Day9 should use this on his dailies

This looks really cool and professional.

Of course it's not something you're going to use in the heat of battle, or at all without pausing, but for map and specific replay analysis, as the video explains.

For live gameplay and analysis, I don't see it working too well, but for something like the day9 dailies or other replay analysis, I think it's a good tool

Well, I'm excited. Can't wait to see this pop into replay analysis, or else be used during the early stages of a game.

Seems like it could be useful during those periods of down time when players are building up/no fights are coming.

For example. "It wouldn't surprise me to see drops along these routes" followed by a quick couple of arrows. It wouldn't be something you'd see used throughout the game, but much like telestrators in a football game, it would give some interesting things to do during downtime (in football this is in between plays, in SC2 it would be while players are macroing up and no battles are imminent).
You'll never get better being an angry nerd sitting alone in your room.

I could see this being used really well alongside the recent NASL's use of instant replay. The way the replays are done I think you'd need someone drawing the designs while the event happens, but it'd be a good way to show action normally, then replay with some strategic overviews to illustrate a point.

What it needs though is some form of hotkey support (if it doesn't have it) so you can draw without bringing up the big menu.

There are also some things you could do with the full sized map where you could cut to it when it already has some arrows drawn on it so a caster can quickly illustrate a point then go back to the game.

You can already make custom maps that have better functionality than this, since it applies directly to the terrain instead of just on the screen overlay. Considering how fast-paced SC2 is, I think screen overlay writing would have limited usefulness since the camera would need to remain in one place. Only in replay analysis or commentary would it be OK. That said, it's still a useful tool. I'm personally surprised I haven't seen people using tools like this previously — ones that aren't designed specifically for SC.

They could have really used that in the MLG Arena where they had the specialts analyze the game afterwards. Maybe in the next MLG will we see it used? Who knows. Defintly a good idea though.

Fantastic tool even if it's still in production. I'd use it myself, if not for casting, then to analyze replays and see if I guess players' moves correctly

This is great. Something SCII casting fails at across the board is explaining maps, tactics and strategy in a way non-players can understand. This could really help.

Looks like this may be a major part of new age sc2 casting, I like it, it allows for better analysis and casters thoughts to be expressed.!

Will be hard to do during games in real time but after gane analysis should be cool and help viewers understand the game better. Cant wait to see it live

Have to ask these questions. Does it actually work for replays since this is a custom map right? Can it actually be used as some kind of mod when you are a spectator of a game?
You can add it to a tournament map and make it usuable but I don't know how preferable that is. Could easily create issues.
Why would it need 6 different colors? The most important function is the ability of pointing out things you are talking about. This can be done with one color so 2 would be more than fine. Then it becomes easier to add the much needed hotkeys. Going over and clicking should not be acceptable.
Hope this helps push the tool since it's something everyone has thought up since beta, yet it never came.

In addition, a while back there was a video released which was an application to blizzard where someone talks about some possible features of the interface. It was met with much criticism because what was provided was simply an elaborate presentation of the ideas, not an in depth way of functionality.
Strange as it may be, I think I recognize that voice and assume this is the same guy.
Because the combination of the features, the way it's worked out and presenting it in one of the earliest stages share similarities.

I know I'm being harsh and possibly intolerant but if this cannot be made workable outside a custom map the value is questionable. Either I''m completely wrong or it's the subscript in the title that's added because it's in the spotlight. I feel that subscript implies that this is usuable for cast which I believe it is not.
Final note. I notice I'm making the assumption that it's only legit when used during a live game or replay. The argument can be made that an empty map can be used as a segment, like an introduction. However that only requires a picture and minor video editing or simply drawing with paint to accomplish. Limiting to that use, I again will question the value.

this is an overlay, so it's compatible with every map.
You don't need the colors, but as soon as hotkeys are implemented, why not have them?
I don't think this has anything to do with the blizzard feature.
Questioning the value is fine, but why? nobody has to use it, it's just a tool that can be used by casters if they want. again, it's just an overlay, so it doesn't really matter, i'm just wondering what you have against the initiative, given that it's just a third party program. Actual input would be more helpful.

wow this is a really useful tool.
I can already see Day9 drawing away on his dailies, while it would also be good for tournements when they discuss a game afterwards (like MLG does in their arena's).

A cool adition were markings that vanish after a short time. So a caster / the guy who moves the mouse could make markings like a drop on the minimap or a small squad of zerglings that moves at the border of the map without showing it directly... Like a descreet version of a ping
