He means the amount of area that the scan covers, which is pretty big compared to the actual radar spinning animation that shows up on the ground when you use it.

Yes we have Banelings but they die after being used and in many cases like this weekends MLG weve seen groups of Marines be replaced much quicker than banelings but i really hope at the least it is a siege unit for zerg So true. The simple act of putting the Hydra back at T1 and than this new unit morphing from there, maybe even replacing the baneling, is rather appealing to me. It fixes a very obvious hole right now for Zerg in giving us standard and useful anti-air as well as a nicer unit to deal with in those early pressure/push situations where the zergling just doesn't quite pack the punch you are looking for. To top it off...would make Hydras far more common than what we are use to seeing (and thank god for that alone, they are the Face of the Race!). If it means the replacement of the Roach? GOOD! Please do get rid of that god awful unit. Its dull and unimaginative, there's no real micro or specialty beyond A-move to the whole unit. It's a beefy damage mitigation, that is not what Zerg is about. I feel like I got the crappy Zerg copy of a Marauder. And all because blizzard wanted to make a prettier game.

Aye, earlier a friend and I were commenting on an MLG game watched yesterday. A TvZ on Shattered Temple, though I can't remember which. I know the Terran spawned right side, the Zerg north. T moves up to the natural, scans just north of the hatch, and can see creep tumors that are south of the main choke. Crazy big detection range. There are a number of nerfs that could, and might be made to Terran, but I think reducing the scan's sweep footprint would be subtle, but powerful. Not unlike the Immortal's range upgrade, which has affected more than most think.

Taking away banelings would be a major mistake. Banelings are probably the most crowd pleasing and amazing unit to come to sc2. With two more expansions expect some units to have similar roles. (im terran, but just love blings) To be honest I agree, I just think bringing down the hydra into T1 and giving them this new T2 unit morph (based on what Zerg really needs and speculation of this new unit), banelings might see a backseat position. I think they are awesome and really add nicely to the play style but right now they are our only option, and a very unreliable one at that. To things such as mass Zealot or large marine balls they just have too much room to NOT be useful, and when that happens....Zergs in big trouble. Just look at IdrA vs MKP tonight. IdrA shouldve had that game won, but banelings just don't hold their own unless you perfectly control a fight which has way too many variables, or make a ton of them. Anyone would hate it when they just spend the money of a Roach and got the use of a combat Drone out of it. (: All in all, banelings hold a special place with the race, but Zerg needs a better call to marines and providing splash damage/space control.

"bought into the whole overlapping roles thing." that's what blizzard meant with saying that, if lurkers were in they would overlap with banelings and no one would use them.
