When I started playing sc2 I had real difficulty remembering what I need to do next (so many things to remember). It included what to do next in a build order, as well as repetitive tasks, such as injects. So I decided to make a program that would help me with these issues.
The program takes a screenshot of the game (just like fraps or any other screen capturing soft), then uses OCR to find out what game time it is and how many resources you currently have. Then based on this information it plays audio prompts: idle worker, too much minerals, inject, etc...
In short it helps with developing mechanics faster. I would like to know what people think about this idea and if the community would benefit if I release this program. The program does not modify sc2 in any way or sends any events to it, it simply takes screenshots. It does not affect fps in any significant way either. Of course, it can not help with micro or decision making, but it can help with macro and make sure you do not forget some things.
Let me know what you think. Or PM me if you want to try it.

From bronze to diamond only a program away

I think there was already a thread discussing something similar to this, and most people considered it cheating if it was used in online play. But if it's just used for training against AI or something it sounds interesting, I would definitely look into it.
Note that even if this doesn't modify SC2, it might still be considered a violation of Blizzards EULA.
It could be helpful..but I think using it during ladder goes against blizzards terms of use or something.

Using any kind of program like this is cheating :/

I believe even if this program is developed as intended, it will still be unable to work very efficiently especially with respect to zerg. If the player does not select the queen or hatchery / command centre / nexus / MBS, the program will not be able to work. So, it will need a minimum of base skill from the player in order to benefit from it. A simpler program that will be more effective will probably be a repeated macro voice timer like that been suggested before.
My experience with OCR systems have been rather disappointing as well so I'm unsure on how effective your program can be.
My 2 cents.

its just like all those other gimmicky programs that don't actually help you...its a cheat sheet for playing SC. Instead of doing it by learning u r doing it by it telling you to. Over time it MIGHT help...but thats it...you will learn it faster if you force yourself to do it, not when its given to you
Say no to cheating! Offline do w/e you feel like.
How is it any different then simply looking at those three information (Ressources, Idle Worker and Warp Gates)?
why don't you actually modify your thought process to go through those problems in your play?
like a sticky note that says to look at those information or whatever?
Interesting reaction. Is having a sticky note with a build order on your monitor a cheat as well? I guess the same refers to coaching. I saw a video where HDStarcraft was playing and PainUser was giving him hints about what to do. I believe sticky notes, coaching, youtube videos playing in background have more affect in the next game you play, than in the current game. Next game your habits are a little better. It seems that having someone to remind you what to do next will reinforce habits faster, then remind these things to yourself when watching a replay.
I thought of this tool might help people develop their skills a little faster Those who would like to try this out program PM me and I will keep you updated.
It shouldn't be a program, but a custom game for practicing mechanics.
If you write a sticky note with a bo thats one more thing to look at. This program takes away thingss you need to pay attention to by throwing you an alert. Preparing for a match isnt the same thing as having a program hold your hand. geez
I think this is a great idea for people that want to train themselves. Having a program like this to periodically remind you what you should be remembering to do (inject, build worker, chrono boost, scout, etc.) isn't really cheating. It's just training your mechanics so that they become second nature. As for releasing the program, I'd only recommend releasing it if you release the source code with the binaries.
Isn't using something like this a bit close to cheating?
seems like cheating to me
What I read this sounds very much cheating. Let me give you a old fashioned way to learn: Learn a section at a time and by the time you have your micro in a decent level compared to the league you are in you can start learn other sections etc.
This is a bad Idea! If you additionally to that programm you take out the silly micro you would realize that only pure strategy is left in this game and players would find out that SC II is more like a microfps game then a strategy game XD So bad programm ! Do not use !

People will literally do anything to avoid just practicing and learning how to play normally.
