Just woke up, watched the preview and hysterical laughter just struck me, I wonder how will they now balance game if these units really are implemented in the multiplayer aswell, good luck blizzard. Time will tell.

To be fair, with the fact Terran has to get vikings against protoss, they would never work against Terran. Same goes for the mother ship. Heck, even Zerg have to get corrupters to deal with collosi and that means they have AtA anti air too. The only way to fix it would remove collosus being hit by air, but then they'd be unstoppable.

I actually like the look of the new terran units. The combat hellion looks about as cool as it could have. The warhound looks a little awkward in the picture in the OP, but not it the action shot. I though it looked pretty bad ass killing those stalkers. The shredder will be technical to play, but I think it's interesting. I'm sure I'll grow to hate it a little, probably a good sign...

The viper...wow, this unit... I think it will take some balancing, but it could be fair and an awesome weapon. I think my major problem with it is that it looks really..... I guess I would say slapstick, when it goes off. Maybe if it would only force massive units to walk(or fly if it was a flying massive) at regular(or slightly hasted) speed towards it it would still be potent, but not silly looking or completely crippling to expensive units.

Swarm host will just be awesome.

I think having the ability to forcefield minerals is a terrible design -- such a gimmick. Seems like something the forcefield from the sentry should be able to do.

It's not a gimmick and the forcefields can be killed.

Are you not happy it's another unit that can hurass, but if you get hit by it you don't lose all your workers?

This game has way too many disablers in general. Force fields, fungal, PDD, neural parasite, now the viper's two things, I could go on...

Normally it's considered better design for games to enable the player rather than disable the opponent, because the latter leaves them feeling as though they had no way to compete at all. It's bad game psychology; makes the game feel imbalanced regardless of how balanced it actually is.

It's in the way they balance the game too. More damage nerfs and defense buffs than anything, more abilities removed than responses improved.

The videos make my laugh. "Dark Swarm" plus banglings looks kind of ridiculous, but what made me laugh was when the guy said "and you can micro against that by running your marines out from under the cloud". He just sounded so unsure about that.

I also hated when Dustin Browder said that the transformer hellion was made to counter zealot arcon compositions. I don't know I just feel like they're going in the wrong direction with that.

But, what I'm really trying to get across is that StarCraft is the best fucking game ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I think it should be held to that kind of standard. People shouldn't just go along with what ever they pull out of their asses just because it's StarCraft and its awesome. I've been playing StarCraft for around 10 years now and I hope to play for another 10 years or forever. But it just seems like they moving away from the things that made StarCraft so awesome to begin with. This was said over and over again when WoL launched the problem now is that its getting worse.

Case and point:

Their method for fixing the problems that the Protoss are facing is utterly retarded. I'm too tired to rant on about how ridiculous these units are and their even more ridiculous explanations for why they are needed.

It's just so narrow and has only one implication in the game which is to deny harvesting. Imagine if hellions could only shoot workers?

i think its more lame to watch the new oracal forcefields than sentrys being droped out of a warp prysim. when you see the new mineral forcefield thing, all you are seeing is a guy holding a button and clicking on mineral patches. seeing someone load and unload a sentry out of a warp prysim and forcefiedling mineral patchs is much more entertaining. when people realise that forcefielding mineral patches is actually really good, people will probably do it (i do it ^^). the only problem preventin forcefield harass right now is the difficulty and the fact that forcefields dont last as long as the new mineral only forcefield. once the skill level rises, i imagen seeing a full energy sentry and a HT in a warprisim and forcefielding then storming all the workers will be more common in the pro scene

So is anyone as a spectator realy excited for these new units? I don't get any kind of chills when I look at mineral intombing, or shredders killing everything. Sure they might be fun to play but I'm not getting a hellion/baneling esque excitement in any of the new units.

My sentiments exactly. Everything seems just really gimmicky with units being designed based solely on "flash" "cool" factor (to attract the casuals), rather than designing things from a balance perspective and completely disregarding the actual validity of the unit. The gigantic thor and go-kart hellion (a variation of which is found in basically every C&C game) were already pushing the limit, but this HotS thing has just gone way to far. Way, way, wayto far.

Blizzard thought process for this expansion has basically been:
1. Think of random, gimmicky, flash shit
2. Hope that you implemented so much of said shit that it mixes well together
3. If broken, buff and or nerf a few times
4. ??????
5. Profit
6. Make another expansion pack


i agree, these new units don't feel like units in a classic RTS game. and i don't like the idea of a hero thor. but i hope they at least redesign the thor model to make it look cooler though, cuz i'm a terran player, lawl. also, they took out carrier and mothership, and added three units, so technically toss only gains one unit. hmm, but if they are useful , that's what really matters. also the new abilities on nexus should be very good.

I agree 100%. I feel blizzard is going the wrong way with their flashy and cool new units. Sure, it might attract tons of casuals and generate revenue, but it does not help the pro scene at all. With so many new spellcasters the pro players will need to spend significant amounts of time trying to figure the new game out. Hope I'm wrong and blizzard has all these figured out.

I'm excited as a spectator. A lot of these new units encourage more micro which is only a good thing.
