Dunno if this is hard to implement, but it would be nice if the MMR stats tool could tell you when new versions are released. I've been playing with a MMRstats that's two versions old and had no idea, in fact there's no way to even tell what version you have by looking at the tool in SC2gears.

Anyway I'm very glad to see the new version has HotS support, thanks to the MMRstats team for creating and updating it!

It has had this functionality for a long time (~fall 2012?). When a new version is published, a big button 'Download new version' appears on the top toolbar. Not sure how you have not noticed it? If you would have blocked sc2gears & MMR tool from accessing data from the internet, you would not have match data from the web profiles. So that probably is not the reason.

When you open the main log (third button from left on top toolbar) it tells you the version of the tool. It also tells in those logs, if it cannot access information from the web.

I wish I could go back to the version I was using 2 hours ago to see how I could miss something that obvious, or find out whether it wasn't appearing on mine due to a bug, or what. I have missed obvious things in front of my face before... but I was looking specifically at the buttons and trying to find out what version I had... I dunno.

Great to hear that it has that functionality though. BTW only took me 2 games to get my MMR graph showing, that seems to be improving as well.

Just don't trust the new graph too much. Calculation uses offset values from the last season. It likely takes couple of weeks to collect enough data to be able to calculate new offsets (when new offsets are published also old S12 calculations are automatically corrected). But it should still give good relational values when you play against people from your own league.

Maybe the option of turning off the memory reader should be removed. This tool doesn't work well without it, and the option seems to cause confusion and problems. Just put a disclaimer on the download page instead.

Potential fix would be add a popup for new users that suggests turning memory reader on and explains what is does & how it offers much better MMR data. The decision should always be user's decision.

Added mockup of 'Getting Started' screen to be added to future version of the tool to original post.

So if it says your 80 points above the minimum line for your league based on old offsets then your 80 above the true offset? Or do you mean relational in terms of high-medium-low <league>

Don't think about the lines. Relational MMR points - there are no offsets when you get a 'good game' against other people from your league.

Two questions:

1. I have to enable the plugin every time I reboot my computer (sc2gears is in my start up folder and auto opens on restart). Is there a way to fix this? I can see myself forgetting to enable the plugin after a restart and would prefer to avoid having to enable the plugin every restart.

2. I know your promotional lines are off this season. However, do your lines generally target the MMR at which most people promote, the MMR at which most people demote, or something in between. Based on my understanding, the uncertainty or sigma variable makes it harder to people to promote or demote outside a placement match. Thus, on average, the promotion threshold would be higher than a demotion threshold. Which of these thresholds does your promotion line try to approximate?

Thanks!

Godwrath, I kept track of 132 games and this one game had that huge 230 mmr point dip xD. I've been running the mmr stats plugin before it worked for hots to collect the data and possibly help as much as possible so I've collected quite a few games =).

'Config' from top tool bar > 'Data' tab > 'Mark assumptions / bad Games'. I probably should set that value as default in some future version of the tool...

2 games out of 132 is low amount. Of course most of those games were probably played with old version of the tool (all set to 'bad'). If you are not using memory reader, it would dramatically increase chances to get 'good games' (See question ' What is a pre-requisite to be able get a 'good game' (a game from which user's MMR can be calculated). What is the difference if memory reader is on vs off?' from original post. The memory reader is optional as it is against the ToS even if is not feasible for Blizzard to detect it & only fetches the player names and IDs from memory.

I have had memory reader on this whole time, actually. I just thought this was normal. I've probably played 30 or so games, but still only 4 of them are "good" games. Why are my good games so low? Hmmmm...

Where is the file that stores the games db and all of our mmr calculations after each game? I'd like to symlink it into Dropbox so that I can have the same information show up between my two computers. Is that possible?

Try looking for "Save settings now" in sc2gears after you enabled the plugin. I think that will solve your problem.

1) Could it be that your sc2gears does not have enough rights to write the new settings to the disk at that location? Or you have not saved the settings (see the previous poster).

2) Blizzard changed both their promotion & demotion algorithms in start of season 9 when they removed skill tiers from the leagues. The exact details how their moving average works is unknown. Blizzard's league borders are static values (exception gm border is dynamic). Barriers in the tool present the league border. In last few seasons we have set the promotion barriers exactly the same as offsets in the tool. After MMR passes the border it still needs to stabilize into that league range. It usually took 5 to 15 (usually 5 to 10) matches after league barrier was overtaken (and not dropped under the border in those matches + not only winning) to get promoted in the last season. The current demotion method is unknown. It is much harder to get demoted nowadays than promoted. Blizzard's current promotion methods seems straightforward. Get over the league border & stay there for some matches for MMR to stabilize for that league.

But Blizzard has clearly changed the offsets for this season. Now as the conversion is ready, I finally had actually time to play the game. I played my personal placements & in 26 games progressed from plat to master on EU server. For only 4 games (+ all 5 placements as all opponents were also playing their placements) the MMR could not be calculated & for 15 it could. But the graph had serious spiking as I played against opponents from 3 different leagues all the time. --> Offsets need adjustment. Don't trust the current graphs.

The data from your opponent's has not been suitable for calculating MMRs. You might be in the capping zone (low MMR range of some league, which in this case would be diam). If you are there, then you get 'good games' only seldom (would be very rare if had mem reader off). The visible ranks do not matter regarding MMR. You could belong to lower league according to MMR & still be in top 8 in some upper league divisions. But as said. The offsets need adjustment -> do not trust the graphs until we can calculate & publish new offsets.

