Alex is verbose, and you owe it to yourself (and the rest of us) to read the statement in its entirety. Remember, when making comments/claims to provide proper evidence, facts etc. Arguments based on incorrect assumptions, facts and straw men, will be dealt with swiftly. If in doubt, PM a mod or ask IRC. Do NOT spread misinformation, when in doubt, check your sources. In short, be smart. He wasn't at his job when he did it - and while it is a terrible word alot of people use it that way (and shouldn't) where it isn't racist. It is the same as saying "F----" or that is so "g--" meaning bad or ghetto meaning bad - should anyone who has played starcraft 2 professional and have said one of those things in their own time while raging be terminated? This is someone job and livelyhood not some game to be played.

It's just an insult that is meant to represent someone who is a obnoxious asshole who thinks he isn't. "Faggot" represents someone who is just as annoying as a "Nigger" but doesn't care if he is or isn't an asshole. umm I know some people in the southern states of United States that still use "nigger" in its original context. Not all of the world is progressing at the same rate.

This ofc won't happen and that's because him firing orb is ALL about business and protecting EG. Orb's dream has been crushed because people made a big deal of what he said a couple of times in a LADDER game. If people hadn't made it such a big deal orb wouldn't have lied to EG and he would have gotten a slap on the wrist for his actions. This community is NO BETTER than the other gaming communities. This community is simply bad for different reasons. It is a sad day for e-sports. This community SHOULD strive to be better than it is, instead of wallowing in the cesspool of disrespectful internet culture, it should foster a new more respectful culture.

First r/starcraft witchunts have been getting out of hand lately blowing everything out of proportion first with the katu thing then with orbs situation. While something should have been done the amount of attention reddit gave it escalated the whole situation far from where it should have ended. Secondly people messaging EG's sponsors before EG even released an official statement. This is a really dick move to do, give things time to settle down before trying to ruin a business over a heated couple of days let alone without hearing what they have to say. The third thing I would like to talk about is the double standards of EG. The screen shots of orb saying "nigger" that we know for certain are true are old. They are at best a couple of months old and at least before working with EG. To my knowledge orb has not said any cuss words while casting its been the opposite of that actually he has been nothing but professional during his casts. If they do not punish any of their players for things that they have said in the past before being with EG or even things said under EG such as faggot why should they punish orb? Furthermore if they have such a strong view on language they should do more research into who they hire. Anyone who just watches orb stream or some of his tweets knows that he rages a lot with strong language. A little more research into who they are hiring could have avoided this whole thing in the first place. We should be very careful about handling these situations as community in the future if we keep handling things like we currently do we will just keep putting the whole community is a bad spotlight not just individuals.

Do you guys remember the SotG where Destiny and InControl spent 2 hours talking about how the term "nigger" became a generic insult? That was met with some controversy, but the fact is that nigger doesn't mean what it used to. Stop treating it like it does It's what people say when they rage, not when they want to insult a black guy. Same with faggot. Treating orb this way this just reinforces the stigma associated with the words, when it shouldn't even exist anymore. Orb lied. that should be the reason why you fired him, not because hes been calling people niggers and faggots since the beta. You lost a passionate caster today EG, and while you gained some fans, you lost quite a few as well. I'm not mad a EG, I understand that they needed to do this from a business standpoint to appease the masses. I find it hard to believe that nobody from EG had ever tuned into one of orbs streams before where he swears, because its rather frequent. Rather, I think that nobody from EG cared. I'm mad at the starcraft and reddit community. Nobody gives a fuck if orb calls someone a nigger on the stream. If they do, then why does destiny have free reign to do it whenever he wants to? Nobody gives a fuck if orb calls someone a faggot on his stream. If they do, then why does Idra have free reign to do it whenever he wants to? You guys helped ruin someone's life today, I hope you're happy with it. So then without the protection of your computer monitor, tomorrow, go say nigger in the real world, instead of your delusional, sheltered world. Set an example, start a revolution.

I read entire OP's post and all I could think of is how they profited by this entire situation. They were spotlighted by entire community because of Orb's mistake then they came out as heroes by selling him out - and almost EVERYONE ate it like can of Nutella...just unbelievable. This isn't a case of people hanging off Alex Garfield's dick, no matter how much you want to imply it. As I posted earlier, orb: 1) Lied about it 2) Tried to cover up the evidence (badly) 3) Kept lying about it 4) Accused people of slander while he was lying about it 5) Didn't learn from his mistakes. In order for most people to want to forgive a person, they generally have to say sorry first. He didn't. He tried to cover it up, and that started the witch-hunt with people hunting through vods to find the evidence and proving it was him. He's apologised now, but it's too late to stop him getting fired. That's his own fault. This isn't people just going wild randomly; the problem is when people brought it up and said "I'm not OK with this" he didn't react correctly. I firmly believe he could have saved his job, but he didn't. + Show Spoiler + It's actually kinda similar to the Katu situation; he fucked up, and instead of realising it kept on trucking and ended up losing his job because he didn't notice when to stop and say "oh shit, sorry."

You make this out to be some glorious feat by the community, but in reality, a kid who had a dream messed up, and got fired for it. That to me is so sad. Can you guys actually imagine how terrible Orb must be feeling? It's not like Orb was fired from the Starcraft Community. He made a mistake and he received a consequence. Isn't that how everyone learns to not mess up the next time? If Orb is as good of a caster as everyone says, he can bounce back by cleaning up his manners and continuing to cast.
