I'm glad it was taken seriously, I hope foreign teams would react the same way to something like this.

I dont think the coca and byun one is that serious either, they were just really stupid to do in chat... I dont mind what Coca did (with them being friends and coca already being in code S) but you cant reveal it to a public forum/broadcast like that. Oh, so it's ok if you don't get caught? What a rotten attitude to have.

In this case, I think it is fair that the intention of the players was not to let Byun through to the next round. Seems like just two friends wanting to play another game. (Perhaps Coca thought Byun made a silly mistake that game and wanted a fair fight? Wouldn't that be analogous to players forfeiting games in MLG?)

Forcing CoCa out of the teamhouse, out of code-s and out of any opportunity to participate in a tournament is a complete overreaction to something that is simply juvenile behavior. I think it's temporary. I don't think this is going to last for THAT long. More like a public display from Slayers.

Somebody brought up the comparison to Stephano, and it really makes me angry. Stephano and Brat_Ok pulled the same shit at Assembly, then Stephano backs out of a contract he signed with Complexity. Nothing happened to him. Anyway, I just cannot find a coherent way to express my thoughts through all this: So much disappointment, sadness at the fall of a shooting star, the reappearance of the spector of match-fixing...*sigh All this says is that the western world is far more blasé when it comes to deceit and underhanded behavior. Remember that EG's poaching of puma was a big deal over there. Koreans simply value honor and integrity more than western cultures.

Whether or not the BW scandal happened is irrelevant in objectively evaluating Byun and Coca's actions. What they did was cheating, in this case undeniable collusion. Coca at 160+ supply leaves the game when Byun at 45 supple asks him to. The players are being punished harshly, with the ability to win any prize money denied to them and in Coca's case also requiring him to temporarily (hopefully so Idra can practice ZvP with him) leave the slayers team house. Byun and Coca are young and made some terrible decisions. Hopefully they can grow stronger and humbler in the future as they realize how it feels when you unable to live the progamer dream. Glad to see Boxer and Prime team set a reasonable, rational means of punishment. Reputations take a lifetime to build and cultivate, and but a moment to tarnish and destroy. Saw the Mr. Chae post, weird to see them focus so heavily on the swearing/foul language aspect. Perhaps he is just context heavy when he writes but almost nothing addressing the collusion. I personally feel this has been pretty thoroughly dealt with internally by team management and hope that no further repercussions will be laid down. Taking away someone's earning potential is pretty huge. Code S is like $1100 USD a month. edit #1 On November 15 2011 14:00 raviy wrote: All this says is that the western world is far more blasé when it comes to deceit and underhanded behavior. Remember that EG's poaching of puma was a big deal over there. Koreans simply value honor and integrity more than western cultures. you do know that Rekrul investigated this issue for TL after EG's acquistion of Puma during NASL S1 Finals. Pretty much Mr. Lee lied pretty hard to reporters concerning the situation so as to make it very hard on Puma during his transition to a new team. All those negative rumours from Mr. Lee about EG and Puma's behaviour was baseless lies, I think Mr. Lee was hurt as he felt his team helped Puma 's growth as a player but TSL would not receive the benefits of their investment. Seems pretty deceitful and underhanded to me. I will not comment on Western v Eastern culture because I truthfully do not have a high culture/social awareness concerning Korea. Also the Stephano BratOK was slightly different as their games were them trying to throw the game away with idiot builds, they intentionally tried to lose. There was no communication between players as to deciding the outcome of the game (however it was obvious to viewers that both players attempting to use retarded builds with no transitions in the rather stable ZvT macro match-up. Coca left a WON game against Byun.

All he can do now is go home, apologize profusely for this, and then come back in a few months for the Code A qualifiers. he didnt match fix, They are entirely blowing this out of proportion... It wasn't done for gambling and the players didnt even think it was a big deal at all.. I dont think they even took the tourney that seriously, at least coca didnt as he had nothing to win, personally when i saw it i was like.. ok cool i get to see another game, if this had been a tournament like MLG or GSL it should be treated this serious

Coca was one of my favorite zergs. His ZvP was amazing, ZvT and ZvZ good. He is very promising and could be one of the next generation's top player... I am disappointed and i hope he comes back better than ever. I also have to say that i am happy that this was clamped down on. I always want to be assured that we are watching people trying their best to win and not make it exciting artificially. This is a big step in the promotion of E sports and i hope that it will never occur again.

Action should definitely be taken - losing the Code S spot is reasonable punishment. For Byun some kind of ban (about 3 months?) should be appropriate.
