That was an awsome read! Its stuff like this that makes Starcraft such a cool hobby. It satisfies both my need for video games, and statistics :p

Edit: Calculated my SQ for the last 20 1v1s. : 59.75 Since I'm in gold league I'l take that as a compliment

Mid-masters here. Calculated my SQ over my last 20 ladder games. Found a score of 73. I'd say that's pretty damn accurate.

Woah awesome post! I did not expect such high quality based off of the thread title haha. It must have been a tremendous amount of work to collect the data, so thanks for putting it all together, it was a good read

i cant believe that tbh

i would be dead after working so much for 1 thread

You haven't been in bronze then lol. Started out there and watching replays that definitely happened alot cause I would turtle, max out, then push. We'd both have over 10k minerals by the 25 minute mark unspent, although I would usually triple or even quadruple number of workers built (once I build 110 workers as zerg, and the other dude just built 20).

LOL, I love how the workers constructed chart just goes to show how easily zergs workers get blown away compared to the other races. XD

I guess I will need to keep a notebook or keep an excel file open to record these stats as I play each game until SC2gears or some other tool implements this. Really revolutionary. This seems so obvious yet no one bother to really delve into it.

Fantastic work. Down with APM, long live SQ!

APM will be obsolete by the end of the year.

APM and SQ aren't quite the same though and measure different things and imply different things (with some overlap).

Nice study! Honestly, I was expecting to be a wither difference between diamond and masters players. The difference is considerable, but it it isn't as steep as I thought it was going to be.

Great post, but you did not account for if a player maxes out quickly and then wins without losing significant portions of it, which would cause average unspent resources to skyrocket, and you also did not account for workers lost - losing workers is a big reason why players in higher leagues would need to make more.

Yup, I don't think your first point was accounted for, but the second point was (probably a bit subtle).

"Note that while this is a measure of the number of workers constructed by the end of a game (rather than an actual measure of workers at any stage of a game) it shows the expected profile for worker production across a game."

Those players that made 160 workers are probably those who had to remake from losing a crapton of workers.

I read that part, but he did not have a way of knowing the highest workers at any point, so I don't get where he got the "expected profile" from.

It would be nice if sc2gears was picking up on the SQ-quotient so everybody can conveniently track his development.

Overall the most beautiful thing about it is that you dont even need to parse a replay to get the most practical information. Ingenuity beats data overkill.

As some people have said, it seems hard to automate this from the replay file (the replay file doesn't seem to save that information). However, sc2ranks probably can get this done pretty easily, as it gathers its info from the match history.

Lol, Idra has a really low score.

I am pretty sure our macro is average (for a gm eu player).
I guess I should take a large sample instead of one game.

This is actually true. As soon as more peoples scores get submitted, I guess the myth of Idra being a macro monster will be dismissed.

That was just one game, i can simply get a game where my opponent left right away and give me 150 SQ.

I took a sample of 12 games, the last games I played in tournaments (in advanced rounds). I have 86.5 average. So idra's result is absolutely not impressing.
Weirdly enough, the game with the lowest score 79.1, was a very short game in which I did a 4 gate + prism against a 1-1-1. I macroed very well in that game. It seems your formula isn't well adapted for short games.

Yea i took my latest 7 games and i got a score of 89.522. And even got a game with 97.997 SQ score O.o (this was a 15min game). My macro isnt THAT good, i often have quite a few minerals stacked up after battles and such, but these numbers seem really high compared to the different leagues. I'm certainly nowhere near the macro of IdrA so i dont really understand...

It's statistics... You need a large sample to get anything of actual value out of it.

The longer the game goes, the lower the SQ I feel

Just looked up a 12 minutes game from ret and his SQ was 122 ;o

It means your spending is good for short games and that the beginning of the game is relatively easy. Could factor game length into it? You could dump each SQ figure into certain time frames to compare. I doubt you could pull 89 in a 25-30 minute game. I think anyone could pull high spending efficiency in a cheese game. (I guess that explains why a lot of low skill players do it hahahaha)

Of course there could be anomalies like noob bronze players 1 basing the entire 30 minute length.

You can use this: http://beijers.eu/share/sq.html
Or, if you really want to know: ln is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_logarithm
