Forget piracy, it's all about Blizzard being able to track tournaments and make sure they get their cut.
I really think this is the real reason...

Why can't they raise the cap for attempted connections from a single IP before blacklisting? That would solve the problem. ddos -.-

What a sensationalist title... It's pretty obvious that the blacklisting is something that goes off automatically, even Blizzard EU Invitational last year got blacklisted. It's clearly something they don't have controlled. It's a mistake on their part to have such a system, yes, but it's obviously unintentional.

A simple DoS should have a higher limit than 10's of connections though, that number shouldn't be able to hurt the bnet backbone.
They really need to look over this part of their protection, it's catching too many legit users.

Play BW if you want LAN
I can actually imagine Browder say this.

Lower your expectations of blizzard, they aren't as good a company as their games make them out to be. This is a half truth. Their games are great, their service is horrendous. People on blizzard games are SPOILED.
I wish my favorite rts games (cnc) got a quarter of this ''horrendous service'' blizzard is giving to their games.
Ps blizzard keeping tabs on ALL tournaments is good as well... less scammers that way.
Al tho i do agree that something like a few friends having a tournament or w/e should be perfectly fine (if it isn't right now).

I mean battle.net sucks, its a regress from the old 1998 battle.net, the gameplay is worse than Brood War, the campaign was worse compared to Brood War and the support hasn't been there at all.
Blizzard should put in LAN else people shouldn't buy their games anymore and that's the story.
They've used and abused the fan base enough already and have become from one of the best and friendlier companies around to one of the worst and evil companies out there. Blizzard right now are the EA of 10 years ago. It shocks me why people would buy HOTS with so many issues revolving around WOL, including their shitty chat system, interface, etc. I for sure will not be buying it until they fix these problems. I'm not buying it either and not buying D3 either. In fact I may even download it from the internet just because they've been so arrogant and so corrupt. haha, sorry but that is simply pathetic. "blablabla bad game, i don't support it! I will play it tough trough illigal means" You are actually giving blizzard more ammo rather then doing an\ything whatsoever to help.

Wow that is so lame. Why would they blacklist because there are so many people connecting on the same IP. What wrong can someone do to them. I don't understand. They are sure making it hard for people organizing something like a Lan tournament this way. But maybe this was a one time thing. They forgot or they messed up. Couldn't they call blizzard to make it undone so that the tournament could have continued.
|
To be honest, this is known very well... I would definitely give Blizzard a call about 3 hours before the start to make sure. Even tell them that it's not working (even when it still is) to give them a couple of hours to fix it. So I guess expecting everything to work out just fine is kind of a fault on your side.

I changed the title to something less sensationalist because naming your thread how blizzard ruined something is really out there.

Every day that passes blizzard is really proving their own incompetency. I just don't get it, they used to be superb in all these kind of things, but either WoW or Activision seems to just have crushed their will of doing anything 'extra'(extra in this case would be not having a ridiculous black list on people connecting from same IP... I don't even understand why they feel they need that seeing as everyone needs their own account anyway, and if it's a tourney that should be paying them, they can surely just blacklist them for future events...)

so help me out here quickly because i dont understand some stuff regarding tech:
1. What does mean "whitelist a IP"??? what is the main aim for this?
2. Is it possible for blizzard to do pull off such things with IP adress?
p.s.: so far i understood that the event organization asked Blizzard for one IP adress from BN (?!?!)
anyway it still sucks when people are already there and cant play :/
|
im sorry but i dont understand what the point of shutting down these people was? If they all have their own legitimate accounts, what does it matter if they are all at the same place connecting to bnet? Im a little confused

Blizzard seems to have some system that automatically blocks an IP address if too many connections are coming from it. In regard to point 2, yes this is possible.
A 'whitelist' is a list of IP's that are exempt from the automatic bans. In some situations this is desired, for example when big LAN's take place. A LAN event must ask Blizzard to add their IP to the list, so that they don't get automatically banned.

I don't (and won't) go to r/starcraft. Anyone want to give the whole story? The OP was a bit lacking.
