If they applied that same sort of principle, it would no longer affect workers and solve the problem.
Although I really don't care what units make it in to be honest, I'm just excited for a new game. There were enough other problems with the shredder to justify it's removal than the mineral line drop abuse. For example it was pretty much useless outside of the TvZ matchup because of its short range. and in TvZ stacking 3 of them on a choke made it invulnerable to all attack pre-broodlord (because hydras are still useless as well)
Last I checked in the mod, roaches and hydras had no problem clearing them out with their higher HP/range.

This gives the protoss army some real reach to force an engagement on their terms in the end-game.
This makes my mind blead

Ya know, i am starting to feel that blizzard is just lazy alot of the time. Instead of trying to fix an EXISITING unit, they cram the carrier into the trash and try to fix a NEW unit that they had come up with... this doesn't even make logical sense imo why do they not try to fix the carrier instead of giving protoss an entirely new unit with much more balance issues than the carrier?

New Tempest = Colossus without legs?

hahaha I cant believe they havnt yet scraped nexus recall. I am gonna do some reallllllllly annoying builds if that comes out on day 1 of HOTS. no doubt it will be removed eventually. Protoss just gets a free scroll of town portal for every nexus with 75 energy or w/e? totally insane, I hope I get to use it.

Who says the new unit has "much more" balance issues than the carrier? Have you played with the tempest? Do you work for blizzard? They only changed its role from anti-air splash to ground/air siege because of the new phoenix upgrade, not because it was horribly imbalanced. Bottom line is neither of those roles could ever be filled by the carrier, even if they tried to "fix" it, hence why carrier has to go.

Yay shredder is cut and overseer stays, awesome changes. Now they just need to scrap the tempest and fix carriers and we're good to go.

I really wish they would've re-designed all of Zerg from the ground up. I know it sounds like a lot to ask and undertake, but come on, the race is just so poorly designed. Too many mechanical quirks and issues, far too linear, and most of the units are boring or garbage.

"The tempest is currently a very long-ranged aerial siege weapon that can strike both air and ground targets." -Taken from the Statement
"Carriers are the largest and most expensive air unit available for Protoss. Their main advantages are their long range and high mobility. " -Taken from Liquipedia
The Carrier is supposed to be the role that the Tempest is going to in HotS, the thing is in the SC2 there too many things that are very effective against the Carrier, for example, vT: its marines and vikings, vZ its corruptors and hydralisks.
Marines are too good in SC2, since their are so effective. Corruptors, you can mass them up really easily and snipe the Carriers before they do any real damage and later turn into BroodLords.
Carriers are supposed to be that end game air unit that can target both air and ground. IMO, I think the Tempest will fail as much as the Carrier in SC2 unless it has some imbalanced damage or dps.

Amazing that after almost two years of release you guys still haven't learned the lesson that you can't predict the effects a patch will have on the game until you've tested the changes. 80% of the arguments in this thread are indistinguishable from those who said that removal of khaydarin amulet would make the HT obsolete. Smarten up.

THERE WE GO! :D
Or you could just play StarCraft 1?

Wow I'm so glad they removed the shredder and the replicant.
Nexus recall could be a bit too powerful... we'll see. The different Nydus ideas are awesome :D For the spectators at least

When you're maxed out, it's certainly going to be a big deal.

The shredder looked a bit crazy eh? Maybe they can still use it, but it seemed too effective. Make it less powerful perhaps. Seems better then going through all the time to make a unit then just remove it. Perhaps changing some of its abilities also.
|
Anyone think they are way behind in development? I mean it's not exactly a surprise, but there isn't even news of beta coming anytime remotely soon and WoL has been out for two years now. SC2 isn't WoW. By the time LotV comes out, I wonder how many people will even care.
|
But man if they could sovle the tank issue with TvT, I think TvT will instantly become the best MU. Sad the other mirror are so far behind.
|
It seems to me that rather than introducing the tempest as a late game air siege unit, the simplest change would be to significantly increase the launch range of the carrier's interceptors. Increasing their range from 8 to (something like) 14 would greatly expand P options late in the game. Make it the longest-range unit in the game, but with an unchanged scout range so that it requires the use of spotters (i.e. observers) to fully utilize them, like a siege tank. That might actually make them worth the investment in money and (especially) time. With that kind of range even a single carrier would force a response from the opponent, if only in positioning.

Considering we're apparently not gonna have Mothership to beat Infestor/BL, they better give our Nexus the ability to shoot nuclear missiles.
