We’re also working on a feature that will help players connect with other players and games that are near their location (connecting through the same IP). We believe this will primarily be used by people in internet gaming rooms, offices, dorm rooms, and local tournaments where you just want to find the guy sitting in the desk next to you. Although this may not be ready in time for the release of patch 1.5, we do intend to have this available by the time Heart of the Swarm ships. I don't understand. Is this LAN or is it not?

Not LAN. LAN is that a computer locally on the network can acts as a server so wirelength will be as small as possible and no internet is required. This just means you can search for other people with SC2 installed on your lan, but you will still be playing on bnet.. Hence it is easier to set up the game. It could also be semi-LAN where bnet is used to setup the game. But after the game is started everything is transfered via LAN. But that's looking on a real positive side of thing. And I think if this was the case, Blizzard would put a lot more effort into saying they fixed the lag/internet problems which happens in every lan tournament, giving them bad PR.

I don't think it's a LAN replacement feature. It sounds like it's just another Find Game interface that does it locally. You'll still probably have to play on Blizzard's servers. The rest of this is just hilarious. I hope the balance notes at least have something substantial. First, we’ll allow players to resize their chat windows to fill a larger portion of the screen. We’ll also remember the chat channel you were in as well as the position of that chat channel on your screen for when you next return to the game.

I think it will be just a simple recommended friends addon. It will find people who are located near you. Dont think it will be the solution for "lan" problem.

It can be taken as a matchmaking (connecting the players) or the game itself (connecting the clients to play with each other.) :/ I guess time will tell but I read it as a sorta b.net sees you're from the same ip and allows traffic to route between the two machines, with only results being sent back to b.net. Dare to dream anyway. It's not like it's hard to get a game with someone you know either way.
