I'm saving for a car and college tuition, last thing I bought was amnesia for $5; you can't really expect me to pay for this.

With all the issues that paid subscribers were seeing, I'm glad I used a restream. The MLG_SCA stream was working nicely, though, for the short time that I was watching it (not while everyone else was lagging)

They work within a very self-contained structure in a single country. ESL sells stuff and has issues with administration. They've continued to exist and continued to put on tournaments, but they aren't a particularly good model. WCG was a pet project of Samsung. It's dying now that Samsung is less interested in wasting lots of money. They also have tons of problems - VoDs, website - and aren't a model organization at all. More than anything they're an example of what not to do, for reasons explained a lot of times on Live on 3 and even ITG/SotG. Rather than asking rhetorical questions (since I assume that's rhetorical. I don't think you're going to pay any attention to answers), educate yourself. Watch Sundance's interviews. Watch MLGAdam's interview. Read the posts here by LordJerith about monetizing Starcraft. Read FXOBoss's blog. Try to understand what MLG is trying to accomplish.

Anyone accusing Sundance or MLG of greed are damn ignorant. If Esports is going to grow it needs more people. PPV turns away people. Major sports aren't PPV for a reason, PPV makes introducing new people to something very difficult because no one is going to pay money to watch something theyre not super-ultra-mega fans of. MLG is just looking short-term, though expecting halo derps to think about where they will be in 10/20/50 years is a bit much....

I don't have to pay to watch TV on Hulu (and I don't even watch on hulu because of ads). Advertising means free watchers are already being used as a source of income.

To restate my position, I watched a restream because of a combination of self-interest (I'm a poor student, with a fixed income and no $ to spare) and because I oppose the agenda of MLG which, just like in every other sport, is to get a chokehold on distribution/licensing to the point where they control the sport entirely. Apart from a select few, players can't even make a reliable professional income, yet our priority is monetizing events so MLG can pay dividends to their investors,,,, You are beyond ignorant. The stream dropped twice for a total of 5 minutes and each time, there were other ways to view the game. MLG wants to monetize so they can become the first self-sufficient eSports league in the world. Take a hike and don't come back until you have a logic based around facts rather than your oh so noble crusader bullshit.

I don't really see where the massive QQ is coming from personally, people thinking MLG is the devil trying to gouge them out of every dollar they can is quite ridiculous. MLG is NOT (read: NOT) the first north american esports circuit. The first one didn't charge for anything but attendence / concessions (online viewing was completely free), and the CPL went out of business after ~7 years. Companies like this need money to stay afloat. One thing I would probably see them doing if they were doing poorly was changing the location of the office, can't imagine the rent in a place like that..
