DISCLAIMER: I have no idea if this is legal/violates TOS or similiar. Use at your own risk.
I'm doubt I am the only one who wants to try the game with korean sounds. I searched for a few keywords prior to making this guide, but I couldn't find anything specific. I did find this thread, but I disliked how it solves this. Furthermore, when I told a friend I was getting the korean sounds as well. So I thought I would share with everyone how I converted my EU client to korean sounds. I did NOT update the korean client from which I got the sounds from to the latest version before I extracted the sound files (if this matters). I tried activating all sounds prior to creating this thread, and all sound files seem to be replaced.
Why: I feel this guide is interesting for ”westerners” wanting to try the korean sounds, either to pretend to be as good as the koreans or if they just want some variation on the sounds they hear every time they play. BUT I also feel this can be interesting for koreans coming to foreign tournaments. Or, if you just want the sound files as samples for something (like a song or similiar) you can just download the one you need.
Step 0 – Close SC2: Just in case – don't have Starcraft II running when doing this.
(Optional) Step 0.5 - Backup: If you want to feel safe, you can always make a backup copy on the file we will modify in this guide: Starcraft II\Mods\Liberty.SC2Mod\enGB.SC2Assets (or enUS.SC2Assets if US client). If anything goes haywire, you can always just go back to the original file.
Step 1 – Download an MPQ Editor: Download an MPQ Editor. I personally used this one: http://www.brothersoft.com/games/starcraft-2-ladik-s-mpq-editor.html.
Step 2 - Get the sounds: Download and extract the korean sounds. I uploaded them to Megaupload and Mediafire. I have included the English ”Nuclear Launch detected!” alerts for each race in the korean package, if you would like to keep those (see Step 4) in English. I also included the korean version of the nuclear warning, so you can learn to recognize the warning when it is played in-game.
KR sounds: [url blocked] or http://www.mediafire.com/?6bv0nvlcr17rtar .
I also uploaded the english sounds if you want to revert back to that: EN sounds: [url blocked] . or http://www.mediafire.com/?da35bq5aac1y751 .
Step 3 - Replace the sound files: When you have both the MPQ Editor and the sound pack you want to change into, open the MPQ Editor. Press CTRL+O or ”File”->”Open MPQ(s)...” and go into your Starcraft II folder, by default it should be C:\Program Files (x86)\Starcraft II\.
When you are in your Starcaft II folder with the MPQ Editor, go into Mods\Liberty.SC2Mod\ and open the file enGB.SC2Assets if it's an EU client, or enUS.SC2Assets if it's an US client. Now you should see two folders named ”Assets” and ”LocalizedData” and some other weird files that we don't care about.
Now open the ”KR sounds” folder, drag and drop the folder there called ”LocalizedData” anywhere into the MPQ Editor. When asked if you want to replace the files, choose ”Yes all”.
(Optional) Step 4 - Revert to english nuke warnings: If you prefer to still have the english Nuke sounds, that is fully fixable, without losing all the korean sounds. In the KR sounds.zip I included a folder named ”EN nuke warnings”. We do just as we did in Step 3, except this time we use the files in the folder ”EN nuke warnings”. Hopefully you still have the MPQ Editor with the enGB/US.SC2Assets up, if not open it again. Drag and drop the ”LocalizedData” folder in ”EN nuke warnings” and click ”Yes all” when asked to replace the files.
Aaaand it's done! You should now have korean sounds in your english client. I have no idea how you fix korean text for everything though! Hope this helps someone at least! Thanks!
Finally as a tip - a link to a guide on how to get custom backgrounds for SC2: http://elusive-teliko.blogspot.com/2011/04/customise-background-images.html

theres already threads about this, but its a well put together guide. thanks
Thx for the guide And thx A LOT for the sound upload ^^
does this work for changing the TW sound to KR sounds?
korean banshee's voice is pretty hot if u ask me
gotta say this was actually one of the better guides ive seen so far really really simple to follow
I remember there was a guide back in the beta/early release that I used to have KR sounds without downloading a MPQ editor, seems like a good little guide though. Maybe I'll use this later, miss my KR sounds... was used to them so much I even knew the nuclear launch detection... it sucked the first few times though, had no idea I was getting nuked.
any chance you can tell us how you did this? i want to switch my NA sounds to Spanish, but the Latin American client apparently is separate so people in the U.S. that speak Spanish would have to buy a LA account to be able to hear it in Spanish.