Data files are stored under:
[PATH_TO]\Sc2gears\User content\Plugin file cache\mmr.plugin.MMRPlugin\

games_i.data contains matches
games.arch contains archive
client.data contains settings

Unranked detection is not 100%. No fields containing unranked/ranked information has been found from replay files. We do the detection based on web profiles. If the profiles are not available or the data has other problems we set the match to ranked. Also as very short matches (less than 30 sec) have false positive risk due web profile updates (sometimes not updating fast enough, sometimes updating faster), we set matches under 30 sec (41.4 Blizzard seconds) ranked. If you get unranked matches recorded, please remove them manually.

Correction? What do you mean? Memory reader is optional (it does not activate unless the user enables it). Also it only reads memory & changes nothing. You most likely have also other processes that read SC2 memory, like virus scanners etc. No one has got banned for using it and unlikely ever will. But decision to use or not to use the memory reader has been left to the user. There is no other way to get player names & ID:s in the beginning of match than read them from memory. Many other tools also read that information (e.g. multiple streaming tools). Difference is that MMR tool gives you chance to choose. Some of the other tools don't even tell they read the memory. Some tell if the user manages to find that section from some readme files etc.

I hope this is not the case that I am actually LOW diamond lol. I thought that Blizzard taking away the skill tiers in divisions meant that if I am rank 2 dia then I am top 2% of diamond according to blizzard (http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/blog/7157308). I guess I will have to wait until my MMR gets out of this "capping zone" then... But I think it also might be something wrong with my computer since ram.exe wasn't working in the first place.

Might there be something on my end that might cause the problem?

That Blizzard's article is misleading (possibly on purpose or oversimplified for masses). It is just marketing text. How you place in your division depends on luck who others are there and how much ladder points you have. And that does not tell what your MMR is and in what MMR range it belongs.

That skill tier removal thought made the adjusted points comparable inside each league. Thought the adjusted points do not always represent your MMR for multiple reasons (for example after each promotion your adjusted points are always set to 73. It takes some time for it to rise/decrease to typical level). Also removal of the skill tiers made the calculations a lot simpler regarding MMR tool. It does not need complicated algorithms to determine players hidden skill tiers anymore.

Ahhh okay. Well I guess the world is just learning faster than I am cause I used to always play masters and now it's not so often =(((.

But, I only get "good games" after losses. I think they are losses where the opponent has no bonus pool as you mentioned. So, could there be a problem with the ram.exe program for me? I never get any "good games" the graph is all over the place when it does find a good game. Sometimes I lose and the graph shoots way up, sometimes it shoots way down. It's always a huge change though.

You could try turning memory scanner off?

I'm not sure memory scanner gives me problems too...

I get the same sort of graph. And it looks like you are getting a very low amount of "good games" too. Is your memory scanner on?

Mine is on but I havea about the same percentage of "good games".

League distribution has changed since WoL so you shouldn't pay too much attention to the lines.

You can check from the logs if there is something wrong regarding the memory reader. It e.g. inputs this kind of lines to the Game Log in start of each match:

5:23:22 Ramscanner: id1 : 1-123456
5:23:22 Ramscanner: name2 : YYYYYY

happens this everygame

You use Mac. Memory reader & Windows registry reader do not support mac. Thus they are automatically disabled. Match start is detected by the APM values that the SC2 inputs to Win registry. This means that the pre-trigger is not run for mac. --> no pre-game data.

This log line is caused by a bug (harmless bug thought):
21:54:19 ERROR: preplayer data is for wrong character. Setting pregame data invalid

It tries to find player's character from the pre-game profiles. But as both pre-game profiles are blank it does not find it. But the blank profiles were set bad to begin with so everything goes as planned, except the wrong error message. Will fix this for next release, but program behavior does not change except you get appropriate error message (or no error message at all at that point):

But as you don't have memory reader (as Mac not supported), it is possible to calculate the change points for the opponent only if he wins & has bonus pool left. From those matches it is possible to calculate your MMR if multiple other requirements are also met.

Mac is not supported for mem scanner.

i am diamond...but this ... graph...

Like the others said league offsets & promotion lines changed for this season & new ones have not yet been calculated. The calculations will be fixed automatically when new values are found & published.

Please disable the 'mov avg' setting at this point. It hides possible spikes in the graph (there are not any yet in your graph as you only have 1 good game).

Also note that I disabled the moving avg calculation for the opponent in last release. Opponents value may change a lot from game to game (& opponents are usually different) + there are often lots of filler values for opponents (which would also be taken into account in moving average calculation) --> Showing the 'true' values for opponent gives more information than their moving average (or redesigning moving average calculation for opponents in some way, but not necessarily worth the effort).

But you have only one good game. If you have memory reader disabled please consider enabling it. Without it only if opponent wins & has bonus pool left it is possible to calculate your MMR _IF_ multiple other requirements are met too. With memory reader on, your MMR could be calculated potentially from every match if the other requirements are also met.

Actually you can see the effect from your graph. When memory reader is off the tool can still fetch your pre-game data based on your profile name. Opponent's MMR is calculated from your data. MMR for all those white opponent dots could be calculated. If mem reader was on, your MMR could likely be calculated in somewhat same frequency as opponent's MMR.
