You want to be the Beast from the East? You want to be Pappa-Toss? You want to the Generalissimo of Special Tactics? You want to be Alpha Double Super Being of Grand Aweseomness? Ok, I made that one up. But suffice it to say that WhiteRa is one of the best players and more importantly, one of the best people to grace the SC2 scene. If you want to be like WhiteRa there are a few steps you must follow before you become: WhiteRa.
First we Make Language, Then we Speak it
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/aUryt.jpg)
It is no great secret that WhiteRa's English is not his strong suit. He is from the Ukraine, and thusly speaks Russian. If you wish to become WhiteRa you must create your own unique brand of broken English. Instead of saying "Today I will stream" you should instead say "I make stream today". Not only is it catchier, but you also sound cuter when doing it. This is important because if you are to become WhiteRa you must try to become a married man. Apologies to the ladies, but this man is taken and he will be unavailable. First he makes relationship, then he defends it.
Find a Disabled Person, Make him Happy
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/jQHOC.jpg)
WhiteRa embodies happiness. Spread your happiness to all others, especially those who are less fortunate than you. You gain more happiness points by spreading it around, making you even more happy. More happy, more happy.
Be Completely 100% Manner 100% of the Time
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/2sI2w.jpg)
Seriously, I don't know when the last time WhiteRa BM'ed someone was. The dude is even better mannered than Sheth, and that’s because Sheth BM's Deezer, which everyone can agree is completely forgiveable. He doesn't ever make a scene even when he is wronged or upset by something. Remember MLG Anaheim? Whitera was disqualified in his first match for being late, even though he was there. He took the ruling standing up, and beast moded through the open bracket. He faced the opponent he was disqualified against later on, Gimix. Gimix threw the first two games away worker rushing to make it a fair 2-2 series. That is the reputation that WhiteRa has. Day or night, cheese or macro, gg or accidental f10+n, WhiteRa is always there with a smile and thumbs up.
Dominate the Scene Since...Ever
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/b5TAo.jpg)
This guy has been around since the very beginning. He's played Brood War since release, and SC2 since Beta. His list of tournament wins is almost as big as his smile. Multiple WCG Ukraine championships, IPL2, HomestoryCupII. The list goes on. And it isn't just the championships he's won. Almost every single major tournament in Europe, WhiteRa has been there. He is consistently in the top few brackets without fail. WhiteRa, while also instilling happiness and images of rainbows and flowers to most people, also instils fear in his opponents. When he sits down to play a match, his hair sticks on end. His shoulders square. His pupils enlarge and cover all of his eye whites. His opponents are suddenly consumed by visions of rivers of blood, broken shattered villages and women and children running and crying in fear of WhiteRa's army. After they have been thoroughly smashed, the normal WhiteRa returns and he shakes his opponents hand and moves on with a smile.
Employ Special Tactics
![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/KnsUQ.jpg)
No article about WhiteRa would be complete without mention of Special Tactics. Special Tactics can be defined simply as anything that WhiteRa does that is out of the ordinary. Which happens to be everything WhiteRa does. Whether it is two base 12gate Dragoon Zealot way back when in Brood War or Archon drops in the present, you can count on WhiteRa on doing something unusual. The quickest way to employ your own Special Tactics is to grab a Warp Prism, fill it to the brim with Special Tactic commandoes, and DROP ALL THE THINGS. If you want to get more in depth WhiteRa’s special tactics take a huge amount of preparation and focus. Most of his builds are specifically designed for an opponent or a common style and exploit weaknesses in his opponent’s timings. WhiteRa is one of the most powerful 7/8 gaters out there because of how precise he is. Oh you think he won because he was lucky he attacked before Burrow was finished? No. He planned for that and knew almost down to the second what he needed to do.
Even his Warp Prism play is calculated to divert his opponent’s attention from what he is actually trying to do. While harassing he will frequently set up a new base in secret or he will maneuver his army into an advantageous position.
Keep the Community in Mind
WhiteRa’s commitment to growing and caring for the SC2 community is truly astounding. He is committed to making all of his fans as happy as possible, and this man delivers. He has rarely if ever given cause for a complaint. One example of this is something that WhiteRa has repeated many a time. He does not offer private coaching sessions even though he could probably charge a good $100 an hour or more. His reasoning? “I have many offer for 100$. But choise make stream. It’s better for practice and community.”

