I don't like this bit
"The techniques used by Complexity to recruit Stephano were quite disorienting to influence our young player towards a bad decision."
Now unless Complexity got him drunk or slipped him some roofie and then signed the contract with his hand when he was unconscious then this seems like an accusation that Complexity have misled Stephano. If you're going to make an accusation like that you really need some details to back your claim up.

Why are some people blaming CoL? They didnt drug him or trick him. He signed, and apparently was happy with signing. Now he breaks a contract he just signed, no ones fault but his.

Do we want this to be a real, pro sport or not? ye lets ban the best foreign player lol good thinking lol, thats your argument? "what the hell, he is the best foreigner (lol, he isnt btw^^), he is allowed to do what ever he wants... who cares about contracts anyways?" dude, sorry, but thats retarded^^ he beated mma and puzzle in the ipl3 qualifier pretty gut edit: anyways he is streaming now Wait that's seriously your argument.

Sounds like Millennium is butt-hurt that they lost their supposedly best player and guilt tripped him into trying to break his contract and come back. I don't know who this player is but I know I won't be supporting him in the future because of this. If you sign a contract, abide by it.

Not only is this apparently illegal (since he supposedly signed on with Complexity already), but why the heck would he want to stay with Millenium? Complexity is totally kicking ass right now...
Shit just got real. i really think americans go over the top when its about american players and teams your not world top elite in sc2 just third behind korea and europe ^^ but jaeh stupid move from stephano, perhaps cause his english is as bad as it is ? when he was in germany i nearly never saw him speak only frensh with tod etc so missunderstandings ? but if he sign ...
I really think Europeans bash on Americans in SC2 too much needlessly.
He means Complexity is kicking ass in terms of recent performances and their connection with a major proteam in Korea, both of which Millenium doesn't have.

Thats pretty weird, I must say.

Following these developments with great interest. Legally speaking I don't think if Complexity retains his contract that he can play anywhere not under them until this is sorted...or else comlpexity could legally sue him for any penny he earns playing for mellinium. They wouldn't do either if they have any sense left in them. It certainly wouldn't help their image and popularity to hold a talented 18-year old player against his will, let alone sue him. If he doesn't want to play for them, he doesn't want to play and that's that. No that's not that. If he doesn't want to play for them he shouldn't have signed a contract to begin with. I'm 100% on coLs side on this one. If you ever want e-sport taken seriously, shit like this can't be allowed. There's no freaking point of having contracts to begin with if we allow things like this to happen. meRz says it pretty well, if you want this game to taking seriously as a professional, organizations and players need to respect contracts. It sets a terrible precedent to let this slide.
I'm much more worried about the kind of arrangements where, in case of Complexity, it's now 2 players backed away just a few days after signing the contract.
I'm more than willing to give up this whole "professionalism of e-sports" than accept dealings that are obviously shady and dishonest for one reason or the other, in one way or another.
Obviously if it turns that Stephano changed his mind out of the blue or to get more money, I won't be on his side anymore and I'll sympathize with Complexity.
However, given what I've seen in SC2 so far, and a natural inclination to trust people rather than companies, I'm defaulting to being extremely suspicious about the team initiating the transfer until it's proven otherwise.

I wouldn't believe either side until this goes through the courts. Hopefully someone compromises before it reaches that point, though.
And honestly, if Stephano doesn't want to be on Col for whatever reason, then I don't think Col should take him... he wouldn't exactly be doing his best in that situation, would he?
They could probably get some money out of this, if he did indeed not get tricked into signing a contract though, so I don't see this dropping anytime soon unless one team decides to be the bigger man ;_;

Pretty messed up situation here. What is Complexity supposed to do now..... they can't just ignore people breaking contracts, but you really can't just "force" Stephano to honor the contract, because who wants a player who is unhappy and does not want to play for his team.

I guess OP is worth updating, response from Jason Lake:
On September 20 2011 03:00 jlake02 wrote: For Mr. Page to insinuate we improperly "disoriented" a young player is an outright lie. We have spent weeks negotiating with Stephano and countering offers made by Millennium. This was no quick pressure situation.
We will take a step back and analyze the situation but I hope Millennium honors the rule of contract law and does not disrespect it in eSports. Doing so would set a precedent that would undermine all we are collectively trying to accomplish.
We will evaluate our options but I do not see a way we can allow this blatant disrespect for the contractual process to go unanswered. We will be contacting legal counsel in France and investigating courses of action.

Just because Col are pissed off doesn't mean they're slimy. They're angry because a valuable player has left despite being in contract. Let's not jump on a bandwagon yet, we need to see what Col's French legal division say first.

Just wait till next week when we get the massive EGPolt thread and then rumors coming out that the Prime coach is unhappy that Polt was talking to them before he left.
Then we can blame them.

There was a negotiation phase where both sides got to present offers and counteroffers. How did Complexity disorient or confuse him?
It's one thing for Millennium to sign an already-contracted player, its completely another to do that and insult the organization as well. Completely unnecessary escalation.

uh destiny's one wasn't a case of bad contract. It has been repeatedly stated that Destiny feels that he doesn't want to be really tied down and having to behave professionally because he represents sponsors. So he asked to be out of the contract and coL graciously let him go.

Probably broke to contract to get more money. Why else would he change his mind so suddenly?
