To be fair Veralynn has literally no chance of ever recovering from this, so I can see why she'd just leave everything instantly. Deathangel is still a decent player and has invested a lot into this game so he probably wants to have some sort of future in it.
That isn't just or fair. That's cowardly and a terrible stance to take on handling your own problems.
I moved through to 19minutes and started from there. The way she mocks female gamers by beating them in all-girl tournaments is particularly sickening.
Her general smugness is annoying anyway, with all of this revealed here it makes it laughable.
I was amused that she revealed she was offered a full LAN support package to go to iSeries (the biggest LAN in the UK & Ireland, with a prize pool of around $2500), but turned it down because she doesn't think she's good enough. In honesty, a top-ranking GM would basically walk into third place.
In general, throughout the interview she seems really enthusiastic about bragging about beating top professional players on a regular basis. When it comes down to situations like joining a team, or going to a LAN, she puts herself down and says that's not good enough.
29:00-> she describes beating Dragon 4-0 in ladder matches, and how disappointed he was that he'd lost to a girl. Until I'd seen that, I wasn't particularly convinced that there was any damage to females in eSports. After seeing that........

1st : hats of to KawaiiRice , very smart and observant guy and nice job in studying all the stuff , remember playing you on both accounts on ladder , you being fateofseven on EU server
2nd : yea.. I'm a scumbag and I played on other ppl accounts , I also play on some smurfs too not only on my nick , just to try different strategies etc.
3rd : I am very sorry to everyone affected by this , I basically played on someone's else account , make it into GM .. wich seems ok , like a smurf for me..
but the effects were very bad it seems I am very sorry for this , but I played legit starcraft , not map hackign or
something .. I am interested in the competitive aspect of the game.. and I never got the chance to play in any showmatch on my own.. never got invited.. was amazed when I found out that there are so many ppl interested to see a girl play.. so I accepted to play.. wich is bad.. I am such a scumbag.. I should just refuse it..
I also hurt some ppl it seems , I just wanted to play some good matches of sc2 in wich seemed a friendly showmatch .. I just wanted to see if I am skilled enough to beat someone good in a showmatch .
What can I say.. I shouldn't done that.. I would also feel bad if someone would
come pretending to be someone else and beating me.. feels bad , but I had no
interest in scamming someone or put them to get coaching from veralynn. I just played on her account as a smurf of mine , and now I feel kind of dumb
hearing ppl paid coaching lessons.. I thought there was only free coaching cause
I would see free coaching all the time when I was looking at her stream , I am
pretty sure there must be some misunderstanding regarding this.
Feel sorry ppl were so naive , but that must be a lesson also , why would you
take lessons from a girl just because she is gm , and also , don't you see that
the coaching is not GM level ? or maybe the coaching was good and deserved the
money.. I have no ideea and I feel very sorry if the things were like this.
I should also play only my own account from now on , I am not interested in
scamming ppl for money or other stuff like that.. I am a legit player and I can
play and win showmatches against those players on my own , also I can coach on my
own and give good coaching and good advices , what I did was stupid and didn't
benefit me in any way .
I really feel sorry , I just wanted to play some good games , my intentions were
good.. but.. stuff happens.. such a sick life.. I trully feel very sorry for the guys that were upset to have lost to a ,,girl''
, you guys actually lost to me .
Also very sorry for my english. It's 5am and I am tired.
I am kind of a guy that sold a gun to a random guy on the street then realising the crime
PS . Never trust women , they are evil.
Your post is full of excuses and you continue to lie to the community we both know it is against Blizzard rules to share an account. Sorry but I call your post pure bs, you wrote here just because this situation will explode in your face.
The problem here isn't a violation of Blizzard rules. I honestly don't care whether or not they violated Blizzard rules. This is like the least relevant point ever. The betrayal of trust and the taking advantage of the community is the real issue...
So I was one of the people who supported the person "Vera" from just before or at the time the account reached GM on EU, and the person "Vera" was streaming some free coaching and replays. And watching those few nights I got more drawn into mostly the personality combined with some SC2 knowledge.
It wasn't like she was totally clueless, but it didn't matter since the players she was coaching made some basic mistakes which anyone can see and point at. The difference was that she actually knew how to explain it properly.
And eventually, I was like, you're looking for sponsors for a Des'row showmatch? Why not support someone who you thought could use a little boost. So I offered to sponsor $100 for the showmatch, and ended up paypalling over the $75 to Des'row, but Vera refused multiple times to take runner up $25. Eventually was the Ziktomini showmatch, on which I handed $25 to Zikto, and again she was not inclined to accept the $75 prize money.
I watched her stream as she talked and explained her emotional states during the games and what she was thinking during and outside the games. So we can now conclude she put a lot of attention to detail on her act and pretend about something that wasn't her.
During and after that I solely was on the background, talking to her on skype occasionally, be in the z33k chats, being friendly, and I did not suspect or question a thing.
Of course there were a lot of odd things, which only now I can explain where it was coming from. I even made a fanclub thread after the person playing the account managed to get third in AGL.
She has put a lot of effort into befriending people based on not just lying, but basing an entire online life on it, and then a professional work life as well.
In my life I have experienced liars and happy smile people with hidden agenda's, but I had never before been so close to a pathalogical liar.
But in all fairness, my knowledge of Vera was only for a month or so, and my soon to be healed emotional scars will probably be nothing compared to what her real life family and friends will feel when they eventually find out. Also the casters of Z33k who were befriended with her who were hit with bricks, spears, maybe trucks and trains when they read this thread.
Let's hope she was the "this only happens every 50 years" kind of thing, because... well...
Thank you for uncovering and investigation.
Thanks to Deathangel for coming forward, although I don't think you're entirely clueless and innocent.
In any case, Let's move on and try to regain some of our trust in humanity again. /dramaqueenmode
VeraLynn is the one who should be punished for her actions, she asked someone else to play for her in order to boost her own image. DeathAngel surely did wrong by accepting do to do, but atleast I can't deny that he's got talent at sc2, and that he plays legit.
did i miss somthing? how can you be sure she asked him for leveling. could also be that since they were friends and he probably coached her a bit, so he knew she isn't too bad, then decided to ask her to level her acc and play for her in showmatches, so she gets the fame and they can share the money or smth. since he would never become good stream numbers unless he wins smth major/or makes really decent runs. But a girl would easily grow decent viewership after beating some good players. can't imagine it was all her idea. also it seems like deathangel has the right character for this. i don't want to defend veralynn. just think we should consider them little bit more equal guilty, until nothing else surfaces.
edit: woops there it is what i missed... i still don't believe it was solely veralynn's idea
Why are so many people letting DeathAngel off so easily here? His claim that he wanted to get showmatches makes no sense because none of the people watching knew it was him, so there was no way for him to actually gain anything (exposure, more matches, etc.) through his play. Even if he could gain exposure via Veralynn, he's pretending to be someone else so he could get showmatches because he couldn't get them on his own merit. There are lots of players out there deserving of a chance at the spotlight and DeathAngel/Veralynn took advantage of the concept of a woman gamer to steal that chance from others. Either way it's pretty shady and fucked up.
I don't think he really needs to be punished for life - he didn't cheat or anything. But, looking at those records provided by Kawaii, this was a pretty shady and coordinated operation between the two (even if poorly thought out). I really don't see how this was some innocent mistake on DA's part.

