Given a mouse like this one, what hotkeys would you guys map to it as zerg? I have done a few setups, but I keep finding my keyboard to be more convenient.

As zerg, you need only one hotkey:
- Whole army in 1

When playing Starcraft you don't really need any "gimmicky" macro keys to make it easier. Mostly because they don't really help you. They pare better with FPS or MMO games etc.

I have the larger thumb button (I use a deathadder not a 518 but same thing) bound to backspace. In sc2 backspace is set to cycle between bases.

This is really good for injects and the like.

I have the forward and back buttons bound to switch between subgroups of units because I got so used to it in Warcraft 3.
It's way easier to me than tabbing between sentries/templar or different production buildings.

Not but seriously, mouse hotkeys are pretty useless. May aswell just use the keyboard.

Can't even tell what race you are...both protoss and terran have bigger 1a deathballs than Zerg.

Stalker/Sentry/Colossus and MMM are a much bigger..anyway, stop QQ'ing.

On topic: mouse hotkeys seem to cause trouble for me in SC2. With Zerg you shouldn't need any. Just use the keyboard hotkeys and the backspace trick. You should be fine.

I have the thumb button set so when I hold it I move the camera around.
Have the speed for it at 100% I actually use it once in a while for quick look around or when watching replays and having no hand on the keyboard

Dont see how using 8-9 would be better than using two mouse buttons.

As zerg I use mouse button 1 and 2 for my army. Imo you really dont want to be using 6-7-8-9 on ur keyboard unless ur using some kind of inject metod with those keys or have really big hands.

My keybinds are

§ - Creepslave
1 - Hatches
2 - Queens
3 - Army - Infestors or mutas
4 - Army - Main army
5 - Tech
Mouse 1 - Army - Broodlords or ling runbys
Mouse 2 - Army - Corruptors or mutas or drop cleenup squad
Shift mouse 1 - Main hatch (to check for when to inject)
Shift mouse 2 - Army (anti drop squad)

When I first started playing sc2 I mapped these out as the most effient keys I could use.
Dont tase me bro

I'm not big fan of mouse hotkeys - they're a lot harder to use than keyboard ones.

I use mouse hotkeys for 7, 8, 9, 0, shift, and ctrl. That way my left hand doesn't have to reach to far away or awkward places. It also frees up 1 - 6 for my army. I find shift and ctrl especially useful because it's faster than moving your left hand to those buttons.

I'm pretty sure that's delete. Spacebar goes to the latest "warning". I have one of my mouse buttons also bound to that but I hardly ever use it because I hotkey my queens.

Spacebar sets your screen to the latest event. Such as something spawning or an upgrade completing or your base under attack.

I used to use the side buttons quite often but what i found was the constant repositioning of my thumb and the slight movement from the pressure of pressing the button affected my precision. I still use the closest one but only sparingly as I find keeping the mouse hand purely for navigation is the best use.

I would only use my mouse for the left and right mouse click, and they keyboard for all the hotkeys.
Maybe it's because i'm left-handed and it feels more comfortable doing everything on my keyboard, since I got my mouse on my right hand.

Yeah I set backspace to my mouse button for fast injects. The other one I set to jump to a location.
Done with Team Liquid for a while. Don't expect to find me here.

I used to have that mouse exactly, lasted me 5 years, pretty balanced in the hand, still my backup if my kinzu fails.

I used to have control on the left mouse button so I could just mouse button and press a number to bind hotkeys, it was super useful in brood war when you needed to use all 10 hotkeys. Especially cause I have super small girly hands. D=

Stopped using it after a while cause I found myself accidentally adding/deleting control groups if I pressed on the button too hard when macroing, I kind of play old fashioned now - no fancy inject method or alternate hotkeys, just camera hotkeys on f2-f6 brood war style.

I'm using the DarkGrid 1.3 layout.
This binds mouse4 to queens and mouse5 to hatches.
Works like a charm for nice injects and less finger movement.

Ive noticed Nestea and some other zergs with all hatches on 0. I only assume that it means all hatches are on a mouse key. I myself prefer just using the keyboard though it could be quite cool putting a camera location on your mouse for really quick jumps to the action after sorting stuff at your base.

I use Darkgrid, so I have all my queens on the "upper" butten and all my hatcheries on my "lower" button. It's awesome one used to it, the obvious disavantage being that I can't play unless I have a mouse with those extra buttons.

that depends where you come from (gaming standpoint). I come from WoW and my most important things were on mouse 4 and 5 (trinkets, O-SHIT-Buttons)... Sure this is a completely different game, but its much more convinient for me to use the mouse hotkeys even in SC2. If you always played RTS games, then i think itsp retty hard maybe to use these keys.

When i was zerg my hotkeys on the mouse were

Mouse 5 - Camera Position where the active creep tumors are
Shift + Mouse 5 - Set Camera to current location

so every time after spreding creep i hit shift ouse 5 and when i remembered to spread further just mouse 5 and you are exactly there.

something like main hatch for inject-checks sounds also good if you have all your hatches on 1 hotkey (cant check inject timer anymore)

I normally do use hotkeys 1-3 for my main army. (ZvT: 1 = muta 2= ling 3= bling) My side moust buttons go towards other units I may have. (Mouse button 1 = infestor Mouse button 2 = brood)

That is exactley how I use them as well. I do use the forward mouse button (button 4) as the control group for all hatches. It works perfectley when you are in the middle of fights where you have to change the rally points all the time.
I don't play for fun.

In my 6years of wow(vanilla through wrath, cata was too fucked up for me ) I only used mouse hotkeys when I had a naga even then I still had trinks and other spells pin word keybindings because it was a better use of your keyboard hand. Though if you were a paladin you could have had all your 1-3 lol.....
Camera jumping to all of your bases is nice though. As toss find idle worker key kinds pointless if you shift que things.
So I rebound f1 to a camera jump key
we all hope to be like whitera one day

imho you just need the keyboard to perform greatly and your skill is just limited to how good you are. Though, if you want to get the max from your equipment, you could consider binding for example 9, 8 or other high numbers (difficult to reach) to your mouse buttons.

lol.... Only a zerg player can think of putting an entire army on only 1 hot key. If you are protoss or Terran by nature. You won't do it, and you'll know exactly why.

But all you need is left click right click and a working mouse.

I have all my hatches on one keybind, and a SINGLE hatchery keybound to my 'Mouse 4'. I tap mouse 4 when I'm out microing stuff so I can keep track of the inject larvae progress bar.

My injects are pretty good, but my creep spread is disgusting, so KroN's idea seems cool. Thanks for the help guys!
