yeah right and thats why pirates have lan and we don't....anyone who pirates sc or any other mp based game is doing it for the sp. and the no lan mode does not prevent them for doing that. its all about control.

Wow a lot of people in here feel extremely entitled.

You wonder why Blizzard insists on not putting that in, especially when they had it for BW. LAN is been saved for LotV. and everyone will react the same way as this. ridiculous how we must pay for functions that should have been free or patched up.
Keeping LAN out is kinda necessary as the PC community is laden with pirates who would abuse the shit out of the function. This resume from replay thing will fix the issue at hand.

No, I mean for real before the end of 2012. The Beta is going to be released next month.

Lan is a waste of time when they can work on resume from replays.

Well by praising Blizzard for this you're validating their business model which is: Take a way features while ignoring backlash and putting a few token 'additions', and then re-add them in the future when the backlash has died down and be praised. I dunno, I'm seeing people waiting to throw money at Blizzard and can't help but be amused.

Its not entitled when we'er going to have to pay for the privilege of them providing standard features they removed. I'm happy their putting this stuff back in, but lets not get ahead of ourselves here.. they held off for 2 years with a substandard product so they could attach it to the expansion so we'd have to pay for something we should have had in the first place.

Everyone who plays sc2 at any more than a casual level was going to buy hots anyway, so they are essentially patching in those features, it's not a "battlenet feature dlc" or anything like that. They have openly said they will not be adding LAN to Starcraft... Thats why they are doing the fix through replay thing because they want people playing on BNET2.0... And I most people are switching to HotS anyway and WoL will cease to be relevant... And you're not paying for this you're paying for a new campaign and new units etc.

Well done? Blizzard rocks? Blizz no:1
Guys seriously. WoL should had these "new" features. These aren't new. These features already used at BW, W3 and other games. They didn't put it into WoL and they forced us to buy HotS. So I agree with Zephyr.
But I agree. This is a marketing strategy and they really did their job well.

Why are people excited by this?
Multi language support? Viewing replays with friends? Clan support? These are features for an expansion..? are you fucking kidding me? All of these should have been in the original game, not an expansion.

Huh? I didn't say that piracy didn't exist with SC2, I just said that it minimizes the number of people pirating it because it doesn't let them do any multiplayer at all.

It's amazing how much complaining there is in this thread. The game costs the same as every other single player game, but Blizzard continues to update the game for free, and likely will continue to do so at no cost to the users. It's not a subscription service like WoW or an microtransaction based game like LoL that continues to bring high income in every month.

With one announcement, Blizzard went from the devil to, basically, Jesus Christ. These are great announcements but doesn't take away from the fact that WoL was disappointing in many regards when it was released and still is in many ways. However, this does make me a lot more optimistic about the future of SC2.
Also, don't ever give us LAN, gamers need something to complain about, always :D
I'm curious what they will do with my multiple SC2 licences tied to one account once Global Play is implemented, basically actually having a choice at the Character Selection screen?
|
Honestly - i don't think their sales projections for HotS are very optimistic. I think they're relying on the Korean game switch to have a bigger impact on games purchases than it realistically will.
Hope playerbase retention will be better with the expansion, guess their big hope for the casual segment is Blizz.DotA

Except for the latency, even in BW playing over Bnet had a minimum amount of latency to try ensure a more consistent experience, but when you played on Lan it was removed and your latency was only as bad as the connection between you so you got a snappier game in the best case.

This should have been in from the start. Still, happy it is getting put in finally.

I feel like blizzard is going to add in LAN after Legacy of the Void, after they've squeezed every possible penny out of this thing. Then they'll be like "Hey, look at how we listen to you, here's LAN yay!" Blizzard makes great games, but you can see why them and Activision get along so well. It's all about the $$$
