More people should read it. Especially the new comers to starcraft 2 need to know the subtle but meaningful differences that made Brood War the game that still is the best spectactor sport invented for computers. I wholeheartedly agree with these points: 1) Because of small but central game mechanics, Broodwar has a higher skill cieling. You can achieve more with your units in Broodwar. In SC2, you will never attack with less roaches/mutas etc. etc. etc. 2) A possible fix is less minerals per base. 3) Sc2 is frankly boring. It feels stale, and I stopped playing it and Im watching it less and less. ![]() The community is there for this game. I hope Activision-Blizzard will see the oppertunity to make their game stick. The skill cieling needs to rise. The game needs to become fluid and creative to play, as I would express it. The most important point, and the most interresting imo, is that the last balance patch SC1 recieved has come and gone, and the game still evolved by it self after that. How? The OP states that it was the engine. I think thats very interresting. The game might have "balanced itself" because it gave the player really good control over the game. This is part of the solution imo.

Here's a replay I played with a random dude I found in the 7m chatroom: http://drop.sc/153686 He's mid masters and I'm like high diamond so the play isn't super high level or anything, but this was instantly my most fun and interesting game I've ever played simply because of how differently it plays out in comparison to my ladder experience.

The goal, is to reward macro and APM more and promote more action and less deathballs, more back and forth, and more comebacks. The objective Barrin proposes is fewer resources per base. You may think this needs proving. That is true. We are in the beginning stages of this right now. If you think other objectives meet the stated goal, state why you think they are superior, or better yet, make a mod that tests it (EG one with tweaked or eliminated macro mechanics). You can dispute the objective, but please refrain from not offering any alternatives. Additionally, you can't really dispute the goal, as the goal is the fundamental reason BW was exciting and has been a spectator sport for a decade.

SC2 was designed to be a macro-oriented game and I hope you fail in your goal to make it otherwise. competitive simcity3000 with army as resources, that get calculated and compared each 6 minutes to see if one of the players won best. game. ever. legit esports

It's not ffs, and the goal of this isn't to raise the skill ceiling, it's to make the game focused on different things, such as more expansion management and small scale battles, not to make it harder per-say. It already is harder than it is, but this will make multi-tasking and micro management more rewarding.
