Contray to popular belief, despite the cash cow that's World of Warcraft Blizzard doesn't has an endless amounts of resources to work with when developing a game. I'm sure those things crossed Blizzard's mind during developement but their priority were elsewhere. The game engine, building the framework of battle.net 2.0, not only for SC2 but for World of Warcraft and Diablo 3. I think most of the work went into the game engine and made sure you can actually play it. They also probably looked at Battle.net 1.0 and saw what people were actually using things for, they initially scrapped chat channels in battle.net 2.0 because they found that chat channels in the first one were dominated of spammers and the like which isn't ideal. It was a bad idea to remove chat channels but I can understand their thought process. They probably went over all the stuff and cut things that they thought would speed up developement time by quite a bit. (remember, SC2 was in developement for ages). I also think that after WoW Blizzard kind of forgot that what works for a MMO doesn't always work for an RTS. (The lack of Global play) for example. Although Blizzard made some terrible decisions not including some crucial things It's probably not because of some marketing scheme. They prefer had all that stuff at launch and for HoTs come with actual new exciting changes to Battle.net instead of these overdue things.

Also, this new matching thing will kill the ladder so I don't like it.

If only someone could've invented a machine to read minds we could just make a perfect product in the first place! Nah, they are holding back on purpose. All of these features have been in since 2007. You heard it here first. I have a leaked Excel sheet. It even has a "> ![]()

Still no LAN. Yes all these things are great, but with the exception of maybe multiplayer replay viewing...i cant imagine it should have taken more than a matter of weeks to hack that stuff together. I thought blizzard used to be all about getting it right before releasing their products. Oh well, I guess im the sucker that thought this stuff would be implemented shortly after the release of WOL.

These functions aren't something that you should get in an expansion, they are easy to implement and should've been patched into the game as soon as Blizzard realized people's demand for them (which should've been back in the beta of 2010). I used to be happy to help fund Blizzard. Now I consider them a scourge of the gaming market, a company who's ideals must be fought for the sake of us gamers - and the only way a customer can fight is with his wallet. It likely won't require the expansion. But you'll get it anyway. So why whine about it.

1) They add the occasional new feature asap during live release, and risk breaking other things and having to take down b.net for a while, inducing untold forum nerd rage. Testing is really hard 'cause barely anyone wants to play a PTR. 2) They wait until HotS when lots of people can beta test and get flamed by people saying they're trying to farm money from customers and that it's been too long a wait. All that aside: most features can be programmed in relatively simply, and I'm sure Blizzard could've "hacked in" (I mean hack in the proper programming sense) solutions for things like clan support. But trying to do things quickly like that can leave you with problems in the future; it can leave you open to situations where you realise to make future feature x work properly, you're going to have to go back and rewrite the "quick fix" code you wrote earlier because it doesn't play nice with the rest of the system, which would obviously be a massive waste of time invested. Trying to add these kinds of new features to a live system like b.net is going to be really hard. Waiting until beta (where a couple of days' downtime now and then is totally expected) is smart. I would've liked some of these features sooner, but I can certainly understand why Blizz have waited for an expansion. As such, I'm just happy they've been finally announced.

The ladder will be more meaningful knowing people there want to actually be there and compete and do care about their ranking. Suddenly the ladder is a lot more meaningful than today in terms of competition.
