So I have to ask, I don't get how resizing chat windows is new since you can do it as is?

Wait so they are adding in a ''form'' of LAN? I don't get it, and it seems we won't get this feature til another good number of years (hots launch).

I don't think it's a LAN replacement feature. It sounds like it's just another Find Game interface that does it locally. You'll still probably have to play on Blizzard's servers.

The rest of this is just hilarious. I hope the balance notes at least have something substantial.

First, we’ll allow players to resize their chat windows to fill a larger portion of the screen. We’ll also remember the chat channel you were in as well as the position of that chat channel on your screen for when you next return to the game.

Another Find Game interface would make 0 sense, UI wise. 3 different ways to make a game? What would make more sense is having another group in your friends list, or another "friend list" listing all computers/accounts on your lan, which are discoverable", and online on bnet. They way you see them as friends.

If they do make another Find Game, they either have the technology ready for LAN after Legacy of the Void is out, or they need to hire new UI people, because that makes no sense.

I am not sure if I failed the reading comprehension, but I wonder what people here find awesome about the news; especially the contact and communication part!?

First, we’ll allow players to resize their chat windows to fill a larger portion of the screen. We’ll also remember the chat channel you were in as well as the position of that chat channel on your screen for when you next return to the game. This will allow players who want to recreate something that feels a lot more like Warcraft III or the original StarCraft to build their own interface that looks a lot like those older games.

Ok, we can resize the chat windows better and it saves their position. Nothing really huge.
Where are all the missing features, like clan channels, moderated channels, etc.? How will this increase the communication on bnet? Sorry, if I sound negative, but this sounds pointless.

It's definitely not enough but I think the idea is that if everyone is automatically put into a chat channel when they start the game then a lot more people will be using chat = more social experience. It's like when u start bw or wc3 and you are put directly into a chat where people are already talking. Now people don't use chat unless they absolutely need it but when they do they realize there's not that many people there so they leave.

To me it seems like a step in the right direction. Hopefully they build upon this to make sc2 a lot better.

Doesn't seem that big to me... You can resize chat windows to be like BNet 1.0 and they made the join game system like BNet 1.0... lol. Basically, BNet 1.0 superior in every way? :D

It's a start. They are at least acknowledging the problem, that bodes very well for HotS.

agreed, here with this patch they can at least test the waters and such, then by HoTS they can improve on all of it.

New unlockable "chat window shape" achievements. Duh.

Circle chat window.
Rhombus chat window.
Isosceles trapezoid chat window.

The possibilities are endless! :D

I don't get the big deal with this update at all.

So their idea of improvement is to... copy a FEW features in the old bnet system? Why dont they just use the entire bnet system of the olden days and just call it patch 1.6

Now they're starting to understand our irrational need for things to be like they used to, regardless of how on any functional level they are already the same :p. (Chat)

The map stuff sounds interesting. I hate almost all the maps on the top of the list that are played. Hopefully this new system will let me play some of those fun looking ones lower on the list that are always empty .

the streaming support apparantly isn't related to streaming at all but to being able to play while downloading the client ROFL

from EU forum respond

"Just to clarify, the streaming support refers to the technology of having the client already usable before all of the content of the game is downloaded. Basically you download core content and are ready to play while the rest of the content is being downloaded in the background. This is mainly interesting for players that use the Starter Edition to test the game. They won't have to wait for a long time before diving in."

Wowowow Blizzard stepping it up.

Keep at it and you might end up matching the old Bnet.