All jokes aside he is definitely someone I look up to, in and outside SC2. I wish more SC2 pro-gamers were like him in terms of attitude, behaviour and so on. He is a great member of the community that deserves our full respect.
He is also one of the very few (read, 2-3) pro players that when appear to play, people give him a standing ovation before the game even started.

So you wanna be a White-Ra live large big house five cars

As far as I know, they speak Ukrainian in Ukraine, not Russian.

He really is an amazing player and person. If I see him streaming I just pretty much stop everything I'm doing and open his stream.

They speak russian in ukraine. Ukrainian is mostly only spoken by the older who still remember it before the USSR days. At least that's what it was like when I was there. I moved from there to america when I was 7 though, and am 24 now so that's quite a while. My parents can speak both because they learned ukrainian when they were still kids, but from what I remember about being a kid there the official language was russian, it's what was used in schools and basically everywhere.

Agreed. He and Boxer are definitely the most common examples of this... and I can't really think of any others who- without fail- are universally loved by the crowd and receive that much affection the second they step onto the stage.

Hmmm...nope I want to be the opposite lol. I actually troll people in gold league all the time with the intetion of making them log off the game in frustration
If they say "glhf" at the start of the game, I'll say like 5-10 insulting or mean things to try and get them angry lol. It's actually entertaining. I dont think I will ever understand why people get so mad about "bm".
For example, yesterday this terran player went insane. He said 'gl hf' at the start of the game, and I said something like "f*** you" and he literally went on a rampage. He spent a solid 5 minutes (actual minutes, not sc2 minutes lol) telling me how I will never get anywhere in life and how much of a low life scumbag that I am. He went on about how I probably work at 7-11 (which i dont, but i dunno why that wouild be a problem anyway lol) and that everyone hates me.
Then he proceeded to lift all of his buildings and send them to the corners of the map. Just because I didnt say "gl hf"
I actually saved the replay, just PM me if you want to see lol.

STEPS TO SELF IMPROVEMENT:
a) learn what trolling is. b) never say that word again
Also your behaviour besides retarded and childish, (combined by your league and your usage of the word trolling, they suggest you are around 15 or so) is totally not going to get you anywhere out of gold. And if you are playing "for funzies" then I really wonder about your definition of fun. Finding other 15 year olds and moking them. GTFO white ra's thread, you're an insut to it.
About white ra, I have little to say. The guy is a great role model in so many ways, I would need a freaking huge post. I am really glad about the recognition and love he recieves from the community.

i had the rare and very unique opportunity of meeting White-Ra at a Barcraft event back in October, and i can honestly say without a doubt, he is the most mannered and all around good person everyone says he is. the man very much appreciates his fans and esports in general.

the man very much appreciates his fans and esports in general. This. I met the guy on like 15 occasions at Dreamhack, when I went for a piss I would run into the guy, when I went for a smoke, he was there. On all occasions guy was polite as you could want and showed some good play in the groups too.
The broken English is charming and all, but the guy's actual personality is much more so!

i think thorzain and grubby are up there as well... such calm and mannered players.
thorzain, grubby and whitera are in a minority in that they almost never let anger/frustration take over. they view everything logically and activate the problem solving part of the brain to win.
they put players like idra and naniwa to shame. oh right, idra doesn't 'gg' because it wasn't a good game... wait a minute, do you really think anyone actually cares if idra thinks it was a 'gg' or not? it's manners that you say gg as an abbreviation for 'i submit' before leaving the game... the fact that it originally meant 'good game' is completely irrelevant.
it's a game, if you lose then you have to remember that you're playing against someone who likely worked at least as hard as you to get that win. if you don't agree with that, then frankly you're the definition of a scrub and blame your bad play on something like cheese strat or balance etc.

White-Ra is simply amazing. Reading this article made me smile. The man deserves every single fan and all the massive amounts of love the community gives him.

He is one of the very first foreigner pros I've ever seen playing, back on 2010 May while HDH Invitational was going on. Watched his finals versus Idra as he blocked tons of roaches/hydras and infestors with amazing forcefield control at the 10 o'clock expo on Metal. I kept following him, and he is one of the players I kind of feel a bond with, it's like whatever they do, whether they win, lose, or just say something, I just care for them.
He is a great player and great guy, he is awesome.
My favourite quote: During TL Attack, he said that when he first met with his wife, he told her that he was: "fighting for the defense of my country in cybersports."