Yes, just download the KR sound file and rename it the same way. An MPQ editor isn't required.
Amazing.
Gonna try this this weekend.
Korean Zerg voice is so sexy.

To extract the sounds, you mean? Firstly, I downloaded the Korean client and installed it. Then I opened the Mods\Liberty.SC2Mod\KoKR.SC2Assets with the MPQ Editor, selected the "Sounds" folder in "LocalizedData" and extracted the files(CTRL+E), and then replaced them in the enGB as described in Step 3.
I guess you could download the spanish sounds ( [url blocked] - taken from the Voice Pack thread linked in first paragraph) and do the same drill with those sounds instead. I think it should work.

The reason I replaced the sounds the way I did, is since I think it's a bit unnecessary to download the whole 350MB .SC2Assets file when you can just replace the files that are 80MB. But my Internet is also very slow, so...

I did this exactly as you said to, and when trying it out I found that it removed the voices entirely. I have basic game sounds, but no voices. Any reason for this? Or any idea on how to fix it? I was switching from US to KR
EDIT: Never mind it works now.

Sweet, I love the Korean Raven voice. Adjutant is great too.

I remembered when I modified a file in Mass Effect 2 (to remove the big gun on the back) I had to make sure I didn't add any new lines of code or the whole game would refuse to load.

Would you have to revert back and change them again for every patch?

excellent, thanks
Edit: The Russian voicepack doesn't work for me, but i want it :< When i 'install' it there's just no unit sounds. The Korean one works fine, though.
Ummm.. I just followed these instructions to a T, and I got this message when I opened up my SC2:
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/pzLeV.png)
Now I'm pretty rusty with the Chinese characters, but the two ENGLISH words have me very concerned....
Did anyone else get this? Maybe they patched against changing sounds recently? Can someone advise? Thx.
is this safe? and think it violates blizzard rules. im not sure
Ok update:
Luckily I had a backup file... I went to replace the new KR files with my old TW files and for some reason the Korean sounds remained... But the good part is, that message went away... Kind of worried still, but atleast I can play now.
yeah i would like to know if this is a bannable offense, does anyone know anything about that?
On January 06 2012 05:37 CuHz wrote: does this work for changing the TW sound to KR sounds?
Why don't you just download the korean client and play on it with your taiwanese account? Except if you are learning taiwanese or anything it should be better^^
This is why i love TL.net! people finding out how to do this! <3
can someone please explain to me the step that involves opening the kr sounds folder and dragging the localized data to the mpq editor.. i cant do this for some reason please help. when i try to drag it, it doesnt let me please help!

Because you cant. While the servers are linked they are still separate servers.i.e. you can't log into the korean server with TW version.
For some reason, I get the message that there's "not enough space on the disk" for most of the sounds when I try to drag the Localized Data folder from the KR sounds folder over to the MPQ editor.
I tried this, but it doesn't let me drag and drop the sound files into the MPQ editor, help anyone?
Hey man this is awesome! Thanks a bunch! ^_^
Nice walkthrough! I'll still stick with my english sounds though.
thanks man, worked a charm

