If it's Tier 1 vs Tier 4 and Tier 3 vs Tier 2 will we only see Leenock vs ForGG (Fin) and SuperNova vs MC and the winners of that advance to the round of 16? or am I misunderstanding this. I would imagine it would then be winner vs winner and loser vs loser so someone advances, and someone else is knocked out - then winner of the losers match vs loser of winners match for who takes the 2nd spot in group. This is the same the last 2 (I think?) seasons group stages.

Will it stay this way? Why not base tiering on last season's results? The current GSL system creates a situation were player tounament starting positions are very dynamic. It's very volatile. A "previous results" tiering which immediately rewards the short term results seems more in tune with this than a long term and relatively more static "total GSL points" system.

I agree, the previous GSL system made it easier for lesser skilled players in code S to stay in code S.

Maybe right after MLG orlando, but now he's been putting up poor performances and dropped to Code A so he certainly isn't the best Protoss.

Well since a fairly sizable amount of pro's over in korea consider him best protoss in world then if he doesnt deserve code S than what protoss does? brown and parting are both ridiculously good, and have claimed new code s spots this season, very deservedly. Puzzle, genius, and oz are also incredible. Inca shouldn't be in code s. And JYP, well, I don't think he should be in code s while terran is still there, but I don't think he's not deserving of code s as such. Huk is a great protoss, but he deserved to drop to code a, if only because of his jetsetting lifestyle of tournaments all over the world every week. You just can't stay in tip top form if you do that.

You just can't stay in tip top form if you do that. Brown and Parting are kinda new to the scene. I love to watch them play, but if we call a player 'best protoss in the world' because of a good month, we'll have a new best protoss every month. Puzzle, Genius and Oz are waay too inconsistent and JYP - well, you said it, PvT is part of the game as well. The reason HuK is seen as the best protoss in the world is the fact that he's very consistent in his performances. Sure, he has his ups and downs, but usually he can compete with the best and he's been doing that for like a year now. I'm not even a big fan of HuK, but noone comes even close to him in terms of consistency. Other players have impressed me a lot more in some of their games, but then they have games where they look like bronze scrubs. That never happens with HuK.
