Think before you post. This should go without saying, there are so many people making absolutely idiotic comments in this thread. If you have nothing constructive to say, please don't say anything.

Another pro gamer about to make a bunch of money. Awesome for esports! It is too bad more teams can't focus on getting together the money to help support players as much as EG, but at least someone out there is doing it.

The guys saying EG has no fan base, have you ever looked at stream numbers? Fan pages on TL? They are all the biggest streamers and have the most hardcore fans, heck InControl is the source of more media attention than almost anybody in Starcraft 2. They have the stability to make these big moves because of their popularity.

I remember reading somewhere that Incontrol makes Thousands coaching and usually has a packed schedule.

Good move for EG, and Stephano. Hopefully he will have continued success so its good for the scene also.

Everyone would want to be associated with EG.

They're the team that's doing the best job of getting their name out there.
For comparison: How many sponsors of EG can you name, and how many of Millenium can you name (without checking Liquipedia)?

Almost all of their players are known throughout the community, i.e Idra, incontrol, Huk, Thorzain.

Sponsors want to have their product and name known, and EG is probably the best team for that kind of thing.

To be honest: I can't name any sponsors, since I'm not sure which of the sponsors like Razor is sponsoring which team.
But even thou their players are known, I don't follow any of those anymore.
They suck. They started sucking since they joined EG. And if I ever knew a sponsor that is exclusively sponsoring EG, it would lessen the probability I buy something from them.

Compare that to TLAF: They seem sympatic to me for their engagement with Liquid.

Basically companies should do some research about the teams the sponsor....they might notice something. Being well known as a villain isn't that good if you want to sell something.

Bought players achievements since joining EG:
PuMa: IEM S6 Cologne, NASL S2, 2nd at Dreamhack Winter and IEM S6 WC, 3rd at IEM Guangzhou and ASUS ROG Winter
HuK: MLG Orlando, 3rd MLG Winter Arena, 4th MLG Winter Championship
JYP didn't really have results in the first place, but has performed well in some tournaments.
Thorzain didn't bomb out in Code A/S and has only played one tournament since on EG.

Doesn't seem too bad to me?

But it is. Tell me how many results those players got before they joined, how many directly afterwards and how many after they have stayed with EG for more than 6 month.
Perhaps I'm wrong, still it feels like they all declined massivly.

It's okay, just keep watching their performance. Keep following all of the EG players. The plan is working, whether they succeed or not your eyes are directly on their sponsors.

BTW, I hope EG does land Stephano. They both deserve the best.

Is anyone here even an EG fan?

You should turn your question around and ask how many fans team such as Quantic, Dignitas, Mouz have? How often do you hear people cheering for those teams rather than their players? Do people even have any opinion of these teams or are they just a bunch of letters next to player names? EG has a lot of haters, but they also have vocal supporters, which most foreigner teams lack completely.

Liquid has more supporters. SK is well known. Hell, even "team Grubby" is more liked.

Now: Where are EG's "vocal supporters" (in this tread)? Basically nobody likes them.

They are on twitter, facebook, at MLGs. That is how sponsors gauge support, not by reading reddit or teamliquid. By the way, EG player fan club threads are some of the biggest ones on TL.

Must be that way. If they watched the results, they might realize that they are sponsoring the losers. Sending more players to the MLG than anybody else, still not getting results.

Well, we don't need to continue this discussion. I would be just sad if Stephano joins them.

I think most of EG's SC2 brand relies on Incontrol and Idra, who are both quite strong personality. They aren't at the very top right now from a result point of view, but Idra's stream has many thousand viewers whenever he streams and the various talk shows they do are very appreciated. From a sponsor point of view, that's very interesting.

There aren't exactly a breadth of players who join EG and show improving results, though, are there?

Really disappointed I have to admit. EG have an absolutely terrible track record with talent. They take them in, and then they break them. They just don't do "maintain/improve this player".

Now with Stephano joining the failure-producing EG machine too...ugh. Goodbye foreign hope. Had such high hopes for him for Code S too

Perhaps I'm wrong, still it feels like they all declined massivly.

Only if you are only looking at a list of achievements without taking any context into consideration. Some where overhyped, some just didn't improve, some had other obvious reasons for the decline that have no connection to them being on EG, some haven't had much chance to prove themselves and some have been reasonable successful. There's only a massive decline in your head and much of it have little to do with the fact that they are signed with EG. It has become a self fulfilling profecy at this point. People take any failure from an EG player and and attribute it to them being on EG. You can also do a test and compare it to other big foreign (and several korean) teams and look how players have evolved before and after signing with a team. There's not much difference from EG's players other than EG being a more high-profile team, making them an easy target for these sort of weird discussions.

The only way there's a massive decline is if you count performance for the dollar which might be true but very strange view of things since we live in the real world where onces performance is not proportional to the amount of money you earn.

I was sure like 6month ago that, he would leave Millenium (easy one) and that he might joint EG.

It would be a nice recruit.. finally having an international lvl zerg player (hehe).

I can understand all the "another player down the shitter" comments. Thorzain didn't exactly improve under EG. Nor did JYP. I don't remember the last time I saw an EG player win a major tournament or make it to the finals of GSL. But I guess go where the money is right?

It seems every player EG brings in isn't very well thought over, they just ask "who is doing well right now?". I don't think they would care which race, what personality that player has or how would that player would blend in to the team, rather than can we give this guy a can of monster and earn big bucks off them while he streams. It's true that EG aren't doing particularly well in terms of tournament results, and especially their bigger players are producing bad results, so maybe that's why they "need" Stephano, but I don't like how they are buying foreigners out like this. The foreign scene is unbelievably stagnant with what seems to be dominated by two teams, EG and Liquid. My interest in the foreign scene has disappeared now as teams like Mill, Quantic, Mouz, Dignitas are unable to hold onto their star players, that what makes the Korean scene much, much more interesting when their are multiple teams which multiple players with a lot of talent which makes it much more competitive.

Huh ? Best offer is subjective. If his choice won't make him grow as a player, i don't see why people would keep rooting for him as a player.

That's funny because EG gives it's players a ton of resources to improve as players and takes them all over the world. The only possible thing that could be a negative playing wise of being on EG is having to do sponsor type work which might give you less practice time. But considering Stephano isnt the type to do 12 hour days I'd guess it wouldnt hurt him.

Hmmm, Stephano to SK sounds lots more sensible to me.

He doesn't seem interested in his team, neither in his teammates (as we saw during the Mille period: never practicing with his teammates, never getting that implicated in the team leagues, ...).
He only needs a sponsor, and joining SK would be much more sensible (well, SK is not only a sponsor but acts like one) for him i guess. As for MC.

My 2 cents.