OMG OMG I'M SO GONNA TRY THIS.......Listening to korean sounds make me feel more GOSU hahaahaha
Edit: Just did this and it was AWESOME!!!!! Feeling so GOSU right now!!!! THANKS!!!!
I have a question.
Can you customize what sounds you wish to implement?
I would like to implement the Korean unit sounds but not the notifications like "Need more Supply Depots" that way I'm not missing anything important. Can this be done?
-Thanks!
Cant drop the file into the MPQ
Nice post! I changed it and there are no problems! Korean Zerg voices are so evil :b
Now, just need KR interface ahaha.
This thread is awesome thanks a bunch. Now I can make my TW account have KR sounds!!! And thats awesome you included English nuclear launch detected good thinking.
The non-English thor, does it have an accent like Arnie (Arnold Schwarzenegger)?
and i think the medivac sounds like the dropship pilot from Aliens.
wow nice guide thanks
nice guide. thanks.
for troubleshooting:
cant drag into box? solution: drag directly from zip window (do not drag from zipfile to desktop, and then from desktop to mpq)
no sound effects at all after replacing file? solution: close off the MPQ first, then load up sc2.)
hope i saved some people some trouble.
A nice and concise guide, thanks a lot!
Has anyone ever been banned for this? I want korean sounds so badly but I don't dare.
how can you change back to ENG?
On February 12 2012 15:10 roLangela wrote: how can you change back to ENG?
Just like how you put in the korean language in, but except you need the english SC2Assets instead of the korean one. If you didn't back it up, the OP has a backup english file that you can use.

Forgot to thank you for an awesome tutorial just got korean sounds the day before yesterday and i have been enjoying it so much, great guide!
so can anybody confirm that you don't get banned for that?
^ I did it and I haven't been banned, but really only time will tell if blizz will get cranky about this...
Has anyone else had a problem where the main voice doesn't talk? I thought all of the voices weren't working in the beggining because I wasn't getting anything telling me that I didn't have enough minerals, but when my first zealot popped it was awesomely korean. Also, thanks for the guide, it was really well done!

Its an easter egg. The medivac's voice is exactly the voice of the pilot in Aliens.
The protoss sounds so ridiculously good in Korean... the zealot single-handedly makes me want to switch to toss ._.
I switched to korean audio ages ago, no reaction from Blizzard, I'm sure they are fine with it.
Sorry to bump but I'm trying to find another thread/method of getting the korean sounds. The method was very simple, changing a variable in the variables.txt and then repairing the sc2 install to download the korean sounds.
I've raped the search function on TL but I can't seem to find it
Does anyone else have an issue where the selected quotes don't work? Anything you recommend?
Does anyone know if this still works?
Due to the latest update. Will there be a way to get it back?

No. Patch 1.5 ruined it.
ugh, I hate the chinese voices, really disappointing that you can't even change sound files now =/
damn I actually like the German and Russian ones. The Russian ones especially are quite fitting for Terran ;D
I tried this after the new patch and it gives me a message saying that there is no enough space on my desk.
After trying it again, the file becomes a (read only) and doesnt work o_o
My sc2 is fine but i guess ill redownload and try again
EDIT: nvm i cant read i guess it ruined it lol
can anyone confirm that this DOES NOT work after 1.5?
Bumping to confirm this is busted, I did this and now I can't play anything because the game can't "stream data" to the servers. Plus, I think it reinstalled the sounds when I booted it up. I hate this launcher.

ii tells me that i have not got enough disc space and i can not do it even tho i have got 850gb space left can you help?

Guys I have a major issue.... T.T I dragged KRsound - Localizeddata into the MPQ as you mentioned, then I pressed "Yes All". It seemed to work. But it stopped working after 5 seconds. It tells me: 'Fail to add file "whatever file" to the MPQ. There is not enough space on the disk.' How can I solve this? Any solutions?? Btw, i read something about the changing Hash table size regarding to this problem, but i really don't know how to get it to work, I was reading lots and long articles about it, but I am obviously very cluless.
Idk if anyone is still here but I cannot drop my LocalizedData file because I can't get my file out of Read Only format. I am stupid can someone help me. I looked everywhere.
They added an option in game to choose what sounds/text you would like to have for your client. It is fully supported by Blizzard and is literally in the game options. There's no reason to do this method anymore, unless I'm misunderstanding your post and you already do that.

Why you bump such an old thread?
Go to options - Language - Get korean sounds and text.
Also want to remind you, that other localizations are cool too