I don't have time to watch this video currently, but did she play in all-female tournaments as herself or as DeathAngel? If DeathAngel smurfed as her in female tournaments then there's no way he's innocent.

I would never got into any showmatch anyway because I don't posses a vagina , but thank you for comming with this smart idea sir , 100 hats down to you.
Yeah because Sjow, DesRow and ToD all have vaginas right?
I think the point is behind you -- splattered on the wall. It'd appear it went over your head.
He comes off to me like he's entitled to be in showmatches for whatever reason. Most players get in showmatches because they work their ass off and make a name for themselves. Some get there because of their gender its how it works because its what brings in viewers. Look at what he said in his post "and I never got the chance to play in any showmatch on my own.. never got invited..". Here's a question why should he get invited? Most people probably didn't even know who he was until today.
How do you define 'working your ass off' anyway? Deathangel has been to Korea and been one match away from Code A, not once but twice. He's not got a terrible record in other tournaments either, last Dreamhack winter I was behind him when he knocked out my beloved Grubby in the first group stage.
If 'working your ass off' means networking, yeah perhaps he does have to work on that.
I actually would like to see DA play straight up now. This could be the best thing for his career honestly if he can keep his nose clean, he has a lot of attention now.
Lol at Death Angels post. Guy knew exactly what he was doing and is just fishing for excuses and sympathy, downplaying his role and glossing over other areas. I mean, gimme a break.
So now that we've seen that Vera never got any money from the showmatches, I think the question is - how many people bought her coaching thinking she was really GM, and now are unhappy about it?

I took it as he just wanted to PLAY a showmatch, not get the recognition from it.
should someone edit her liquipedia page? It doesn't really feel right to read about her "achievements" and show match wins, considering they are not legitimate.

She says around 20-22 minutes in that she beat a master level player in the finals of an all-girls tournament to win, so it must have been DeathAngel playing... apparently she's just platinum or something.

In the end, they are the ones who lost. A lot. They won't be able to move around the eSports community without raising eyebrows. People will be watching them closely. It will be difficult for them to start anything without someone asking about this controversy. Every time they pop-up, they will be forced to answer or explain this controversy. That's punishment enough I think.
my friend.. a lot of top pros play on some regular ppl accounts.. for money or just for smurfing purposes .. it's just that you don't know .. I already explained this case
I think the difference is most don't stream pretending to be that person, and also don't play in show matches pretending to be that person. That is where the difference is. It is one thing to make money from power leveling someone to GM, and a whole different matter to promote some else's brand (in this case a female) in order to generate stream revenue for that person and in turn to help set up show matches for that person through that stream, and then play in those show matches for even more money. I am not saying you should be banned, etc. And I am sure eventually your reputation will be restored, but for the time being, giving the full story would help a lot more than playing mostly ignorant. It will def take time.
I am sorry , but I don't like drama , the story for me it's not important .. and I also don't know what you mean about ,, story'' .. I just found out that the fact that I used to play on that account created pain for some people , I will never do something like this again since it didn't benefited me in any way .. I was stupid , I would better try to play on my own and get a good reputation for my name.. eventho.. I don't have a vagina.. but atleast I should try to succed at image even in this way..
it did benefit you, who are you kidding here
after refusing to pay your lost sc1 betgames , you shouldn't try to imagine everyone acts like you
you are now playing the victim, like you didn't get any benefect from the whole situation and the guilty is the community that gives opportunities to women, but not to poor hardworking guys like you hahaha it's pathetic. seriously, man the f*** up, bro.

Okay, that's pretty unacceptable then. I can see wanting to play showmatches, but smurfing as a woman in an all-women's tournament is complete bullshit. If DeathAngel was playing in women's tournaments under the VeraLynn tag then he really deserves some kind of punishment.

It will be dealt accordingly to our own standard. Until then I advise everyone non-editor to refrain from editing her page.
