Dude, I'm all for interesting and creative new units; that is what I've been waiting for all this time. These units seem to be GIMMICKY as hell.

And when did the Protoss ever use their Psionic abilities to levitate shit and choke people? That is totally Darth Vader and Jedi shit. Am I wrong?


The fact that they didn't doesn't mean that they couldn't. If you give someone telekinesis on the scale of being able to create lightning out of nothing, choking someone should be no real problem, unless they have counter-telekinesis. It's like saying that Palpatine throwing lightning is wrong because no Jedi or Sith ever did that in the two movies before he did.

Furthermore, most of SC1's storytelling was done with talking heads. It's hard to get things like that to work when your only mode of storytelling is with a couple of heads bouncing dialog off of one another.

Ha! First thing I'm gonna do is build me a Replicant, change it into a Drone/SCV and go 2v1 against my opponent

Man that'll be so much fun! And in team games, try to get BOTH the SCV and Drone from either your opponent or your ally.

I just hope this game some what resembles WoL and especially BW and SCI. I just think they should focus on solid game play for that "wow" factor; rather than making bullshit snazzy units to make the game interesting. AS you can see I'm not very optimistic.

^This is exactly what I'm thinking.

My sentiments exactly. Everything seems just really gimmicky with units being designed based solely on "flash" "cool" factor (to attract the casuals), rather than designing things from a balance perspective and completely disregarding the actual validity of the unit. The gigantic thor and go-kart hellion (a variation of which is found in basically every C&C game) were already pushing the limit, but this HotS thing has just gone way to far. Way, way, wayto far.

Blizzard thought process for this expansion has basically been:
1. Think of random, gimmicky, flash shit
2. Hope that you implemented so much of said shit that it mixes well together
3. If broken, buff and or nerf a few times
4. ??????
5. Profit
6. Make another expansion pack

Shit. Yesterday I wasnt too sure about those Protoss replicants. If they cant replicate massive, I thought what they are for... But now when I slept a little... Imagine copying SCV. Building a Command Centre. Upgrade to orbital. Make mules. Chrono + mules? P Economy+++ ^^

Flying balls for protoss, cmon
Battle Hellion seems like a terrible idea aswell, we don't need transformers.
Viper looks nice and the abilities on the nexus aswell.

I am really super against replicant. Protoss is Protoss, if we need other units to win, it clearly means we are insufficient. Tanks can definitely help us stop 111, but come on, we can just have reavers and it can do the same thing. I won't mind if replicant can transform into different protoss units, from phoenix to immortal maybe. Changing to Terran/Zerg units is just wrong. The whole protoss cannot be balance around replicant like how protoss is balance around sentry now.

I completely agree. It looks so silly. Was Starcraft 1 > Brood War as gimmicky and crazy as this? It's almost like they made a completely new game and added a bunch of things that make not a lot of sense balance wise, or even they tried to address balance issues too head on. They said they're trying to fix balance by making as little changes as possible...what the hell is this then?

I for one would like to see HotS boycotted and people just play WoL (not seriously, but the beta better fix a whole lot of things wrong with it).

doubt replicant will make it in the way it is now.. so ridiculously useless and stupid. Why would I ever want to play terran as protoss?

the oracle and tempest are decent, though.

Viking is atleast air and ground. I don't like the fact that they might start combining different styles into 1 unit that you can just change into whatever is needed.

That's what they said about the changeling... Really you would notice a neutral creep wandering in your base more so than a random marine or zealot since creeps never wander in bases.

They took two protoss abillities (blink and charge) and gave it to zerg...without removing blink or charge, rather than reduce ultra's size/buff speed, etc.......yeah.........

You would notice it if you were looking, but they don't appear on the minimap, so if you were looking somewhere else, you wouldn't.

Also it finally dawned on me that changelings are gone now that overseers are out. That makes me a little sad.

Interesting changes. As a Zerg I'm particularly pumped about the perspective of being actually able to break a siege line. An entrenched Protoss or Terran is very difficult to break without brood lords. Looks like hydras may become viable as well, with viper support to snipe collossi.

What they've done to the ultra is incredibly clever. A good player would kite ultras for days even with a speed buff. This allows them to penetrate the balls of death which just demolish ultras.
