Seems pretty fair to me. If you can't be bothered to play the games, you don't deserve the prize money. If a player forfeited the GSL finals, would you expect GOM to be "ah okay, I guess we'll not have a finals this season"?
"If it turns out he is leaving the ESL to focus on cooking crystal meth I'll agree that it is somewhat disgraceful, but I'll hold off judgement until then."

How does a tournament change your position to penalize you? That's retarded. I agree some sort of punishment should be made when a player forfeits your final, but really? You're going to arbitrairly fuck with the placements of your own tournament? Why 4th? Why not 5th? Why not 3rd? A full on DQ, you're removed from the tournament would make more sense.

Stephano should have been banned from ONOG events for 'X' amount of time or something, they shouldn't have messed with the order. Stephano played well enough to get 2nd place, you have to pay him for his 2nd place performance, unless there is a rule regarding no shows = DQ. A full on DQ is the only way this would make any sense. You can't simply say, 'we're mad at you for not playing the final, we now place you...hmmm..4th place! It's silly. Horrid judgement call by ONOG, absolutely horrid.

there is a difference tho between forfeiting in group stages and in a final ...
(maybe not @ zotac and other weekly cups since they dont even seem to care at all)

Tennis players forfeit games in tournaments they have commited to participate due to injuries and beeing tired and no one bash then.

I think that regardless of how the game plays out, I think it's the players responsibility to assume a motivation for a chance at prize money for them/their team.

It is; and I'm glad TL has a community news section. But I second the thought that his particular post here wasn't neccessary.

The whole thing is pointless drama. Nothing serious happened; Stephano had some bad judgement, the ONOG crew winged a decision instead of calmly dealing with the whole issue. Both sides suffered, and endless text could be (and has been) produced over which side "hurt Esports more" with this, while it's not actually that huge of a deal.

I've always cherished the differences between Reddit and TL, with Reddit being the "quicker" source of information, having a much easier way to filter relevant content and getting to the heart of things, but also being prone to drama; TL on the other hand having slower, but more detailed reports and a much calmer style of discussing things. Both sides have their pros and cons but this thread feels like TL trying to be Reddit.

Fill the community news with actual, relevant content, not with third-grade gossip like this.

Also, Stephano's play was absurdly good this tournament + I really enjoyed the entire tournament. It was a pleasure to be a part of and I only wish it hadn't been hurt by these occurrences.


For all the people defending Stephano this Post from Sheth is imo quite important too. The rules/schedule of a invitational where he accepted the invite doesn't seem that important to him. Kinda sad that Stephano abuses his position as a fan favorite for his advantage and gets away with it.

That's an unfair thing to say. As Hot_Bid said, this thread is meant to serve as a "hub" for all the information concerning this incident. It's an ease of use thing, so people don't have to dig through the entire LR thread to get all the info they need. Dismissing it as nothing but a means to increase web traffic misrepresents the administrators of TL.

And besides that, drama notwithstanding, it's a piece of news. Team Liquid is a news site. Why wouldn't this be of interest to those who browse the site (especially those who may not venture into the LR threads at all)?

The first place prize was nothing to laugh at, I think anyone else in Stephano's situation would have tried to stay up and win the whole thing, and it's Stephano, he would have had a real chance. Just drink a shit load of coffee and your good to go. I guess he is still bathing in IPL cash not to care about $1500 dollars.

Some players lack the social skills and manners to think about other people, tournament organisers and fans, they really need to learn.

Why didn't you make the same news for Polt and Tyler, they both forfeited matches. Polt in Zotac finals, and tyler in this onog tournament.
Didn't think TL would become such a drama site.

I think this was handled really well, actually. It was enough of a "punishment" for Stephano, and it seems like Stephano was generally accepting of the situation/decision.

dayum, he must have been severely depleted of energy to give up that kinda money. I doubt he's just some prima donna who just crapped out to get his beauty sleep ~_~.

I don't agree with the tourney sending him back to 4th place though, he EARNED atleast second, why give more money to the people who didn't? It just seems like ONOG wanted the last word or something, seems pretty immature...

Yes, he did. No explanation given. Interestingly he withdrew from his match he was going to play against Stephano. Kinda wanted to see that.
