Uh... with this format change, groups are drawn at random based of on GSL rankings seperating you into tiers, there's no point of having the players there. The point of the format change is to make the Ro32 more balanced in terms of skill level in each group.

....Obviously, but it is still classified "as a draw" with people drawing out of a hat/bag whatever. It states GSL November winner and runner up are the only ones who will be drawing and the rest is done by GOM.
So my question was, this is not going to be shown then?
EDIT:
3. The Champion and the Runner-up have the privilege to choose an opponent from Tier 4.
Yet they also state;
Code S Ro.32 Group Nomination (will not be broadcasted)
Which i find rather dissapointing, RANDOM or not, watching draws is fun.

Damnit, full group nominations were so fun to watch. GOM is trying too hard to try and get the "best" players through and have no group of deaths, but it's not even necessary right now. Code S is high caliber and all the groups will be good. Seriously, how is random draw better than group nominations for evening out the groups? In fact it's probably worse if you're trying to avoid that effect.

What will happen though if sC doesn't recover sufficiently from his surgery?? Will it be the same as for the CoCa incident and the Rain incident??

Sen has arguably the best results of any foreigner, placing consistently high at almost every big event and Idra has a good deal of GSL points + MLG results. Afaik you have to earn your Code S spot by qualifying through the tough Code B and Code A qualifiers. The real reason I assume they invited them is because the want more foreign viewers. So its not about merit its all about popularity, I hate that

sC is out of hospital and has been home for a few days. Been laddering some too already =p
He couldn't make the Code S introduction filming afaik but it sounds like he intends to play.

Not a fan of tiers being determined by GSL rank points. This was the same trap that MLG fell in last year (and now abolished).

Well CoCa had the "matchfix"/"cheating" incident in the Korean weekly, and Rain just decided he would leave... so i don't think its the same case... im sure GOM understands that if you have a collapsed lung you can't play well

Isn't this very unbalanced? You have all the top finishers in one tier. You have all the bottom in GSL ranking points in 1 tier.
Theoretically, each tier should be stronger than the one after it.

It seems like a good decision, as it should prevent MC from picking the strongest group and droping into Code B. At least in the Ro32.
Lol- dont diss the obama toss! i like the system thuogh

Next GSL will be interesting to see who comes up big and, and who falls down the league

As far as I remember, the new GSL system has a non-random drawing for the ro16 groups (players get to pick opponents) and I'm assuming that gets broadcasted live.
Overall, I like the system.

There are some arguable players but overall (if you squint your eyes ) it looks fairly balanced to me.

I like watching draws in general, even though there isn't players there or anything. I watch the Champions League draw every year, as well as other ones that come up (FA Cup comes to mind.) Even though the players arn't there to comment, it would still be cool to see.
Imagine the hype in the LRs!!!!

This tournament/draw format is almost identical to the UEFA Champions League/Euro's FIFA World Cup/etc and is designed to reward the better teams by giving them a slight advantage in group stages by removing the possibility of a top 8 team meeting another top 8 team first round. Transferring this to GSL it should stop there being a one-sided final, with 4 of the top 8 one side of the draw, and the other 4 in the opposite half of the draw as opposed to the entire top 8 on one side which can lead to a poor finals.
Of course there are always upsets which can prevent the "best" player from progressing and we could still get a one-sided quarters/semis/final, but at least that player would likely have earned that spot more by beating 2 or 3 of the top8, rather than 5 of the lower 32.
Tennis is similar (albeit without the group stage (discounting WTF, but whatever)) with the seeds dotted around so the top 32 would only meet each other in ro32, and top2 in final - provided there are no upsets which there always will be in all sports.

I'm not sure if GOM was trying to stop groups of death from happening, but if they were this random drawing based system won't necessarily stop taht from happening. The tier thing only works if all players from tier 1 > all players from tier 2 > all players from tier 3 > players from tier 4. As it stands now we could get an MVP-Nestea-Bomber-fOrGG group. Not that I really care though as I personally like groups of death, especially now that they're Bo3's. It adds so much more tension and angst when a guy you know could make it to the Ro8 or better gets knocked out in the first round.
I do wish this was being broadcasted. They don't need to go to the studio or bring the players or any of that. Even just a webcam of Mr. Chae pulling numbers out of a hat will suffice. I'm a sucker for this sort of thing and finding out who is going to be put in which group is way more exciting than just reading the list off a forum post.

This is a false comparison. In MLG points determined who were in the top 32 as well as the order. In GSL, points does not determine who is in the top 32, only the order of 9-32. Ultimately this merely tries to assure that the average skill accross the various groups is more even, thus trying to minimize the "group of death" phenomenon in early rounds.
Put simply, they want to avoid a situation like MVP, NESTEA, MMA, and ForGG all being in the same group first round. They would rather the *star* players continue deeper into the tournament and get more games. At the same time, unlike the MLG format, there is no garuntee that they will make it deep into the tournament; this must be accomplished by their own skill.

great news! I sent an e-mail to gomTV 8 weeeks ago explaining that the seeds needed a tweak because of the bad draws, no stars in the final and so on. All in all I take some credit to this change.

Only reason it is flawed is since there is no decline in points based on preformance. GSL rewards you for being around for a long time, but if you do terrible for a long time(San and anypro for instance) and suddenly come back they are still in the top 16 of rankings.