I think the only time I saw him rage was against Puma in a tournament a few months ago. White-Ra got into a very bad position at his natural and his zealots were destroyed. I think he "gg-ed" out with a comment "you Terran is too good" or something similar. Of course, he may have just been complimenting Puma on his Terran play rather than QQ-ing.
Even if it was a little rage, so what, even the best of us falter sometimes. Who can not like Papa Toss?

Yes, but usually they speak both. It's pretty common in all neighbouring countries of Russia. Cause most of them were part of USSR once.

So, about Russian and Ukraine language - they are similar, but not really the same (especially when it comes to grammar). In Ukraine, the departmental, formal language is Ukrainian (used in offices and such), but in everyday life they use mostly Russian. So yea, Ra knows both
And about WhiteRa, i first saw him at some years Dreamhack, the thing i remember the most (and will never forget for sure) are finals against MC. I never cheered anyone so much in my life, so clutch, so emotional, so AWESOME. Been a fan ever since, best day of my life - meeting WhiteRa on EU battle.net invitational in Warsaw . He IS my personal role model both in life and in game, sometimes very hard to do, but hey, "more gg, more skill"
|
I love White Ra dearly and will always be his fan but I hope the "special tactics" joke dies a horrible death, like, yesterday. That shit is tired. That is his fans' fault though, not his own.

Just because I didnt say "gl hf" I actually saved the replay, just PM me if you want to see lol.
Congratulations. You are the opposite of white-ra: Immature.

Whitera got angry at Lalush's BM (google it) and threatened to kick his ass if he kept BMing, and he has the occasional qq about balance but for the most part Whitera is the role model of mature, professional and awesome.
turns out it's that way int he community too, MC said once that Whitera is his role model as far as progamers go ^^

lol "special tactics"

Whitera is the single redeeming quality of the protoss race. Normally I cry imbalance when I see a colossi wave crash on a fellow zerg, but no, whitera is more op than the race he plays.
If you don't get it, you probably play 'toss! *cue crowd hype

Considering White-Ra has signed himself up for the Korean MLG Qualifier - I personally DON'T want to be White-Ra right now sorry :'(

Lol....See this is why I love you people. You get SO mad over absolutely nothing. But hey, if there was no "bm" in this world, then you fanboys would not get so giddy over someone like white-ra.

Nice write up. It's strange how much I like WhiteRa even though I never met the guy. He is my favorite player and has been since I started watching SC2 in the King of the Beta. <3 WhiteRa!

Yeah that's basically what I said about younger generations not speaking ukrainian anymore. My parents speak both russian and ukrainian (and english obviously) but they only really learned ukrannian in school. From what I remember about my childhood there (I move to america when I was 7) it was mostly just the older people that knew ukrainian and my generation and probably the one before mine didn't.

Haha tahnks post, he deserves it! White-ra is definitely one the most loved player in SC2, plus he is gifted as well. Hope he'll continue playing forever, even when mini-White-ra will destroy everyone.

First he makes relationship, then he defends it.
I lol'd. Great article about an even greater player!

White-Ra one of the best players we have. Always good mannered and playing since... a very long time! I remember him from my beginning in BW in 2005. Every player should be as mannered as him.
Thanks White-Ra for all the entertaining games <3

Now they hardly remember ukranian, they obv understand it more or less, but can't speak it. My grandparents do know ukranian. I also think there's a difference between big cities and small ones / villages. Cos always when people get interviewed on the news etc, if it's in a proper city they always speak russian, but if it's in some "farm"-ish area, they often don't. Not sure about that though.

He is one of the few people in the world that I admire because of how well-mannered he is not just in-game but in life as well. I saw him play in the Cheonan Masters in Korea a while back and didn't have a chance to talk to him but I saw that he lost but still had a smile on his face.
Much respect.

Hilarious. But please note that Ukrainians speak Ukrainian and not Russian. There is a huge difference in the language, and about 1/2 of the population of Ukraine hates Russia and would be very insulted by what you said

Really? That's like the exact oposite of what my experience living the first 7 years of my life there was. Russian was spoken as the main language in the cities, the only ones who really knew ukrainian were the older people, and those that lived in the smaller village-ish towns.

