We are currently talking about this issue in the mod forum. We take this issue very seriously, and want to find the best way to serve those who want faster results, and those that don't wish to be spoiled.

i think its silly to visit a sc2 forum and expect not to get spoiled by the latest news and results.

if you dont wanna get spoiled, then watch the games first and then come visit forums. i dont see the problem

I think that people who visit the forums should expect to be spoiled. It can limit alot of the discussion that could take place and Teamliquid is the premier source of news for foreigners.

And I don't see the problem with adding [spoiler] to the title.

Glad we can agree that there is no problem and let TL continue with a winning formula.

This shit needs to go in the commandments. Stop complaining about spoilers.

I watch hockey. If I miss a game that I taped, I avoid news sources that are related to hockey. For the love of god, extend us the same basic logic that if you don't want to be spoiled, YOU should do something about it (IE not going on a site dedicated to the coverage of said fucking game).

There are a couple of tricks to notice when a person has not thought through a point. For example, when one says "clearly", it's generally not clear at all, and one can use that "clearly" as a marker where one should dig deeper.

Another example is exemplified here, if a person swears for emphasis, that person probably hasn't given the topic enough thought to come up with a real reason or an argument to support his case.

The point you are emphasizing with swearing and capital letters does not hold up in the face of the counterargument that TL is also a source of VODS themselves and of countless other things that cannot always be avoided just because there's a match you're waiting to see.

Kinda is in the commandments already. #2, fourth bullet down:

  • Don't be an attention whore and give away the results of games, sporting events, movie endings, etc. in the title of the thread/post. Also, if you're going to reveal stuff in the body of your post, then be decent enough to use the + Show Spoiler +
    spoiler code.

I am so goddamned tired of the whole "OMG SPOILAARR!!!" thing. Imo, if you didn't watch the tournament in time its your own fault; watch it first before come browsing and REALLY how painful is it to know results in advance?..

I always want to come to TL and find some very nice written review by some of the the TL writers (which are very good imo). But it is a VERY rare thing to happen, mostly because of this stuff.

I love this kind of thread (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=295091) but they are rare, and sometimes it takes so long for people to make one that I eventually give up and never read it when it does come out.

I think it takes A LOT of excitement from the Esport, and I really think there should be huge pictures splattered across the front page the moment something significant like a champion happens.

This has already been discussed a lot in this thread and it has already been confirmed by TL staff that it has nothing to do with the spoiler fear.

That is not the problem. The problem is that the news section is crippled by the spoiler fear. They simply can't update news immediately because of people complaining about "spoilers". The subtitle on top of every page says "Starcraft Progaming News", but it's not exactly news when it's week old.

Wait, where's the evidence for this? Has any newswriter complained that they cannot put up news? Or has a news item not been posted because they cannot start a news item with the title "Winner of X league has been decided!".

Just because you don't see the problem with adding spoiler to the title, doesn't mean there isn't one, and thus it shouldn't be dismissed. The spoiler mania is here because a few TL devs like it that way, and rationalize reasons that fulfill their views. They will say TL isn't a news website. What is it then? A previews website? Talking about the future is ok, but the past isn't because some spoiled kids and young adults want to believe the illusion that somehow by not seeing them the results are yet to be defined even after the game is over a long time ago?

I wonder how many sports someone has to go to bbc.co.ukipedia to see results of football, f1, tennis or whatever it may be. It's just stupid. TL is just lucky they have the monopoly of SC2 website attention right now, because a better job could be achieved. British airways has the monopoly as the british main air transporter, but virgin has proved they had much room for improvement. Same for TL, and i seriuosly hope the virgin equivalent of SC2 would come out, make a much better SC2 website community than this and force TL to rethink their views. It's only when competition gets fierce that some companies finally decide to make some changes, until then they generally stay on top of their high horse enjoying the views and the rage from below as costumers cry for improvements.

This website looks more like a nerdy version of other sport's websites. And from my point of view and all the talk about widening the range of e-sports, TL is not doing bad, because it keeps mostly us that already like computer games, but will keep many more newcomers out, that will find spoilers everywhere, wiki sites for results, and a deficient news page, as an unconvenient and unorthodox way of a website to talk about their sport of choosing.

This is to say, i like TL as a whole, but i would seriously would like they would rethink how they view themselves and the spoiler mania they enforce.

I like the TL community but i agree. When e-sports get bigger, and there are much more competition for sites like this, the current layout/format of this website is not opitimised and will lose out eventually.

People should expect to see the latest results all over this site and shouldn't complain about spoilers. I don't even really care to comment on this kinda thing too often but I noticed the spoiler fear on this site is ridiculous.

I dont have time to watch all the games. I would be happy if a big sign saying "___insert player here__" won this and that kept me up to date.

No need for a sign, here's a page one click from any page on teamliquid.net. It's on the bottom right under the Liquipedia box. If you want info on smaller tournaments, you can go here. Here's an image if you still cant find the links: [image loading]

TL Staff does not delay their articles because of spoiler fear. This has been brought up and addressed multiple times in the thread. >_<;

Because I'm feeling generous, here's the few staff opinions I've seen on this specific issue:

zatic: [1]
TL's articles are posted a few days after events because they take time to write. You'll see TL has a very different style of front page articles and aims for longer and in depth recap pieces than instant news.

Bottom line there has never been the case that an article was completely done and not posted because it would spoil results.

Jibba: [1] [2] [3]
Expecting a big banner and immediate coverage and recap is simply not how TL news operates. Final stories come out days later because they are much higher quality, and TL doesn't have paid journalists to write an instant recap or get interviews.
The delay in coverage has nothing to do with the spoiler policy.
