Please note that, I, James Banks, the editor in chief at Up Close Gamers was very ill for the entire trip to Korea and decided to push through and make content and the best of the trip for the website, so please excuse my voice. Much love for the support as always
Also I, James Banks, opted to experience and sleep in the pro house, it is extremely comfortable, tidy and a great experience, nothing bad about it in anyway, I actually preferred this to a hotel
We have just got back from our time in the StarTale house, the last few days were incredibly busy and one day we managed to pull a 36hour shift. We will be releasing a lot more content from the trip next week, bit by bit, to make sure it is does in the right way.
Please show some support for all the Up Close Gamers staff, it is just not just me behind the camera, we have a few behinds the scene guys helping promote, give ideas and such as well as taking all the advice from the TL community who know the most about the Starcraft II scene, so props to you guys as well.
On with the tour!
Well the last tour done by Artosis was great but since then the team has expanded into a true pro gaming house and it looks so good, one of the top pro gaming houses around.
We have a few more recaps coming over the next few days and we hope you enjoy them! Also don't forget to check out all the StarTale players streaming, we helped set up Bomber, July, Ace, Squirtle, Virus and soon Fruitdealer will be streaming![i]

I seem to recall him being reported by TL staff playing LoL before his Grand Finals game in IEM NY (or one of the playoff matches).
I see you go to the other floor by an elevator, and that room wasn't closed, is that the elevator that goes to all the floors or is it only for the startale part of the building?
I know Korea is a safe country but this suprises me :o.

it seems that he switches to LoL though. Im pretty surprise that ST also has a LoL division. They look wealthier than lots of other teams lol.

But TSL and Slayers are more well funded i think. TSL used to be the most well funded team, not sure about now, Slayers got Boxer and they are a huge fan favourite, besides they're getting sponsors from some big name as well.

Startale are as financially strong as SlayerS, if not stronger.
Could anyoneone tell me what upclosegamers actually are? I mean when did they start to get sponsored to fly over to korea and stay there? Also, what qualifies them as staying in a team house, where there is not infinite space?

EG Lair?
True, the EG lair is several times nicer, but you have to remember that EG is NA's top SC2 team with tons of sponsors, and that in Korea, SC2 is still not that big of a deal yet. Plus, Korean real estate is so mad expensive, I'm pretty sure the cost of those two floors would equal about 6 of EG's lairs, assuming EG's lair costs around $800K
Cool house, but I must say, those bedrooms look like they belong to pre-teen girls. Not to mention the crappy beds and sleeping about 4 feet from at least two other guys at all times. I'll pass.
So that's what happened to oGsLittleBoy/oGskkoma. I remember cheering for him :D Cool tour, looks like a great house. Can you buy Zowie stuff anywhere in Korea?

the house looks really good, I also learned someone new today, didnt know startale had a LOL team, are they turning into something like the western esports groups like EG,Complexity etc that sponsor players for many different games? or is it just sc2 and LOL.
Sweet house, I liked the boards to discuss strategies and stuff with the whole room.
Apart from that it seems like a nice place - its not about being the most comfortable place in the world, its about being as comfortable enough to create champions <3
I would hate to live in so cramped a space with so many other people. I need control over a quiet environment in order to focus on the things I need to do, which you'll never really get in Korea.

you could always buy a nice pair of soundproof headsets you'd never head much with those on and gamesound on
a good point i heard from a korean pro (can't remember which) was that seeing all of his teamates practicing around him helped motivate him to keep practicing instead of stopping for the day. i think that's a huge benefit and surely worth the somewhat cramped spaces.
Thanks for sharing! didn't even know startale had a LoL division! :o The team house looks nice, i.e. better than most team houses, but still not incredibly nice conditions to live in permanently. I have a deep respect for players who are willing put up with that just to play the game they love.

it's in the middle of the night, maybe they prefer some privacy rather than some weak moon light.

He was really popular because he was so happy when he won and back then Artosis was doing interviews with the winners and he was so happy that Artosis commented about how just looking at him made Artosis happy.

ROLF, Good times. I used to enjoy gsl so much. Still enjoying it but nothing likes the first few season when everyone are new, everything was so fresh and exciting.
Thats one sick house! Holy shit!! However, how awesome it might sound to be a pro-gamer, i'm not sure if i would be able to live in bunk beds (after being used to sleeping in a kingsize bed...)

Rough translation of practice schedule that appears at 4:20 of the video (note this is in the LoL room but same probably applies to SC2). Corrections welcome ofc.
Daily timetable 10:00 Practice room opens
11:00-12:00 Breakfast
12:00-15:30 Practice till you die!!
15:30-16:30 Lunch
16:30-05:00 - As above, practice till you die!!! - Eat dinner when hungry! - Practice like goddamn crazzzy (will we die if we do this for a few days?!)

My favorite was the interview where he smoked like 15 packs of cigarettes in a few days preparing for his first GSL match.
Glad to see he picked up a game and is staying competitive!

For what it is, I'm sure it serves them. But it doesn't look that nice to me, aside from the view outside. Looks way too small for the amount of guys they have there. Like 5 guys crammed into each of those tiny rooms, with only three bathrooms. Even the SC2 practice room was really cramped. Someone mentioned the lack of windows too, I agree. I think I would literally be claustrophobic in there.

Relatively confident that the EG lair was not 800k. Pretty sure Arizona had quite the housing slump. Anyhow im my area (Suburban michigan) that home would not go for 800k.

yeah seriously. in the west, having so many people packed into a single sleeping room is like considered an appalling level of poverty. I hope team MvP's living condition has improved since they've gotten now sponsors from their partnership with complexity.

You know, every time someone writes one of those "I want to be a progamer" blogs, this video should just be auto-posted as a reply. It occurs to me that everyone sees the fame and the glamor; maybe they should be shown 11 guys sleeping in one approximately 20'x20' room. Good lord.
Wow that house is soo swag. I suppose they can afford such a house with massive sponsors like BenQ and Zowie. Also find it cute there is also like a mini red bull fridge even though bomber is the only one sponsored by them haha
Nice! StarTale upgrading. Looks good, very BW pro-team-esque with practice facilities and living quarters being separate. I wonder how StarTale is affording this though, didn't realize their sponsor-base was that strong? Maybe part of the Quantic deal?

Nah, zowie, benq and the other sponsors pump in a lot of money in startale. I mean benq flew July and bomber over to Sweden just to promote their new monitor.
