Also, this whole resurgence makes me want to start reworking my ideas and photoshopping a new design doc. UIs from several games, especially Dota 2, seem to have gotten these concepts right and I'll be using them/fellow nerd baller's input as inspiration as I put it together. A couple minor ideas that occurred to me: - Auto-login option, requires a 'logout' menu option - Rclick to join lobby of friend (ala steam) A "Find Tournament" button, in addition to our "Find Match". System puts you in a queue and creates a 8/16/32 man tournament with players of similar MMR's. Once a tourney is found, it takes you to a beautiful lobby screen that has the bracket, settings for the different rounds, map pool, etc. Completely automated by bnet, similar to playing in sit-n-go tourneys on popular poker programs. A "Practice Ladder" button. Lets you also choose the race of your opponent, what map you want to practice on. Based off your MMR, has no impact on "Ranked" ladder points and your MMR.

Wow, really good work! Sadly that the real UI has so less elements from it. I hope that with HotS new features are added and the UI will be redesigned especially at certain points. Maybe it is already on Blizzard's agenda.

On the other hand, I would like more of a sense of community on Bnet and more detailed stats. Insta-tournaments would be funny, but might hurt the ladder... Everything else I don't need...

Automated tournaments in WC3 worked well and didn't impact the ladder in any way. They didn't run all day long, but only once or twice a day, and "only" offered additional, tournament-exclusive portraits as rewards. If you're lacking comparison, please take a look at this image to see what SC2'S UI could already have implemented, or take a look at Husky's video outlining Battle.Net 1.0's features.

For example, the league and division ranking systems are preferable to the alternatives. Don't really care about clans... Everything else I don't need.

1. We are too much like a hamster running in his wheel ... too busy playing to think about "good and bad". 2. We get used to it over time ... using the old "time heals any wound" motto. 3. Hardly anyone is doing anything about it to "force" Blizzard into improving because we are selfish and unorganized. Boycotting BNet2.0 (for a weekend maybe) is about the only thing I can come up with as a kind of protest which Blizzard might listen to; another thing might be NOT buying the next expansion until about two months later (and voicing your opinion on forums and in emails to Blizzard). The "first week sales" are very important indicators and this might "show Blizzard who is boss". Some software companies have is just too much power and we shouldnt put up with them trying to force us into any of their "game only works when you are logged on services". I recently bought the series 'firefly' on DVD and after every episode (there are four on each disc) you are treated to several screens of "dont do illegal downloading-screens"; things like this will actually make me think twice about buying a legal copy again. I dont like being treated like a mindless slave by an industry which claims to desire to "entertain" me. Dear industry: Treat us - the customers - with respect and don't try to bully us!

Coming from BW, I felt and agree with all of your points. It's absolutely beyond me how much blizzard has messed up battle.net for SC2. I hope they can get their heads on straight and listen to the community.

1) Watching replays with others!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHOLY FCUK, what is so hard about it, its like obsing games... 2) Communication!!!!!! WTF, you cannot msg a random person from inside game. He must have either msgd you before, or he must be in your friends list, and then you must open some stupid manu with the mouse first. I think its more than just nostalgia! The dos like functionality of bnet 1.0 was great. I know the scenario described above doesnt happen that often anymore, because your flist is greater then 25. But its more than that. Its the whole communication system system that suxxxxxx in bnet 2.0!!!! But that has been mentioned plenty of times... 3) Lan modus. well maybe the most important factor for tournaments, but it only affects me indirectly. For esport it may be the most important issue, for me personally its the "least" of the three. anyways thats my 2cents.

I'll bet money that if Blizzard set up a contest for ideas in anything, that there would be thousands of people just like him willing to help contribute. But instead of being part of the community, Blizzard is above it. There are little to no feed back on the blizzard forums, and there seems to be absolutely no effort to realize suggestions. Any improvements are being blanketed under the "being implemented in HOTS" canvas. How about letting us be part of the decision process as to what kind of improvements we should go for and how they should be implemented? The community is given no respect, and there's really nothing anyone can do about it. There is so much untapped potential and enthusiasm that is souring, turning into frustration and disappointment. It's like being the victim of an abusive relationship. Complain all I want, but where else can I go?