This might be my favorite post involving the idea of White Ra without White Ra directly contributing to it. Absolutely awesome man.

I saw him do a special tactic that involved taking a 3rd at 9:30 with 2 warpgates and 1 robo with a robo bay. He had 2 colossi and a handful of gateway units. I was impressed.

yea maybe it was stockholm. but he did bm mc i clearly remember.
and we tend to be biased cuz we love white-ra. but saying that he never bm'd is simply not true. you can't bend the facts when you talk about your beloved player. that's like saying xy never did drugs because he only smoked weed and that doesn't matter. or saying that katy perry always looks good when in fact he sometimes doesn't, or insert any similar example.
the "he never bms" part is simply not true. i don't recall sheth bming anybody for example, i remember 3-4 cases of whitera, even if they werent explicit and were understandable.

The only time I remember him being BM to someone was a couple months ago, he lost a game to Lalush and threatened to kill him... He doesn't mess around, in all of my years watching him (since way back in BW days) I've never heard him BM someone..

White-ra has excellent manner almost all of the time. He's not a teenager. He's a Ukranian that adds to eSports, and who always has time and a friendly smile. He's a professional, and sets a great image of what professional eSports can be - really, who needs to BM if they can play that well and make money doing it? He's got maturity and gravitas without going pompous and egomaniac. Great guy.
Although he could probably make for one heck of a Bond villain if he wanted. "No, Mr. Bond, I make special tactics for you. Can you defend it?"
On the Ukranian/Russian language aspect... well, I imagine it depends on the person. I worked with a (legal) immigrant Ukranian what was also a wonderful person, but you never ever ever wanted to imply that she spoke Russian, or was Russian. It had to do with where she came from and the time she was there, because the USSR was not generally kind to the countries it took over after WWII. It likely is very different there now, as new generations grow up without ever really knowing what the USSR was like during its worst periods. So, I imagine some might be upset, others wouldn't care, and it all depends on their past experience.

not that, he actually typed in something to him, not very bad bm but bm, something like the besty quote to san. he communicated his frustration with a sentence. don't remember exactly the words but it did happen. that thumbs down was funny i agree

the other bm i remember is when he told lalush he'll kick his ass. that was awesome. If we are nitpicky then yes he BM'ed San and Puma. He did not bm MC as far as I know, and the Lalush thing was not BM. It was more like saying shut up to a person that is harassing you. As for the San and Puma thing, we can call it bm, but frankly that just extends the word too much. He was rather slightly QQing or having a small frustrated (undeserved) jab at the opponent. Lets keep the bm word for real bm. EDIT: Also you mean Stockholm not Kopenhagen I think ? yea maybe it was stockholm. but he did bm mc i clearly remember. and we tend to be biased cuz we love white-ra. but saying that he never bm'd is simply not true. you can't bend the facts when you talk about your beloved player. that's like saying xy never did drugs because he only smoked weed and that doesn't matter. or saying that katy perry always looks good when in fact he sometimes doesn't, or insert any similar example. the "he never bms" part is simply not true. i don't recall sheth bming anybody for example, i remember 3-4 cases of whitera, even if they werent explicit and were understandable. Depends what you consider bm. I do not consider either of them as bm no matter which player does that.

He wrote "4gate is besty". If I'm not mistaken, that was like his fourth pvp match on that tournament and the previous 3 were 4gate every game.

True, though apparently it's extremely close to Russian. Close as in some different words but I think they can understand each other, at least I think that's what White-Ra mentioned once on his stream. Correct me if I'm wrong It's not THAT similar. It's more like dutch-german. I speak both fluent russian and dutch so I'm not just guessing here. And the latest generation(s) don't speak ukranian anymore afaik. My parents don't even really speak ukranian and they're from '65 and educated in Kiev. I'm from ukraine too, we moved to NL when I was 4, (I'm 21 now). My parents had ukranian in school but they always spoke russian with pretty much everyone.
Ukranian and russian both in use. If you go to western regions of Ukraine, you will hear more of ukranian, if you go to eastern regions, you will more of russian. There is no deviation on generations as far i can tell. Most of ukranians know both languages and good amount can understand polish.
Also, White-Ra is from Odessa, so he speaks mostly in russian.
