good to see that blizzard statys very flexible about the units. they have stated before that anything they don't feel 100% satisfied will be cut. i think the goliathus would be a great unit to coume back, but that's like a little thor unit as well. also it might make thors completely useless as it is faster, cheaper, has high range as well and doesn't get stuck. the only disadvantage would be the lack of aoe and perhaps they would design it fragile so it can't counter banes. overall i'm glad that the replicant has been cut even though i'm very curious about the strategies being available lets say 3-5 years into the game... of course esport doesn't have the patience or time to wait that long though.
hope the guys at blzrd will keep us updated!

I really really really like the changes so far. I agree with everything, and this is clearly the right direction to go into in my opinion !!
As usual, very good job Blizzard

good changes overall imo like most people have said, terran need more mech options to make it viable...esp iv TvP (mmm is getting old)
wish there was some way to get rid of the colossi....1a splash unit that leads to production of other boring units e.g corruptor
well aslong as they keep the viper im good :D

Reminds me of the V4 rocket launcher from the red alert series, lololololol. Though I do wonder, won't this make people stop building tanks and build these instead in TvT? or would these be single target attacks, making them crappy against marines, giving us silly rock-paper-scissors nonsense between marines, tanks and these new things? I sure hope not.
That rock-paper-scissors dynamic sounds like it's exactly what they're going for with the long-range missiles. However Terran has numerous other units and options at their disposal to make it more interesting, what with battle hellions, marauder drops, banshees and point-defense drones (and still nukes).

I would give the the toss those anti - air spider mines. They could work as damage dealing forcefields casted by a spellcaster (oracle?). Toss could make rings of such protective shields around his base managing in this way the air space. Thus, muta harras would be more difficult and demanding from attacking opponent- stacking micro would be required from zerg to position his mutas correctly and navigate in such space. Toss would also be able to reduce muta count by traping careless mutas flying over his main army. I think this army "dance" - "to and fro" this ability would produce would be so fun to watch. P.S. Give battlecruser a spell of area of effect ground damage (bombing) that would be initiated by ghost (like a nuke)

yes no shredder ! but i will miss the replicant it had so maaaaany new strategy options .(

shredder shouldn't be completely scrapped, make it an ability for the ravens replacing auto turrets at least then ravens would be used.

Well, just stop BW vs SC2 altogether. There's nothing constructive about it.

Funny thing, when SC2 haters open threads, half of the discussion is always about how the superior SC2 AI and the superior SC2 controlabilities have taken out so much "micro". But when someone says that in BW you had to fight the AI a lot more (with a lot less potent tools) and one can see that, even sometimes in progames where it becomes a deciding factor (weird unit movements, bad rally points & reinforcing, macro slips, idle workers...), then suddenly you have to explain it.

Take the opportunity of a new expansion to implement the 6m1g (or even 6m2g, with slightly lower gas income). Take care of all those 1 base all-ins (and even 2 bases) that make the game what it sadly is right now. Make it more dynamic, force the players to play on more bases, raise the population cap to 250 or so (a good macro player gets 80+ workers... almost half of the total population he's allowed to have). way more testing has to be done, especially among the prolevel to see if it even does what it should do. Why did they even change it? Vultures had more uses and required more skill than helions because spider mines would be broken with clumping and the pure mineral cost of vultures; also everything required "more skill" in BW, because the AI was terrible. Doesn't mean that it would require more skill in SC2. They bother, because the lurker was not being played when it was in the game and it was the last unit to be removed, not because they didn't want it, but because it had no use in SC2. Not to mention that the swarm host is a completly different unit. People keep on comparing it with lurkes because it does something while burrowed... The host is a longrange artillery that needs support, the lurker was a midrange (the SC2 version in the lategame also a longrange, but not as long as swarm host), powerful combat unit. In BW, spellcasters were practically useless without an upgrade of some kind. More upgrades require an higher investment in the tech tree the player is deciding to go for, and this is what this game needs. depends; if you do mineral only upgrades, it is basically the same idea as barrins (taking money out of the game), if you do it with the standard (for SC2 and BW) gasheavy costs, you just limit the game to more lowtier units. (--> one factor why Ravens are not being used a lot, is the amount of passive costs that come with it in the form of upgrades, techlabs and starports needed for them) Show nested quote +On April 12 2012 16:24 Patate wrote: I'm not saying I want SC2 to be BW, but just watch a BW game and then watch a SC2 game.... BW games generally do NOT end with one big fight. They require movement and map domination. They force the player to make the other one starve as all his bases run out of ressources, and apart from SC2's TvT, I rarely see those situations. I did, I still prefer a good SC2 game. I like how SC2 is about fighting your opponent, while BW is about fighting the AI to fight your opponent. Saying spider mines would be broken cuz of clumping is like saying banelings and baneling bombs are broken too. But in your mind they aren't because you are zerg and biased.

"We are still experimenting with a wide range of units, particularly from the factory, which we think is a little light on options." that gives me hope

You know nothing about BW, and have clearly never played the game to higher than a D-- level. A blatantly inflammatory comment based on nothing but false logic, and possibly a shred of bitterness that you always sucked so hard at it. Log onto Fish and I'll trash you without thinking about the AI once.
As for the OP, I think a relevant point was made early on in the thread- task-specific units are really not what the game needs to bring more dimensions and possibilities. I feel like Blizz are having a really hard time on the creativity front here.

I have no freakin idea how this is going to turn out for the game but I just love the fact they are willing to try stuff and toy with adding / removing units and spells.