Every picture in my post made my heart throb a little bit. I really hope we could convince some of the bigger names like Day9 and Husky who have had contact with blizzard to get this done! It not only enhances the way the game will be played it also makes it more attractive to new people coming into the scene.

A "Practice Ladder" button. Lets you also choose the race of your opponent, what map you want to practice on. Based off your MMR, has no impact on "Ranked" ladder points and your MMR. I really like this idea. Normally I'll have to get ahold of one of my practice partners (which is hard since they are normally sleeping when I'm awake) to practice with me certain matchups on different maps. I would love it if they came out with a Practice Ladder button.

On February 05 2012 20:56 suejak wrote: The degree of breathless emotion with which you guys discuss this really churns my butter ![]() Not sure if you're being ironic or not, but I'll explain our - or at least my - motivation behind putting so much energy into this. I grew up with SC/BW. When I wasn't in school or hanging out with friends, you could find me somewhere on Battle.Net. We moved around a lot when I was younger, and SC/BW (and later WC3) helped me keep contact to friends that were too far away for anything except phone, mail and online games. I also met a lot of funny people through the platform, resulting in friendships and contacts that have lasted until today. SC/BW and WC3 were as much strategy games as they were social games. In SC, you went online and your friends welcomed you, your default channel said hello. In WC3, your clan said Hi when you connected. You didn't need TL, Skype, IRC or anything of the likes to feel as part of a community. I see all the people saying "but SC2 is a social experience too" and then they show their TL activity, their stream chat, their Skype logs, their channel on Quakenet ... guess what: You didn't need all of that. Sure, it helped, and we used most of that stuff too. But even without it, battle.net was a social experience. Good luck holding that up with SC2's system - it's a joke, with communication being the major hassle it is at this point. The TL;DR of all of this is this: Compared to WC/BW or WC3, you feel alone in SC2. And Blizzard doesn't care about it. This isn't just nostalgia; it's utter frustration. We've grown to like Blizzard games for their gameplay as much as for their community, and the latter part has gone almost completely missing since 2010. *edit: The same holds true for World of Warcraft, by the way. It's seen a major drop in subscriber rates, with a frequent reason for cancelled subscriptions being that while the game has become more comfortable and accesible in some regards, the feeling of a community has gone down the drain. It's become a single player MMO, just as SC2 feels like a single player RTS at this point.

1. Clan Support - I loved it in WC3. They really need to bring it back. 2. Automated Tournaments - They bring the community together. If pairing up players for it was based off MMR you would see a TON of people logging in everyday to compete. And throw in some awesome portraits and decals for prizes and you have yourself a happy and thankful community. 3. Shared Replay Watching - It speaks for itself. I don't know how many times I want to show my practice partners a certain build I'm working on or what not, but in order to do so I'll need to upload it on a third party site. Why don't they have this already built in? They had it on Battle.net 1.0!! 4. Statistics - For each race you played on that account with your W/L and your tournament W/L. This also goes back to Clan Support where they had the statistics for your entire clan so you'd know who your better players were. 5. Making Multiple Accounts - I loved how in WC3 you were able to make another account with ease and at no additional cost to you. If you mainly played Human, but wanted to try out Undead you could just make a whole new account so you wouldn't mess up your current one. This is a problem at the moment in SC2. If you play Protoss at a GM level and want to try out Terran on ladder you either play Terran on your main account and jeopardize your league ranking (though ladder is only ranked practice) or cough out another 50 something dollars for a new account. This also goes out to the pros, too. Many of them have to buy new accounts just so they can have legitimate practice sessions on ladder.
