I didn't pay or watch MLG this week, not because I'm cheap or I thought it was too expensive I just didn't have the time to watch all the games, but I wish everyone would stop calling people "cheap" because they didn't want to pay.
For years e-sports has been either free or pay for HQ with free LQ calling people cheap because they didn't want to pay $20 for something they usually get for free is unfair and ridiculous. It's not killing e-sports.
If you had $20 and the time to spare then congrats, you got to see some amazing games, stop being mad at people that couldn't afford it/didn't think it was worth it.

Instead of doing PPV's, Sundance should focus his attention to Blizzard and make them help market tournaments inside the game client. Works wonders for League of Legends.

Couldn't irresponsibly blow $20 on a weekend of the content of this magnitude. It couldn't be done. I watched a re-stream and still wasn't convinced. I can spend that money much better such as buying math books or language learning materials or help pay for my gym membership etc using $20 for 1 weekend as the scaling factor. They last longer for my enjoyment and I get much better payback.

No idea why it let me watch, but I was able to watch all the major games in good quality with barely any lagg, for free.
Standard Google Chrome installation.
Hurry guys crucify me! i paid for my membership, and have no problem with people who used the workaround. indeed, i told my friend about the workaround so that he could watch for free. thats mlg's fuck-up and they should fix it.
my only issue is the speculation that the freeloaders caused lag. if thats true--and i have no idea if it is--that would piss me off. but lag seems like mlg/twitch's fuck-up and they should fix it.

So the only way MLG can think of to get good games is to pay people to go to their tournaments?
It hurts my head to think that nobody could come up with a better way to get good players to want to go to their tournaments.

You were right, it would actually have been better to have that as an option in the initial poll because at a BarCraft you didn't pay for the stream itself but watched it without using a restream or private/incognito browsing. Poll is flawed as it is.

I watched it as a part of my school's starcraft 2 club

I'm sure if they didn't fly the players out they still would hvae all wanted to go. But spending a thousand dollars to fly to the US to most likely win nothing isn't really worth it for most people..

Ask any team or team manager, or the teamless players who were able to attend, how they feel about the accomidations being taken care of. Not only the monetary side, but the logistics of setting up a flight, hotel, food, etc.

Didn't pay, stream was free for me anyway out of some strange combination of adblock and no script, didn't use privacy work around but voted that I did because of lack of option.
Would pay 5$ easily, would think twice about 10$. I don't believe paying 20$ is helping esports grow and I don't buy into sundances pity parade on SoTG. I don't want to support a PPV pay model that starts at 20$, personal preference nothing against people who bought it. Funny thing is if they marketed it properly, said 20$ would support further arena's and was an option and still gave a 360p free stream I would have gladly bought a pass, no 360p stream and bad marketing sealed the deal with me not thinking they deserved my money.

And what do you have to do to help this happen? Pay $20.
Yep $20
Apparently that makes Sundance Hitler... What a strange world we live in... Unless you understand how monetizing esports in this way will affect the scene in the long-term, and are ready to make an argument about it, your statements mean less than nothing. I'm sorry but to me $20 is less than nothing...If people are wanting Esports to expand and cannot help with something as little as $20. Then yes Esports is in trouble but I don't think its because Sundance is charging the $20, It's because people are greedy and assume they have the right to watch anything that is produced ever (we are used to torrents and watching streams for free).

If MLG didn't fly people to New York, the prize pool could have been ~$70,000.
This is just one reason why BW was localized. MLG is spending way too much money on people who don't win.

I thought I had 1 hour of free time to watch the stream, so started it when Huk vs Ret got aired. But the stream never got closed :S so I just kept watching it till the end
|
I paid and ended up watching unlaggy restreams because the official stream kept freezing on me.

Um...
I watched with a friend that paid the $20, what do I vote? I saw it legitimately but didn't pay for it.

US culture is built around wasting money on luxury items. I don't purchase refreshments at a movie theatre and my phone plan is much more essential and I use it more and it gives me greater pay back and is at a much better value. Eating out are social events such as dates or with buds, harvesting relationships have much more value than watching a bracket of starcraft stretched out over a weekend. I also don't do the above mentioned very often, on special occasions.
