I know there are a couple of brands like SteelSeries and Razer that seem to be really popular amongst players. I'd like to know if you guys have any opinion about these stuff.

If you're planning to invest in casting equipment, I'd suggest buying headphones with a separate mic for clearer sound. With headsets you kinda of get a half-ass of both mic/headphones. I don't know much about good quality mics, but I'm pretty satisfied with my Audio Technica ATH m50's. But then again, if you just want to try out casting for a while, you might be better off with just a headset.

Actually I do record my guitar and vocals, but I find that whole set up to be really clunky when it comes to recording commentary. The whole gotta set up my FireStudio, get good mic placement on my M Audio Nova etc etc kind of feels like being in the studio again except that all I want to do is talk about Starcraft lol.

Whatever you do though don't buy a razer headset. I have used them all at a local lan center and they all sound horrible and are not especially comfortable either.

Not true at all. Check out the Turtle Beach PX21/DPX21 setup and you'll learn very differently. They have the sound quality in both gaming and music playback of $200 earbuds/headphones, with AMAZING bass response (dare you to compare the DPX21's to beats and bose price to performance and chose them over the DPX21's). Also, the mic on them has some really high grade technology in it, and will make it sound like you're in the room next to the person you're talking to on their end. The mic also has some pretty kick ass noise cancelation tech in it too I've learned, which can help alot when you have annoying pets or people in the background while you're trying to talk. So if you want a budged headphone/mic that'll work really well, then the straight up PX21's will still beat any price for quality matches you'll find on both items combined with ease, as even the PX21's alone rival things like monster beats and $150 bose headphones, without their DSS addition. You also won't find a headset or headphone with the same bass response btw for under $200 that don't completely sac their mids/highs/clarity to gain that same bass response. ...I've tried almost everything out there under $400 btw, lol. I wouldn't boast these things like this if they wern't worth it. :> On November 26 2011 23:18 Bosu wrote: Whatever you do though don't buy a razer headset. Razer makes the WORST sounding headsets/headphones you'll ever find for their price range. They sound like they're made for the sole purpose of spewing garbage into your ear lobes. :< *edit* The PX21's/DPX21's also configure nice and easily with FMLE/VAC and/or XSplit btw

From what I understand; headphones are most commonly used by casters, however, if you plan to do casting in your room, a Blue Snowball Mic could work for you. Otherwise, you need headphones that isolate the sound around your ears, if you plan to cast in large public areas. I have experience with Blue mics - I know Day[9] uses it in his casts but I am a little hesitant to use a condenser mic because of the amount of noise they pick up from everything. My M-Audio Nova picks up bird chirping, people talking from the ground floor (I stay on the 10th floor) and it generally becomes a pain in the ass to isolate my voice from the surrounding noise. I do some audio recording (both for money and leisure) and usually the issue with most recordings I have is ambient noise. It's hard to get a good take without having random chair noise, feet noise, air conditioning noise, foot steps etc etc. The reason why I asked for a head set mic in the first place is that most head set mics are uni directional and they only pick up sound generally from only one direction (the player's mouth). Sure, you'll sacrifice a little on audio quality here and there, but at least one problem with the ambient noise is solved. I don't know - maybe I need more input from people who have used these headsets....

go headset, forever lazy : ( i don't really believe in having multiple headphones of the same sort of build, especially when it comes to headsets you might want something closed and flat, or you might want something that is open-air and has good noise-cancelling for the mic. it is up to your own preference IMO, and you have so many choices. many players are not necessarily audio-freaks and just want something that won't strain them over hours of wearing and moving around; i can imagine they also want something that is very comparable to the ones typically used at a LAN or major event. so basically, the comfort and overall feel are also a more common issue.. casting in a crowded environment, and casting at home---two cases which are both fairly different.

It's due to the design of the headset and changing the EQs won't fix it. The only fix is to take off the ear cups and drill some holes into the headset and put the ear cups back on. Then its a pretty good headset. But doing the fix will cause a void in your warrenty. How do I know? I'm using one

http://north-america.beyerdynamic.com/shop/hah/headphones-and-headsets/gaming/mmx-300.html Literally the best 'headset' type thing that I've seen for a reasonable price. The mic quality is excellent and the cans are great for the price.

Costed me something like $90 overall off Amazon for headphones and mic and it sounds great for games and decent for music too. It will always be better to go for good headphones+mic but most people just want the easy solution that is combined into one (and way more expensive).I use headphones that are good for music, since they are pretty good for games anyway. I've never bought in to Gaming headphones... so I use an AudioTechnica ATH-A700 with a Zalman Clip-On Mic if I need to talk over vent/mumble/skype. It's great ![]()
