Happy that Stephano played until he did, and happy ONOG saw it fit to give us viewers even more games once he decided he couldnt stay up any longer. Exactly this. He couldn't physically play anymore. I think if he could, he wouldn't give up on 1500$ like that... I also don't see him complaining about the sanction (which is justified I believe), so there really isn't any problem. The only thing that he can be blamed for is participating in multiple tournys at once. If you're going to blame him for that, you might as well also blame a countless number of pros or semi-pros that do this every week in daily cups, or weekly cups (look at the number of forfeits of GM players for gamecreds for example). It's only a problem in his case because he's actually good enough to reach the finals in both tournaments.

You can't make someone do something they don't want to do. I respect stephano for caring about himself. maybe the tournament people should pick players that wont be busy playing other tournaments that day. In fact that seems very logical to me. What if when a player signed up, they signed to "not play in any tournaments 1 day before or after this one" ?? that way you make sure all the people playing are well rested and committed to this tournament. You cant be mad that you couldn't get a player to commit, just because you really really wanted him to. And lets say instead of this he Drone rushed all 4 games, that would have been fine. lol.

Love Stephano as a player, don't like him as a person at all for the way he acts in the community. I don't think him being moved to 4th was fully justified, but I can't say I mind that it happened.

It's Stephanos fault, it seems the tournament creators did basically everything they could to accomodate him, and even so, he screwed them over. Stephano's fault for beeing too good and getting to many finals.

But could we end the pointless calling out of drama is killing esports, and this thread is just reiterating already available information (which hot_bid already covered why this is a good thread.) I'm not saying what stephano did was ok, it wasn't. For me if you start a tourney be prepared to finish it, especially if you make it deep in the bracket. He could have easily deduced how late the tourney was going to run, and if he wanted to drop out he should have done it a lot sooner.

You can forfeit because you are tired and accept the consequences, but to not even understand why people would be displeased with you is quite surprising. Just gotta remind myself that he's an 18 year old kid... can't expect much. Love watching him play regardless. For anybody to say that leaving in the finals of a tournament isn't disrespectful to the organizers and the fans is kidding themselves.

Moving him to 4th is a +1 in my book(and my book is hella long). Stephano did not violate any rules, forfeiting from tournament is not forbidden. However, I do not think there is any rule that allows tournament organisers to simply put a 2nd place player in 4th spot.

As for player attitude and self-management, however, I believe we are only beginning to uncover a serious issue. These guys aren't properly managed. They are over-booked when their tournament results are good, and under-booked (and not earning money) when their results are bad. In other words, this resembles a bounty-hunting society where the hunter just tosses out a ton of traps and gathers up what he managed to capture, with next-to-zero thoughts about the traps that did not capture anything. Someone suggested KeSPA-like governing body - it might work, but it has its share of problems too (just ask any BW enthusiast if they like KeSPA).

Good job by the organizers to penalize him. To leave a tournament without the "final" is disrespectful to the fans, tournament and sponsors. Pathetic really. I hope in the future there will be some sort of ruling body to enforce real penalties for this sort of ... disrespect.
