Stephano should have been banned from ONOG events for 'X' amount of time or something, they shouldn't have messed with the order. Stephano played well enough to get 2nd place, you have to pay him for his 2nd place performance, unless there is a rule regarding no shows = DQ. A full on DQ is the only way this would make any sense. You can't simply say, 'we're mad at you for not playing the final, we now place you...hmmm..4th place! It's silly. Horrid judgement call by ONOG, absolutely horrid.

But I second the thought that his particular post here wasn't neccessary. The whole thing is pointless drama. Nothing serious happened; Stephano had some bad judgement, the ONOG crew winged a decision instead of calmly dealing with the whole issue. Both sides suffered, and endless text could be (and has been) produced over which side "hurt Esports more" with this, while it's not actually that huge of a deal. I've always cherished the differences between Reddit and TL, with Reddit being the "quicker" source of information, having a much easier way to filter relevant content and getting to the heart of things, but also being prone to drama; TL on the other hand having slower, but more detailed reports and a much calmer style of discussing things. Both sides have their pros and cons but this thread feels like TL trying to be Reddit. Fill the community news with actual, relevant content, not with third-grade gossip like this.

He can choose when he plays and when he does not, and if he feels the conditions for him are not optimal ( being tired in this case ) he should not play. The tournament organisers should act accordingly to their rules and if there is no specific point about forfeiting, then he should just simply be awarded with 2nd place, as he rightfully earned it. He should not play in tournaments if he can't stick to their schedule. If he can't stick to their rules, why should they stick to their own? Moving him to 4th is a +1 in my book(and my book is hella long).

(I realize it is fairer, ALOT fairer even to alternate servers after each game) However rules are rules and I've played tons of tournaments that are ONLY EU events, and I was looking forward to this event being a NA event. Stephano said he would forfeit and not play his games against Violet unless it was alternating games. This caused ONLY the matches after his to be played this way. Sase vs Catz for instance was ONLY on NA. And the games of Me vs Kas were played on alternating servers (EU + NA). I do think that way is fairest, but I really dislike coming into a tournament expecting something and having the rules changed on me within 10 minutes of me having to play. And more on topic, its unprofessional to do this as a player, but if you are as successful of a player as Stephano you can do this and be fine. After all, we all want to see his play. Its amazing play. I mean he alone, is probably why a huge amount of viewers were watching and if he decides randomly he doesn't want to play, he doesn't have to. Its something tournaments have to keep in mind when inviting him though. I'm a HUGE stephano fan. So please take this as "I wish tournaments wouldn't cater to a player completely" (changing rules on the spot; server situation) and then not expect players to take advantage of the situation, by doing it again (I need sleep or Forfeit). Also, Stephano's play was absurdly good this tournament + I really enjoyed the entire tournament. It was a pleasure to be a part of and I only wish it hadn't been hurt by these occurrences. For all the people defending Stephano this Post from Sheth is imo quite important too. The rules/schedule of a invitational where he accepted the invite doesn't seem that important to him. Kinda sad that Stephano abuses his position as a fan favorite for his advantage and gets away with it.

As Hot_Bid said, this thread is meant to serve as a "hub" for all the information concerning this incident. It's an ease of use thing, so people don't have to dig through the entire LR thread to get all the info they need. Dismissing it as nothing but a means to increase web traffic misrepresents the administrators of TL. And besides that, drama notwithstanding, it's a piece of news. Team Liquid is a news site. Why wouldn't this be of interest to those who browse the site (especially those who may not venture into the LR threads at all)?

Some players lack the social skills and manners to think about other people, tournament organisers and fans, they really need to learn.

Didn't think TL would become such a drama site.

I don't agree with the tourney sending him back to 4th place though, he EARNED atleast second, why give more money to the people who didn't? It just seems like ONOG wanted the last word or something, seems pretty immature...
