymore?

Gom will give 2 seeds every season to any player who they think deserve it through results outside of Gsl. They have a few restrictions though.
- they won't give it to someone who tried his luck through code A and fell. - they won't give to someone who has already received a seed - very rarely they will give to an Esf player.
Rain hits that second point as he has already been seeded last season

Doesn't make sense... Yes it does, he is at the top right now, and with all the tournaments coming up he will pick up more money than the GSL can offer. Now, postponing the entire GSL for 1 day wouldn't hurt them I don't get why they don't just move it until the week after. it would hurt them, this GSL is being rushed because of ipl 5, they have no space to mess around with dates, and especially not when one player is being a giant dick about it. they do try to move groups around when the have advance warning, but he told them 2 days before he was due to play

Him going to Code A round 1 is cause he forfeit, not a punishment at all. It would be totally fucking insane if they counted wins don't you think?

You're right, I forgot he lost in Ro4, he was such a strong player, I always assumed in my head he'd win.
Why would they punish a player for forfeiting? It's punishment enough he doesn't get to compete, and has to crawl back. Some enter Code A and never return.

Not punishment for forfeiting, punishment for being incompetent when it comes to giving notice.
Like what a previous post said, him going down to Code A is not punishment, it's what's SUPPOSED to happen.

I hope rain gets knocked out by a no-namer (or better, CombatEX) in the open bracket for doing this dick move.

Actually winning code S is exactly that in the SC2 scene...
So you are saying Pepsi or Coca-Cola will line up and pay you millions of dollars to appear in commercials, eh?
I think you missed my point...
And to the guy talking about sets : money ratio, if I played 4 tournaments in the time it took Code S to finish, not only is it a bigger winning chance because they ain't as hard to win as Code S, but you might even get around the same amount of money from winning them, if not more.
Plus going abroad will definitely increase his sponsor value.

Its probably because the team wanted to bring him more foreign fans and this is brought through sending him to mlg.

I think a tournament populated by players from only one country will always have less appeal and prestige than an international tournament.
Umm...what prestige does a tournament with foreigner bads have?

Calling MLG more prestigious than GSL is a joke ~_~ does anyone really care who wins MLG? Do we talk up Leenock as the best player in the world for winning two MLG's from the open bracket? Pretty sure all the hype is on Life and Rain for being the Korean Starleague defending champions.

MLG = easy money (compared to GSL)
Makes sense.

Aw man, the semi final curse hits again, except since Rain is too solid to a lose, he forfeits his spot.

Hopefully GSL does what they did with (other)Rain and suspend him for a season. Rain was one of the GSL's main stars after S4 and could have been a reason why a lot of people bought a ticket.
I guess making a big name for himself in America is a good move, and he does have WCS Global Finals also this month that he might have put more priority on than Code S, but it seems like a foolish move. If he was in group play, I can maybe see it, but what happens if he rolls MC in the OB, loses a PvP and then has to win 30 matches in a row to even make Championship Sunday?
Edit: I just realized this is the second time in history a player has given up their Code S seed willingly. BOTH WERE NAMED RAIN.
One was named Idra!!!!

Makes sense. Yeah, at MLG he can expect his winrate to be like 90% and approaching 100% when it comes to bo3's.
In GSL, hovering around 66%. At GOM there's like 8+ players that have a good chance of knocking you out, at MLG there's 2 or 3.

LOL you are serious? the mlg open bracket is a joke. most players i've never heard of and wont ever again. it would be an upset if a korean even lost 1 map there. or playing a map for more than 10 minutes.

M18M (StarDustLighT) already lost a map to LuckyFool last night in WR3.

Not really a joke, if you get Polt or MC or similar players as your opponents. Now we know it is not the case for him, but it can be very tough nevertheless.
