So unfortunate. I think this situation is completely blown out of proportions, but these are the steps they must take to legitimize SC2 further as an E-sport in Korea. I just wished they realized what they said, I love those two players .

Seems excessive, I'm thinking there's possibly some in-house stuff we don't know about..
I wonder what'll happen to Byun now.

This makes you wonder how many players have thrown games for team members in live tournaments. Guess there's no way to know unless they say something that explicitly gives them away in chat.

Now this brings up 2 interesting scenarios.
A) Guy admits he threw a game for some teammate in a tournament but the teammate doesn't know.
B) Guy admits he threw a game away to obtain better seeding in a tournament.

Should the guys who threw the games from scenario A or B be subject to discipline?

I feel like half the BW scene did B for WCG for easier brackets during the group stages. >__>

rofl, why would CoCa forfeit his Code S spot ... this is just dumb... that is a dream for every SC2 player, but matchfixing is just dumb ... :/

If he didn't, Boxer would have probably kicked him off Slayers entirely and no team would come five inches toward a player who match-fixed, got kicked off Boxer's team and destroyed his name like that. All he can do now is go home, apologize profusely for this, and then come back in a few months for the Code A qualifiers.

This was in the North American qualifiers for ESWC. EGDeMusliM realized he couldn't make it to the tournament so he forfeited his games vs EGIdrA, which allowed IdrA to qualify. This sent DeMusliM to the loser's bracket where he also forfeited his games vs EGAxslav, also allowing Axslav to qualify.

yeah, pretty much the exact same situation as this here. So harsh by slayers

But did Demuslim publicly type that out in the chat? Or is this an inference? Cuz if there's a difference.

Guys its not even that harsh of a punishment.

Both guys will probably have to apologize, sit out for a few tournaments and the go back.

After thinking about it, I don´t think its that bad. Yeah it was 2 kids making a stupid decision , which unfortunately they will have to deal with the consequences. They are not being kicked out of their teams(Closest is Coca who is only going to be in the B team until the whole thing blows over) nor banned permanently from tourneys.

koreans struggled a lot to bring legitimacy to e sports in Korea, and they take it seriously. Even something as small as this can tarnish the spirit of competition from the game.

Still, I feel it sucks because I like both players, and I think that an apology and grounded time(as at least let Coca finish his Code S run. maybe make them sit out next GSL and tournaments) but well, the respective teams have already decided. And IMO this is good for the scene, we can´t let (stupid decisions or not) tarnish the competitive spirit of e sports

EG one happened was because demuslim couldnt attend ESWC and was later clarified by the commentators so it ended up being no big deal.

I dont think the coca and byun one is that serious either, they were just really stupid to do in chat... I dont mind what Coca did (with them being friends and coca already being in code S) but you cant reveal it to a public forum/broadcast like that.

CoCa already has Code S, so if he wants to throw games to not win some Code A then I don't see the difference.

Though I suppose it's because he actually stated it out loud. Perhaps he should have said nothing and lost on purpose instead.

edit: I realize what I say may be partially irrational, but just take it that I'm upset with how Byun and CoCa are being treated.

Match fixing has to be stamped out and any intimation of it needs to be taken straight on. if matches don't have integrity the games might as well not be played.

That's nuts imo if that's the only thing he's being punished for. There aren't Code A spots being handed out through ESL so his punishment was for dropping one game in an online tourny to a friend, sucks :\
