Blizzard special tactics: Makes horrible expansion to set extremely low expectations

Releases slightly less horrible update wins over hearts of fans

I'm concerned that the Viper's "blind" spell is pointless.

It would have been very helpful to break entrenched positions and to help Z engage Protoss armies. Now that it only works on bio units I don't see the point - wouldn't you rather have infestors against bio?

Doesn't it make Terran bio somewhat... worthless? It's a mass optical flare right?

From my understanding, it was both sight and firing range. Optical Flare was just sight I think. If it is what I thought it to be, I don't really see that going into release. It makes any ranged unit that gets hit by it essentially useless, and Protoss needs that range to be able to fight Zerg.

It creates a cloud that you can just move out of...it's not permanent. See disruption web. It also only affects bio, so Protoss will be unaffected except for the case of high templar underneath the cloud.

LOL so it really is Dark Swarm but range reduced to 1 instead of 0? GG Blizzard the jig is up

No, it's not Dark Swarm. Dark Swarm makes units under the swarm immune to ranged attacks, but vulnerable to splash damage. Like I said, see Disruption Web.

I don't personally see a huge difference, if say, a Terran player had Dark Swarm or this new spell cast on their bio army, the only difference is that Terran wouldn't be able to fire until within 1 range instead of being completely negated. That's pretty ridiculous when combined with recharging energy from minerals and fungals from Infestors.

If T has an effective way to kill them (vikings could serve this purpose, esp since zerg doesn't really have anit-air) then it would be very similar to swarm vs irradiate, which was both awesome and very balanced.

Protoss needs the tempest. Still no hard counter to mass mutas. Range phoenixes aren't practical as large numbers of them can't do much else and the tech switch takes time.

I seriously don't know why people keep repeating this.

The battle hellion alone is a change 100% tailored to change the TvP match-up.

Surprisingly the unit I hate the most from what I have seen in Heart of the Swarm is the Swarm Host. It just seems like a shitty unit. I guess I just want my lurkers back,

It's because Terran's have been begging for mech viability in TvP. If blizzard changes anything about Terran in HoTS, it has to be that.

If only people had to take enough bases to make it actually useful.

Well we are moving in that direction slowly. As long as people can correctly read and counter all the two base pushes reliably which should happen at some point more bases is inevitable.

Sweet! The Viper sounds more and more like a neo-defiler. Now with it's "consume" like ability of consuming minerals for energy, quite like how consume worked for defilers which killed your own units for energy.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Barrin, you and your 6 min patches

I don't disagree, but it would involve rebalancing everything in the game. You'd need a major expansion or something to do that.

I am honestly quite dissapointed in the changes, I don't like the idea of removing the shredder completely and going with anti air mines. Terran, especially mech Terran needs better board control for some of these bigger maps. Just give us regular spider mines already. Just to clarify, I agree the shredder was a bad unit, but removing the idea of ground board control completely seems goofy. But then again they did say Terrran was the focus now.

But I am not really sure why they don't like the warhound, in theory it sounds like a great unit. It has mechanical DPS so you can actually mech TvP, and it allows mutas to be more effective lategame, and less effective early game which is the exact problem the thor creates of to much splash. I think blizzard is trying to hard to make a new unit and not realizing they already have a good one, it just needed to be downsized.

I don't really know what to think of the long ranged missile launcher, it just sounds silly.

I can see how the new tempest could be great for broodlord fights, but not sure about how it fits.

I don't like how they kept mass recall on the nexus either. Toss already has force fields to prevent bad engagements it doesn't want (see parting's FF usage). Why are they adding a mechanic that is so forgiving to the game, it just seems dumb.

I am also surprised burrowed moving banelings and ultralisk charge were not mentioned, I was sure they would be taken out. I might be stretching an idea to much, but I feel those two combined with this disruption web spell, could make Terran biomech rather impossible for TvZ. I just don't see how a Terran biomech can survive against that, currently Zerg's go for Infestor, Blord, corrupter and then transition to mass ultras. If you pummeled your opponent with Disruption web, Fungal and burrowed ultras seems to much.

Glad the oracle is still in, its an amazingly well designed unit. Also seems as if the battle hellion is still around which is great for meching players.

I am just worried that the game is becoming to much about spellcasters. Toss are beginning to use Templars more than Collosus, Zerg are using Infestor instead of mutas. Now their is discussion on a Terran missile caster. An almost confirmed zerg 2nd caster....Just seems silly when you win battles by pressing T T T or F F F F a bunch of times.

So what's the point of the tempest? And what does the tempest do that a slightly tweaked carrier couldn't? I feel like an artist designed a cool ship model and now they are doing anything they can to squeeze it into the game, lol.

It can serve a splash damage role anti-air.

It also isn't crippled by marines, which is a big problem with the carriers viability in SC2. A ball of tightly packed marines (or even hydras) just shred interceptors apart, and if you give them enough health to survive that they become OP against everything else. The interceptor just doesn't fit within the SC2 engine with a lot of damage and firepower in tighter formations, BW obviously was different.

Maybe if you were forced to make units more slowly due to less income. Hmmm...

You're giving the Swarm Host way too much credit. I would much rather have a shittier version of the Lurker over the Swarm Host. The Swarm Host literally serves no purpose other than parking it outside of the opponents base so it can spawn one beetle that is somehow more durable than a Hydralisk. Blizzard is doing a pretty poor job at making dynamic units in SC2.
