Actually yes it was. Could you elaborate for those of us who are unfamiliar with how it was? Thanks. I guess I could keep it simple so it's easier to follow. BW lasted for over a decade. That definitely defies the shelf-life of a game competitively. It had a decent following or else it would have caved a long time ago and something else would have replaced it sooner. As a Korean who grew up with the korean BW scene, I guarantee you, if SC2 was released in place of WC3, BW wouldn't have lasted as long. And WC3 could've killed BW anyway if KeSPA folks didn't intervene and pressure OGN/MBC Game to set up favorable timeslots for BW only. BW only lasted this long only because KeSPA willed it, not because WELL you get the idea. Edit: sorry, forgot which site I was in. Back to playxp, I guess. ㅋㄷㅋㄷㅋㄷ What have you done?

Because he said BW wasn't a good game. When i think he meant was not that special to be an e-sport for that many years, but KeSPA kept it alive. Maybe i got it wrong tho.

GOM has provided for the ESF players for 2 years when they had almost no income, and did their best to accommodate their individual situations.
They may not be directly controlled by GOM, but the ESF players are certainly returning the kindness and hospitality by making sure GOM gets a fair fight.

Because he said BW wasn't a good game. When i think he meant was not that special to be an e-sport for that many years, but KeSPA kept it alive. Maybe i got it wrong tho. That isn't what he said. He said BW survived because of Kespa's bullying, not because it was a good game. First part of that sentence is paraphrased, second part is pretty much verbatim.
People who don't understand English jumped all over it because 'not' and 'good' were in the same sentence as 'BW'.
His message can be paraphrased more clearly like this: Brood War did not survive so long solely because of its merits as a competitive game, but because it was propped up by an aggressive government organization (Kespa).

I thought the war3 scene died because of the whole race rigging scandals. I love BW too but it was losing fanbase. I mean look at the last few osls. Smaller and smaller venues. The lack of a foreign scene also really hurt BW.
KESPA is in the wrong here. Not sending players to their partner league due to schedueling is one thing but this is totally retarded. I know they're a governing body but they always do dumb shit like this.

So would you say that it had a strong, loyal (if local) base that kept it consistently financially viable during that time?
Indeed, or else the other sponsors would have closed shop as well.
I've been following for ages man. I've seen all kinds of stuff happen especially within the last few years of teams folding and hard times finding sponsors. You name it. Heck, didn't P&C even have a hard time finding a new owner? Wasn't it WeMade? It's almost as if P&C never existed. O_O
Really cannot remember and it isn't in my files.

I suspect that if Kespa survive this, they will reach out to the foreign scene. They did tried the Shanghai OSL thing, but the weather and local Chinese officials killed it.

I've debunked that myth many times.
Yes the scandal didn't help WCIII at all. Likewise with the BW match-fixing scandal as well.
The BW numbers were fine, but they weren't really increasing either.
They were using the SK Gymnasium. They had every reason to use that venue for the last few finals because it's owned by SK. You should know this considering you are an SK fan.
